To be fair, in lore, Dark Samus becomes more rational and a bit "sleeker" and more Samus-like in appearance as she grows more powerful and evolves. The idea that she simultaneously becomes more humanlike in appearance and more eldritch in nature is a neat one
And with blank eyes, like SA X.
The fan version of Dark Samus is the reason why I love her
i find that recently people have been drawing her as some kind of slime girl, which is somehow more disturbing
10:41 yeah there’s actually a pretty reasonable explanation for this. In a developer interview with Retro that was held while players were beta testing the game, one of the questions asked was why Dark Samus was able to survive in Dark Aether. The answer was that, due to the alternate planet’s creation, the entire atmosphere of the planet is pure Phazon. This allowed Dark Samus to not only survive, but thrive in it.
That also explains why the air is so corrosive and toxic. It's Phazon in air form.

I see Dark Samus’s aggression against Samus as her remembering Samus killing her the first time in Impact Crater.
So in terms of cell biology clones are referred to as daughters, meaning that if Dark Samus is a Samus clone then I can just imagine a voice over that's like all totally a snarky teenager and junk, and could also offer a reason as to why Dark Samus refuses to actually kill Samus when she has the chance.

I like how in the Dark Samus fights, the environment you're fighting in gets damaged and destroyed during the battle.
Yeah that was a feature I forgot to mention, it really blew my mind when I was a kid
One way to think of why Dark Samus is weak to the Dark Beam. Dark Samus is a clone of Samus but she's also a Metroid, and the Dark Beam is Prime 2's equivalent of the Ice Beam since it's the opposite of the Light Beam which can burn enemies, and the Dark Beam's charge shot can freeze opponents. So, Dark Samus is weak to the Dark Beam because it's a cold based weapon and Dark Samus' Metroid-like weakness to cold temperatures.
Or many because the dark beam is made form the power of the dark world. Dark samus has no dark powers. Just phazon
The actual reason is because Dark Samus is technically a creature of the light, and despite the name, she has no relation to the Ing or the shadow dwellers of Dark Aether. Therefore, the Light Beam isn't nearly as powerful against her.

I really REALLY wish she was given a slightly different moveset in Ultimate. She's an echo fighter, so I get it, but she can have Samus' moves but remixed a bit. That would have been super cool. :) Also, my favorite encounter of Dark Samus was at the end of Prime 2. I was already on edge from the self destruct sequence, the fact that she wanted one last throwdown before the end was bone chilling.
Would have been cool if she would at least be floatier of slower but stronger than regular Samus so there is a bit of a difference. And yeah I think the final fight of Echoes is the most hype out of the series
I just hate the whole clone characters being renamed to echos. No offense to anyone but I just feel like it was so stupid to make dark Samus a clone of Samus when the prime games have clearly shown that dark Samus is nothing like Samus. In fact dark Samus, from what we see in the trilogy, has more potential for having a full unique moveset than Samus does in my opinion because of her attacks in those games.
AerikS I agree. I’ve thought about this since even before we knew she’d be in smash. I always hoped that the boost ball would get into her moveset somehow, but I guess Dark Samus would just steal Sonic’s thunder at that point.
No one will understand the terror 12 year old me went through opening that door and coming face to face with Metroid Prime for the first time. That giant, wide eyed face... Still haunts me as a 32 year old.
Pretty much everything scared me in the game; the Chozo ghosts, the darkness in the space pirate facility... Metroid Prime 1 and 2 are totally underrated and masterpieces in my opinion. I still listen to the OSTs to relive nostalgia.

Thanks, I try to use the skits as a way to poke fun at the silly game logic behind some metroid moments, so im happy to hear you enjoyed them. Also the art is made by the same dude who makes the chibis, Momo Kishi, extremely talented fellow (I animated and sketched them, he did the final art)
I love the entire metroid series, phaseon followes the possibility of how strange matter would act in many ways the most important of which is the ability to convert other materials into more of its self and being of extremely high energy and producing high amounts of radiation.
I always believed Dark Samus to be Metroid Prime, or what's left of it, using Samus' phazon suit to maintain it's essence
That is I was thinking of dark samus is like Metroid prime in human form or it combined the phazon suit and the phazon in prime is body to form dark samus

Ridley seems to have a tough time getting along with the other Metroid villains, especially since they tie to Samus becoming unintentionally stronger and a thorn in there side, Mother Brain allowed Samus to use the suit and weapons she has, and Dark Samus infected her with phazon which fueled her Phazon Enhancement Devise, what's worse is that Ridley himself can actually relate, because back when he invaded K2L, he only killed Samus's Parents, not Samus herself (despite wanting to), thus allowing her to survive and eventually grow up to become the galactic Bounty Hunter she is, so while the villains of Metroid would've wanted Samus dead for there own reasons, they already killed themselves. Though Ridley could be a minor exception because like most arch enemies he... lets say, "finds a way" (at least up untill Metroid fusion).
the only reasonable explanation i can think of for dark samus not finishing off the hunters when she clearly could've, is that she knew that they would end up being corrupted and do her bidding. which they did. except the one she probably wanted most to be corrupted, of course.

What I personally really like is that Prime 3 Dark Samus is the pioneer to the Other M Varia Suit, which I personally like a lot.
As someone who grew up on sa2(fittingly on the gamecube), the intro hit hard.

6:56 I think this is actually a chillingly beautiful moment. In what appears to be her final moments, Dark Samus reaches out to the real Samus with a sense of longing, as if she is wondering what it would be like to be HUMAN. And then she succumbs to her injuries. It is as if her entire quest for power was to fill the void of not knowing what it is like to be truly alive.
I think the reason the Dark Beam does more damage to Dark Samus, actually, is the same reason she’s immune to the Dark Aether atmosphere: it’s phazon. We’ve seen that Dark Samus & the Metroid Prime are both Vulnerable to Phazon Powered Hypermode, & the Dark Beam, a product of Phazon, likely also contains some measure of refined Phazon, allowing Dark Samus to be vulnerable to it.
Dark Samus is a character I fell in love with the moment I saw gameplay of her first boss fight at Comic Con 2004. At the time I thought the series really needed a parallel to Samus as an antagonist, one that isn't some big creature but some other hunter, and I'm glad it happened. I'm still pissed that Dark Samus doesn't have her ghostly laugh as a taunt in Smash Ultimate.
I find it interesting how in metroid prime 2 dark Samus overall has this organic look then she does in prime 3 where she mostly looks like having a shell with parts of a armor plates

My own theory is that Dark Samus simply wanted to redo the same thing she did at the end of Prime 1. Hell, if you notice, her suit in Prime 2 looks similar to the Phazon suit in Prime 1; and her suit in Prime 3 looks remarkably like a twisted version of the Light suit in Prime 2 - almost like she succeeded in planting a part of herself on the suit and was going to wait to steal it from Samus. Though, Samus was kind enough to just leave it behind, so...
One question; if Dark samus is malformed at 3:09 then why does the log book say that she was temporarily supercharged by phazon? Wouldn't she be more, if not a lot more, like her usual physique if she had more phazon?
It did. Remember that she was originally the Metroid Prime. That form looked more like Metroid Prime stuffed in a suit of armor than normal.

Btw the Dark Beam hurts Dark Samus as it also shoots cold projectiles, which as we all know are highly effective against metroids.
The Dark Beam doesn't freeze anything, it crystalises around them. The actual reason the Dark beam was so effective is because Dark Samus is a light creature (despite the name's implication), and thus, a weapon forged out of Dark Aether's energy is naturally more effective against her.
Imagine not having your most voice iconic clip make it into your Smash appearance at all.

I have a theory that Dark Samus might think she is the original in Prime 4, and will be doing things in the game that inadvertently help you progress, but will fight you if you encounter her.
The laugh is probably especially creepy because you assume that it's a being driven only on instinct with no emotion
We think there are two other possible explanations for Dark Samus after her final fight in Echoes.
1. She is trying in vain to steal the Light Suit, similar to how her original form stole the Phazon Suit in Prime 1, but due to lack of power, she can't.
2. She is showing a sign of envy over Samus. Throughout the game, she taunts you, this can be seen as Dark Samus no taking Samus seriously during their first encounter in Echoes. But after their final fight, she is confused. She is a copy of Samus made of the most powerful energy in the universe, and Samus still beat her. She gets close to Samus, wondering, "Why are you so powerful? And why am I not?".
A thing i see a lot of people overlook is dark samus' original name being metroid prime implying that dark samus is a metroid at her core, meaning the chozo could be involved in her creation

I always thought the metroid prime was just another experiment gone wrong by the space pirates and their attempts at weaponizing metroids and not just some random metroid that wandered in the impact crater and got corrupted.
I thought that she wouldn't take damage from Dark Ether because the Dark Ether is a product of Phazon corruption, therefore they are one in the same.
These videos are pretty interesting and it got me thinking. It would be really cool if you made a video about the Ing and Luminoth one day. The Ing are quite mysterious since their origin is up for debate. They might been created through a dark mutation of phazon inglets(Phaz-Ing). The Luminoth also have a lot of lore behind them and some very interesting technology.

Randomly found this while on a metroid binge and then hearing the Megaman Battle Network 4 music in the back 'mah man'.
I am gonna add my little grain of sand, to tell more about the lore, in phazee we can see that near the baby leviathan just before engaging the battle with dark samus, when looking closely to the surroundings you can see corpses of Metroid primes, which implies that every leviathan carried a Metroid prime (the metroid prime after the leviathan that crashed on tallon IV is an example) and I got a theory that the emperor ing in metroid prime 2 was a Metroid prime corrupted by dark aethers atmosphere that is why it had a spider form that reminded us of metroid prime showing a similar mechanic to the original metroid prime. In metroid prime 3, those metroid prime corpses may have been there because dark samus herself killed them, and started sending the leviathans without the primes just to infect the planets and expand her domain. I theorize she killed those metroid primes to make sure no one overcomes her power.
My theory for Metroid Prime as always been that the creature isn't in fact a Metroid, but a being unique to Phaaze for the Leviathans. Metroid in itself means 'warrior' in the Chozo language, and since the civilization on Tallon IV was some many years before the creation of the Metroids in SR-388 (since the Metroids on Tallon were brought by the pirates from Zebes on the Orpheon, and none of the Chozo Lore hints to the creatures living on the palnet) my theory is that once they discovered 'The Worm' the simply named it Metroid Prime, probably referring to it as the ultimate warrior or the prime warrior.
But its just a lame theory
