    Brilliant video, explains everything you need to know very clearly. I used to have a PGO GY6 150 with all of those problems that i fixed identical in this video, loved tinkering on it and it went extremely well. i have now purchased a PGO roughhouse 2T 50 to tinker with which the stator upgrade and the DC headlight mod you showed will be my first point of call. Thank you for the video.

    All my bulbs were blown when I bought a used moped. The voltage regulator was producing 17-19 volts. Check the voltage at the bulb connector. Moped will still run, but without lights or turn signals . . .

  • @williamhaskellhaskell3162

    You can check voltage inputs and out put to the ignition coil at the c.d.I.! Not too difficult

    I never ever would have thought that 12v ac would be running to the head light thats insane,

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  Před rokem +1

      I think they do it to save money. AC is just fine for an incandescent bulb, and that means less power has to go through the voltage regulator. Less power through the regulator means you can make the regulator cheaper.

    Would it be better to add a rectifier to convert AC to DC with something that can better handle the load? I'm in a similar situation and I'm looking at the best available option to me. This method seems fine, but also too good to be true?

    Charging: A clear mistake. Your battery charger work between the white and green. Yellow is for your headlight. Green is not connected to the case of the 1/2 wave regulator. Only it's ground lead. You can even run the regulator backwards with white to ground and yellow not connected.

    Hi, first of all, thank you very much for the very clear video. Unfortunately I have a different type of stator so my value will differ. How do I find out the spec (value) of a 31120-LEJ2-E10 stator so that I can measure it?

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  Před 3 měsíci

      It's unlikely you'll find specs for that. The values should be similar to my stator. What you're looking for are open circuits, shorts to ground, or big differences between the windings with the yellow wires.

    Can a flywheel be bad also? Cause I'm having voltaged jumping up and down super fast . Can't even read the numbers .. what can it be .? I changed stator , regulator/rectifier. And spark plug .. scooter starts but voltage is jumping all over the place

    Great video. I'm having a problem on my sym vs 125 2010. The stator outputs 100v @4000 rpm and the engine start to misfire at this rotation.
    It's a problem with this stator or this is normal?
    If I disconnect the three yellow wires from stator to rectifier, the engine works fine on all rpm.

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  Před 11 měsíci

      That does seem a little high, but I don't think it's possible for the stator to create too high of a voltage. Maybe try swapping the voltage regulator / rectifier.

    I just bought a vitacci spark 2021 150 for cheap that didn't run I noticed the wire coming off the stator doesn't have the red and black wire to power cdi box this bike is suppose to work with a ac cdi box now this is the issue bike has no spark at spark plug I can't find the 2pin connector that goes to cdi box to power on cdi I have the 4 pin but the other 2 pin wire is no where to be found also I mention there is no black and red wire coming out of stator for cdi am I missing something here the wire colors that's come from stator are 2 yellow wires that plug into a white harness and there's a solid green wire and and a blue wire with white stripe where is the black and red wire for cdi power or did someone put wrong stator in scooter

    Hello, when I connect my multimeter to the scooter wires that go to the rectifier if only gets to 2 volts at idle, does that mean that the stator is bad?

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, it seems like the stator is dead. Try checking the yellow / white wires with the rectifier unplugged too.

    • @Sloby-ie6zr
      @Sloby-ie6zr Před 11 měsíci

      @@LabCoatPaul yeah, it was dead, changed it now it works perfect the light's and charging system, but for some reason now it has a knocking sound from the flywheel, is it normal for the crankshaft to have a little play when you pull the flywheel?

    Hello I have a question I recently had a cooling fan to break into pieces on my moped and I purchased a new fan and I put the fan on but after I raod the moped I could hear something rattling around and it sounded like it was coming from inside the stator housing and I'm thinking that pieces of that fan may have gotten into that stater housing and yesterday I tried to start my moped and it will not start now it will crank over but it's like it's not firing and I checked the spark plug to see if I was getting a spark and is not getting a spark now and I'm thinking that the pieces of the fan messed up the stator coil have you ever heard of this happening?

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  Před 10 měsíci +1

      It sounds like you had a cooling fan bolt hit your pickup coil. That's the little box outside the stator that tells the spark plug when to fire. Remove the fan cover and inspect for damage.

    50cc scooter headlight high and shorts exploded.
    In the check I made, there is a short circuit in the blue wire going to the headlight socket. The connector is charging. I am getting AC current. Where is the fault? On the alternator?

    • @LabCoatPaul
      @LabCoatPaul  Před 10 měsíci

      Most scooters with an A/C CDI will send AC to the headlight. You should get A/C power on the high and low beam wires. If you're getting power, it's probably not a short circuit.
      You can re-wire the headlight to use DC power from the voltage regulator, but be careful - these charging systems barely work, and you might not have enough power for a headlight. From my experience, you can use 1 amp for the headlight, or about 13 watts. Check out these videos:

      Hello again. Thank you for your attention. You were right. The blue wire is not a short circuit. I'm going to buy a new 12V regulator. My guess is the 12 V in the yellow wire feeding the headlight and coming out of the regulator (conjector) is unstable. Thanks again...@@LabCoatPaul
