    Hey guys, so I recently uploaded an Air Warfare Group Community Post where I showed my new 1TB DCS SSD and a couple of you took me up on the offer to do a video on this. This may be one of the best ways to move your DCS files when needed...but it only covers one way to move installation run files and seems to be the simplest way I've found. But if you have any tips or suggestions, please tell us in the comments for the rest of the community.
    This is a great plug for the Community Tab...there we post stories, trends and information, but you will also find links to our missions and custom settings files available from the AWG members. Check it out.

    Thank you for the video. I have aircraft specific kneeboards in the saved games folder. Do they still work after moving everything or is there a shortcut that needs to be changed as well for them to still work? My SSD is getting so full that I need to move it sooner than later. Especially with the Afghanistan map and CH-47 coming out soon.

      They should still work as long as you have the same games, target reference. I didn't notice any problems when I transferred mine over. The one thing is is you can always just copy your safe games folder from the old one and put it in the new one if it creates one.

      @@AIRWARFAREGROUP Thanks for the quick reply! I suppose if it doesn't work I can always just move it back to the original folder. Last thing, I see some people online saying they had to change stuff in the registry. Going in there scares me and never saw you do it in the video. Glad it didn't require that!

    • @AIRWARFAREGROUP

      Good luck and I honestly can't remember if it made a new safe game folder for me or not, but I remember being able to also reinstall my flight controls through the import function in the set up. Basically you have to do one input to create the category and then you just have to import from a file that you have saved.

    When I change drives, I will put the new drive on an unused drive letter, then copy your files to the new drive, after checking that everything is good, I change the old drive letter to another unused letter, and switch the new drive letter back to the original old drive letter (hope you were able to follow my directions), in the example the new drive would end up with the old drive letter. This means you don't have to mess around with chasing shortcuts and changing them to match a different drive letter. After ensuring everything is in working order, I then remove the old drive entirely (unless you have other plans for using it for something else.

    I probably should’ve mentioned that one of the advantages of this technique is you don’t have to do a fresh install on DCS world and you’re modules which might use up one of your nine lives for each module key.

    • @rudelchw
      @rudelchw Před 2 lety +1

      Great video, just wanted to clear up that DCS currently uses a "key-less" copy protection, which basically depends on your ED Username & Password and having an Internet connection so that DCS can "call-home" to ED Servers, which will validate that your installed modules are actually on your account. So, no more "nine lives" 👍

    Thanks Juice. This prompted me to move my installation of DCS from my windows drive to a new dedicated games SSD drive.Here’s what I did.
    Here are the steps: (I moved from a C: drive installation to a new F: drive) both 1TB M.2 SSD.
    1. Copy the Eagle Dynamics folder from its original location to the new location.
    2. Update the shortcut Target path to point to the new location of the updater:
    e.g "F:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe"
    3. Update the shortcut Target start in path to point to the new location
    e.g "F:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World"
    4. Update the registry key using regedit .exe to set path to the same location as in 3 above.
    "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Path"
    Note: Caution on step 4 if unfamiliar with regedit.exe

    Juice - want to add to this. I installed 2 M.2 SSD drives, 1 TB and a 2 TB into my PC this week. I copied my D drive (500 GB SSD where DCS was housed) and pasted into the 2 TB SSD (V drive). Once complete I deleted the files from the D drive, renamed it to the K drive, and then assigned my 1TB drive as the D (DCS) drive. Tested DCS once complete, everything works, including my skatezilla updater, LOTAC, and TACVIEW - all of which were also in my original DCS drive. Never had to reboot.

    I just installed a new 1TB SSD that I was going to install DCS into. I have seen this video (and Grim Reapers) which both have you just cut (or copy and then later delete the original) and then paste into the new SSD. Both videos say no issues, but wouldn't it be simpler to just install DCS World 2.9 right from the website directly into the new SSD drive? That is what I planned to do, but nowhere during the download/installation process of DCS world did it ever give me a choice of which drive to install it to! It just went straight into the old HDD again - with no option to choose installation destination! Is that right? IF so, I guess the only way to get it to the new SSD now is to cut/paste. My concern is that there must be some other installation entries/processes that were written in the registry or who knows where that still reference the old HDD (original DCS location) that might bugger up the works? Hence my desire to simply just install the whole program right into the new SSD. Has anybody seen a choice of drive destination when downloading/installing from DCS website? Did I miss something? Thanks!

    • @AIRWARFAREGROUP
      @AIRWARFAREGROUP  Před 8 měsíci

      Maybe, let us know how it goes...The only thing I can think of that is crucial is to redesignate the letter drive paths on all the launch and repair, update, and such shortcuts. Are you using STEAM?

    • @checksixivan4921
      @checksixivan4921 Před 8 měsíci

      No, using standalone version. After trying this a few more times I notice that the installation process does in fact show the normal window that shows the installation path, but it is only a quick flash where I can see it keeps going to some C: drive destination. It doesn’t pause at that screen and let me input anything - it just zips by and proceeds. I also have already tried changing the default download destination in the registry from C: Program Files to my desired F: Program Files. Restarted the PC , doublechecked the registry where it confirms it updated it, and tried the download again. Same thing - just zips by that screen and I still see it going to C: Not sure what to do next

      So when I did mine, I moved a copy of the whole folder into a different letter drive, then removed the old letter Drive that had the original DCS install and hooked up the new drive, and then installed it on there. Perhaps the reason is with the old drive still in DCS recognize this ad as your install path. Once you move it to another space remover just disconnect. That Drive SATA cable.
