  • FYI - This was copied from a VERY old and worn VHS tape, so my apologies for the video and audio quality. It's not good. Feel free to search the internet to see if anyone else has posted a better version of this clip.
Anne Murray and her daughter, Dawn Langstroth discuss Dawn's recovery from anorexia nervosa on Pamela Wallin's Show (CBC Newsworld, Canada) - January 1999. Bonus news clips at the end of the interview :) ---

What a great interview. I am watching this in 2023... a 67 year old woman lucky to be alive. I finally dealt with my disorder while in my 30's. Dawn is right .. no one is ever recovered... We are always in recovery. Dawn, your words are brilliant. Thank you ! I found you after getting nostalgic and finding every video I could of your Mom singing. The best videos were of your duets with her.

I admire you that you bring the truth up to the surface and deal with the facts of what happened in your family. I just love your openness. I deal with a situation with my son, and he has always not wanted to deal with his hurts. He thinks if you don't talk about them, they'll go away. But that's not how our soul is designed. Our soul carries hurts and heart wounds that have to be healed. Sometimes unforgiveness is the key to ones healing. I love it that you and your daughter talk to each other. I know my son would get well if he would just say where it was that he got hurt. Thank you so much for this broadcast. It is very healing! BTW....I have been to two of your concerts and absolutely loved it.

The vibe between Anne and Dawn is conflicted!

Dawn Langstroth does not want to follow in the shoes of her mother Anne Murray.
Dawn is shouting this, but Her Mom does’t hear her daughters cry to be her own person.
I believe Anne needs to get to know her daughter, and stop the expectation of perfection for her daughter, because Anne is a perfectionist, and has passed it to her Daughter who has experienced extra stress or trauma from living within a stressed family upbringing.

I can see another trigger here in thst Anne does not allow Dawn to answer the questions posed to Her!
It's almost like that know it all kid in class, showing off how much they "know." I get truly annoyed by one person, constantly interrupting, speaking over, &/or speaking for someone who's sitting right there & csn Clearly speak for him/herself. Even more disrespectful when it's Dawn's Very own problem, not Anne's.

I think of Karen Carpenter and her troubled relationship with her mother. Karen needed validation from her mother for her beautiful voice.....so Anne knew about Karen's story as they had met via Hollywood functions but probably thought she should be eating....and then it happened in her family. Both were beautiful singers altos/contraltos....
