  • Scandinavian shrimp-flies have shown their worth over most of the globe, and the popular Pattegris (the Pig) has proberbly caught fish all over the world - but a new Danish coastal fly is gaining the same popularity. The skilled Danish coastal fisherman and fly tyer Troels Holstein Kaa has over several years developed a palmer-hacklet shrimp fly that should work well in all seasons - it should be easy to tie and able to withstand many hours of use without breaking. The combination with the classic shrimp colors tan/ginger and then the long vivid orange rubber legs and the fluorescent head has secured Høtyven a place in many coastal flyfishers boxes and for a good reason - it is extremely effective even for "tricky trout".

Great fly. I found that the rubber legs tended to go around the bend of the hook sometimes. Is there a way to tie this fly so that they don’t do that?

Hi Matti. It i sa great fly - and I agree that the rubber-legs can sometimes go around the bend. I use to put quite a big amount af dubbing at start to create a form of "spreader" for the rubberlegs to point out and away from tangling around the hook-bend. Hope it is useful 🙂
