She was chosen by Yamaha to be the advisor for their project. It took 20 years to built their first 5-octave marimba. First they built a 4-octave, then a low F, then an extension to low C; finally the full 5-octaves in 1984.
If it helps, a program for this date was published by Bluemallet Percussion Shop, one of the sponsors, at 鯨によせる詩 (Kujira ni yoseru uta, Song to Welcome the Whales) By Finnish double-bassist and composer Teppo Hauta-aho Csárdás By Italian composer Vittorio Monti, original score for solo violin, mandolin or piano チャルダッシュ (Kodai kara no tegami, A Letter from Ancient Times) By Keiko Abe Her list of works at mention Abe's composition as having 2000 premiere in the Netherlands, no publisher given. It seems to have had a number of performances, but no recording turned up. I find no other reference to the Hauta-aho piece, though the original title could well be in Finnish. I'm still putting my bet on the whales.
I think I heard that Keiko Abe was one of the people involved in the choice to make a 5 octave marimba.
Jasper Fox - FoxGamer39618 she was the person who suggested it

Excellent! Beautiful.
Such a great piece of music! crystal bowls sound like they are lit ... incredible, the delicacy of the performer when she caresses/touches them.
Can you tell me the name of the piece? Is it composed by Abe?
