Expat Auto have been known for quality for more than 10 years now. That's might be the reason that they are not the cheapest car dealer around. If I lived in CM, I would definitely check them out when looking to buy a car.
If I was looking for a resonable small car that's reliable, I would look to Toyota Vios, Honda City or Mazda 2. I had the previous generation Toyota Vios, and it's indestructible like a tank. It's not the most fancy or best equipped car around, but it has the best engine in it's class in my opinion.

I almost bought a 2012 Fortuner (diesel) with 200,000 km from a dealer. I spent 4 hours there and 3k baht for the "fees". It was 600k baht and I had 120k baht (20%) to put down. After all that time on a Saturday, they said the bank would get back to me in a few days. On the following Tuesday they said they would finance it if I paid 50% down, which I didn't have. Also, I had just gotten my non O retirement visa and they said to consider a 20% down loan I would have to live here for 5 years (I came in July of 2021 to Phuket Sandbox on tourist visa then converted to Education visa. I also inquired with Ford on a new Ranger as they said they would finance Farangs with 30% down, but that was in December of 2022 and now (March 2023) they have changed their mind and want 50% down for foreigners. They seem to change their minds everytime the wind changes directions. I ran into a similar problem with Phuket immigration--they said I needed to do a "border run" to come back and file for a new non-O. I honestly think they don't know what they're talking about half the time because that is not what it says on their website. I have decided to go to the Philippines for a month to see if I like it better there. I know it is something like $200 to stay for three years. Here I am paying 25,000 baht every year--not sustainable. I don't think Thailand really wants us here so I will spend my pension somewhere else. I do like Thailand otherwise but cannot think of it long term anymore.

If buying a car in Thailand and you aren't going to do your own repairs stick with the brands and models with a history for reliability and attaining high mileage. Toyota: Camry, Fortuner, any truck, corolla. Honda: civic, accord, crv. Mazda are also great but parts availability is much much lower.
Do not buy models that are also used as taxi's as a paint job and new dash are cheap.
If you can do your own work that opens up a plethora of BMW and older Mercedes options but if you can't do the work yourself stay away.
Facebook is a great source of used cars but you need to know how to do a proper used car inspection unless you get to know a local repair shop and can get the car there pre purchase(not an easy task depending where you are at).

If I get over there and stay, I would like a Ford Ranger 4x4 extra cab with the longest box possible to haul a motorcycle.
Sounds like in the land of smiles. I need to protect yourself from buying a used vehicle that’s for sure. The land of smiles turns into the land of stab you in the back! That’s very dishonest to sell someone a vehicle and have the engine blew up a week later. They knew there was a problem.
