Just a badass little moment from evil Yasha 😈
A bit of a change in the art style for this one. Hope you guys like it!

I appreciate the imagery so much, my nerd brain is so happy to see high Dex based AC visualized as mobility. But the idea that Yasha knows Beau is bouncy and counters it, which is how to pierce that AC. Beautiful

Also given the monk's adding of wisdom to their AC, it's perfect that when Beau is distracted and looks at the sword Yasha takes that as a moment to lunge forward
all due respect, how else would you visualize a dodge tank?
@@austinculley2871 people have a tendency to blame attackers when it comes to how an Attack misses. The vocabulary of "the sword misses you" doesn't inspire imagery of someone moving out of the way, But the attacker going wide.
And as someone above said, Dex+Wis is dodging out of an Attack in reactive patterns, "ducking under the first blow, you then jump back just enough the strike goes wide." Barbarian Dex+Con dodging for me is moving into an Attack so the hit doesn't fully lad. "You throw your shoulder against their forearm, causing the hit to stop short."
@@SCarr8813 or for barbarian, "the blade seems to sink into your skin, but your body is as hardy as steel and the attack did not pierce it.
Can we just appreciate how terrifying Yasha was in this? Like holy fuck.

Having the DM control your character, one can realise just how dangerous one's character can be. In another game (not DnD) a friend of mine played as a spellcaster, but he didnt fully know how to use stuff most of the time. At one point, his character was mindcontrolled and proceded to almost completely wreck me and the others in one turn. Made him realise how powerfull he actually is.
Once the “comedy character” turned against the party in my Numenera game. He was basically a battle bard-both support and a heavy hitter. The only thing that kept him from killing them all was the party illusionist.

I really love the whole idea that Yasha could probably take on the entire party if it wasn't for the two Clerics. It evokes this idea of Yasha really holding herself back when she's in her right mind because she doesn't want to be a monster.

This comment is criminally underrated. This is an amazing idea to think about, especially since it is obviously true. Take the moment that is this scenes clear opposite: Yasha vs The Champion Kal. She held back to the point of even refusing to fight back. After several rounds it became abundantly clear to Kal that this woman would destroy her if she let out her full rage, but she didn't, choosing instead to try to feel the pain she caused. It's incredibly sad how she has had to deal with so much suffering at her hand, even though she wasn't in control. So when she in control, she chooses mercy whenever possible.
This is why Yasha is my favorite character in the story right now.
@@jacobgrover2179 This is even proven by the way the other players react to Yasha's presence when she's their enemy. Even the players know that Yasha would wipe the floor with every single one of them, especially one on one. A monster who wishes to not be a monster; she avoids the fight, because she knows she would win.
@@uhltide3 I need to rewatch that episode. I've been listening via podcast, I'll pay close attention to how everyone reacts, because this seems to be very interesting.
@@jacobgrover2179 Watch carefully when Yasha gets really close to killing Beau and Jester. It's very apparent that everyone knew Yasha wouldn't even trip over them in a fight. Their only salvation was having TWO clerics that can heal and crowd control.

Legitimately flinched when she struck down and I could hear Matt’s voice say “it provokes imagery you’ve seen before with Mollymauk” and just shuddered
As a note Ashley said on Talks that had that been the killing blow to Beau and Caduceus was still able to free her like he did, Yasha probably would’ve tried to take her own life or at the very least leave the group forever if either Cad or Jester were able to bring Beau back shortly.
That all being said: bravo on this!

Oh gods... That exchange in Balenpost in "An Open Window" REALLY makes this scene even more heartbreaking, as if it wasn't already.
This is why Mind Control, "enchantment" in D&D, has the most potential for evil to my perspective. Necromancy has its own horror element that's pretty obvious and in your face, but there's little more awful to imagine than being helplessly unable to even struggle against what you are doing...
Was she unable to resist the spell? From my understanding, it's a modified Geas, but I may be incorrect.

Out of game it was so Ashley could take hiatus to work on a TV show again, but the in-game reason for it was this, and it was heartbreaking

Yeah, I feel like there's a degree where necromancy and underneath are things which should not be considered wholly evil without considering this kind of enchantment to be similar or worse.
I feel that the "Command" spell is the most innocuous, even if it's the most upfront being a momentary compulsion which is limited to non-lethal activities.
"Charm Person" is pretty insidious and would be borderline evil if it did more than simply make the person more amenable to you for the period of its effect.
It sadly gets worse from there with "Suggestion" being a heavy override which is all the more insidious than "Charm Person" and "Geas" making it worse by the Spellcaster being able to do anything short of obviously harmful activities.
When you get into the "Dominate" spells, I'd presume that it is altogether evil as you are outright taking control of another person against their will. Yes, Hold Monster is an 8th or 9th(?) Level Spell, and Hold Person is only 2nd Level, but all those do is paralyze. "Dominate" spells force the victim to act against their own will and wishes.
Most players wouldn't play that to that extent. All mind altering magic is practically worthless, because there is always way to avoid making things dramatic and tough for players. Spells like Crown of Thorns sound cool on paper, but in actual game it's the most worthless thing BBEG can do.

Beautifully animated, that scene brings me to the brink of tears just thinking about it and you have the nerves of steel to animate it. Absolutely love it but at the same time it's very heavy. The planning that went into the fighting must have been crazy! And the outcome is crazier!!! Absolutely brilliant stuff!!

“She rejects the Angel’s embrace. And my embrace. You know what you must do, Orphan Maker. You must expel she who rejects Her guidance.”
“No! No, I can’t!”
But Obann is insistent. “Break the chain. Sever her thread. Kill her now. Do it for the Angel. For me.”
“No, please, gods, NO!”
She tries to get her body to move, and it does move, but not of her own accord. She feels just as much as sees herself approaching a badly wounded Beauregard, the Laughing Hand stunned from her relentless assault, and as the monk turns around she is left stunned herself, but in a different way.
“Long time no see.”
Beauregard. Strong, smart, beautiful Beauregard. When last she saw her, she was clad in her garb from Rosohna and one of Captain Avantika’s coats, just as she is now. Only she is also now wearing a circlet that adorns her head and monk vestments similar to what she had before but more ornate, the clothes on top of numerous new scars indicating that something significant happened in her absence. Even in the midst of such a hellish battle, even when on the brink of collapse, she radiates an aura of confidence and strength. Perhaps the most beautiful thing she’d ever seen in so long.
Two months too long.
But the Orphan Maker doesn’t respond. Instead, her grip tightens around the Skingorger.
“No! Beau, please! RUN!”
But Beauregard doesn’t run, her gaze momentarily drawn to the deadly greatsword held by the Orphan Maker, who uses the moment to charge towards her, intent on cutting her down as she had done to so many other monks of her ilk, those foolish mortals in cobalt blue garb who kept secrets from Obann and the Angel.
She slashes forward, the monk barely dodging a cleave to the throat. She continues to leap and bounce but the Orphan Maker, already well aware of the monk’s skill in evasion, uses the momentum of one of her wide swings in a sudden remise that not only takes the monk off guard but delivers a clean, brutal hit to her midsection. The woman screams in pain and plummets to the floor of the cathedral, bleeding and only barely moving. The Orphan Maker advances.
“No! No! NO!”
But despite her pleas, the Orphan Maker raises the Skingorger and brings it down, straight through the chest of her quarry. The monk’s eyes begin to dim as they stare right back at her.
“No! BEAU! NO!”
The Orphan Maker just stares at the fallen woman, her own eyes wide and… tears? Are these the tears of the Orphan Maker? Or are they her own? And in that instant, she finds that she is unable to twist the Skingorger to finish her off.
“NO NO NO! I CAN’T! I WON’T! Oh gods, forgive me!”
The Orphan Maker continues to attempt to twist the blade, but to no avail. What an annoyance, to be held back by this foreign essence in her mind, and yet she continues to cry, undaunted in her purpose as she withdraws the Skingorger from the chest of the monk, a gout of crimson bubbling out from the wound. But her eyes fall elsewhere, to the half-orc who fell under attack by the Inevitable End. And as she advanced, intent on finishing him next and feeling the faintest of relief as her own life essence was extracted--
CRASH!!
All of a sudden, thunder and lightning crashes down from outside the Chantry as the Orphan Maker feels an agonizing sensation at the base of her neck, screaming in pain and sorrow. begging Obann and the Angel to save her from this pain…
...and then there is silence. Sudden, immediate… cathartic silence. She can no longer hear Obann, can no longer feel the compulsion to kill in the name of the Angel, can feel her body beginning to respond to her own will once more, just as she hears a very familiar breath from behind her.
Beau.
And just as quickly, Yasha feels and hears an intense flame from behind her and the sounds of the Laughing Hand weakening until he too is silenced, followed by the telltale signs of a body rising from the ground. She dares to turn around, and sees her. She sees Beau, her Beau, standing with a still-bleeding wound in her chest, her long hair (it’d grown so much) loosened from the ongoing battle, her newer vestments torn and sullied with her own blood and shards of stained glass sticking to her skin. Wounded, exhausted, but still standing. Breathing. *Alive*.
Not long after, as they pursue Obann, she sheepishly approaches Beau and reaches out to heal her, but can’t stop her hand from shaking. Beau grabs her hand and holds it firmly in place, as Yasha mends what little she can.
“It’s good to have you back. Like, back-back,” Beau tells her, a very weak smile on her face, yet it’s a smile full of life.

man I just saw this in the fanart section and hooooly fuck this is sooo goood! Like the moment in the campaign was already great, but this makes it even cooler. And evil!Yasha even more terryfing. Gah! All the angles are so good and I love how Yasha just calmly walks forward before she goes into full charge. And the tears at the end!!!! SO GOOOD!
