Rik Mayall was basically awesome in everything he ever did. A perfect work C.V. He's hugely missed.
He really was fantastic. And so good at playing both incredibly cool and incredibly repulsive characters... How could Richie from Bottom and Lord Flasheart from Blackadder be the same person? I have to say, though, I almost regret that he didn't have more of the 'cool' roles... he's so suave and handsome and charismatic when he wants to be.
@@DodderingOldMan He was also in an episode of Midsomer Murders where his character got killed.
RIP Duane Eddy😥 1938-2024
The Art of Noise classic hit from 38 years ago, Peter Gunn... what a classic tune it was, and it was made even special with the assistance of the late, great Duane Eddy who passed away 90 minutes ago today. I'm sure he'll be playing from the heavens above and that we will always remember him. The album In Visible ( Invisible ) Silence was one of AON's best efforts, especially this hit and Legs, such memories. I had this CD, and their first album, Who's Afraid of the Art of Noise released 40 years ago, 1984, but they're gone now ( due to missed payments on our storage...😓 ), we'll missed you Duane Eddy and thanks for the sounds that resonates the Art.....of Music 🎶!
They did such an over the top GREAT job with doing this Peter Gunn theme. I loved it in the 80s and still love it.
RIP Duane Eddy... I loved The Art Of Noise in the 80s, but after they disbanded, I decided to give some of Duane's own music a try in the 90s... Absolutely love his guitar-playing style! Very sad that he's no longer with us as of today 😢
One of the most unusual and bizarre pairings in music history, Duane Eddy and the Art of Noise. Hell, it worked. Rad.
"One of the most unusual and bizarre pairings in music history"
You don't know much music, do you?
@@LarsTragel-zh7ei I agreed with that. I never woulda thought! But HERE IT IS!
March 1986 the group released their version of Peter Gunn [UK: #8], featuring their first guest artist, legendary American guitarist Duane Eddy who had already had a hit with the Henry Mancini composition in 1959. This new version was recorded in Dudley’s living room. It entered the UK singles chart on 22nd March, remaining there for nine weeks. The promotional video for the single was directed by Matt Forrest and featured comedy actor Rik Mayall in the lead role as a private detective.
Totally loved this group in the 80s, and always got ragged on for it. I'm nearly 50, and this is the first time I ever saw this! Too cool for words.
Same here ! I dont Recall seeing this video I saw the one close to the edit on MTV OR VH1 I FIRST HEARD THIS SONG ON 88.7FM COLLEGE RADIO IN CHICAGO. AON IS TOPS !!
Hey I heard this when I was in fourth grade, I loved it (still love it today in 2021) you will never hear a group like Art of Noise again today which is sad.
Same here. I loved Art of Noise and had no idea what they looked like. I thought they hid out on purpose, maybe to cultivate mystery. Which I thought was cool as hell, but I guess they were around to see and I just missed them.
I came here from WXPN who played this in honor of Duane Eddy. I loved this song as a teenager in the 80’s. Such a great blast from the past
Peter Gunn is one of those things that you watched growing up as part of my generation that was a private kind of cool.... the kind that you didn't want to share with anybody else. And to this day the theme of it is absolute gold ., even when I hear it now it leaves you with a tingle down your spine. It is a small beautiful jazz painting made out of musical notes with a dark middle-of-the-night feel
I miss the Duane Eddy version. Down and dirty sax on top of the guitar(s). This version was a pre-wall-of-sound production, but you could hear where they were heading or going, Phil Spector & all his musicians. Da Doo Ron Ron and Then He Kissed Me. This was pre-stereo, right before iirc.
Check out MeTV on Sunday mornings at 3am!
He was born the same year as my late father. I'd love to go back in time to meet my mom & dad when they were young. You know, before me and my sister made them older... Love what they did. They raised two great kids!!!
Art of Noise and Rik Mayall. All heroes of mine! I was lucky enough to meet Rik back in 2013, a real sweetheart. Much missed x
It's an amazing tune with the amazing late Rik May all ♥️♥️
Mrs just informed me the passing of Duane today and we were remembering the 45 single I have of this.
So, thanks Duane for giving the Art of Noise the inspiration for this Track.
Twang in peace Dwane.
Art of Noise was amazing. All of their work holds up, it somehow gets even better over the years. Trailblazers.
This video was made for Rik Mayall to star in. He manages to mix styles of dork and cool in the character. He is sorely missed.
PlanetNiles you seem confident about that, do you know who the actor playing the part is? Not that I doubt you but one is curious
@@Fyodor48 I'm pretty sure it's the lead dude from Art of Noise. Mayall isn't credited on the imdb page
and I'm instantly back to happy, carefree times in the 80s.
That part at 2:20 induces such a feeling of nostalgia I can almost 'smell' the summer of 1986 again. Ah, memories!
Omg...thats what I just said. That low bass synth kicking against the strings 💖
One of the greats. Rest in peace, Duane Eddy.💙
A group that is ridiculously underrated they first came onto the scene! Been loving you from the beginning! YOU ROCK! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Love that TWANG! My mom had a couple of Duane Eddy's albums from he HS days, I used to listen to them over and over as a kid in the 70's - RIP
For years after this hit MTV, I wondered who the detective was. I didn't recognize Rik Mayall. He looks like a young Robert Mitchum. Rik was a standout, just something joyful in all his performances. Thanks for all the laughs Rik. This is just about my all time favorite video from the MTV days.
This is much clearer and cleaner than any other copy of this clip on CZcams. Great video! We miss you Rik.
The 80s were The Art of Noise
Wow - I had this on vinyl back then and hadn't heard it for decades until this eve. Saw Mayall live back in '92 and still miss him!
When I was a kid we all thought this was "the music from Spy Hunter", the video game. My Dad recognized it right away.
This is probably one of the things that got me interested in film noir.
For me, it was the music from Rock N Roll Racing. I grew up in the SNES era.
Hehe me too. Spent many a cut class playing Spy Hunter at the local Pizzeria.
Oh man... they just played this on Sirius 80s channel. So happy now.
AoN forever ❤️❤️
Great to see Riks performance given a quality upload
Blessed are the noisemakers
I'd like to dedicate this to my late friend and colleague 'Woody', who loved Duane Eddy and this theme. When he found out about this new version, he was beside himself. You'll always be remembered, when I hear a twanging guitar.
Art of Noise will be forever the best sampler machine users band !! 😅 🤩
RIP Duane farewell to a legend....
That dance at 3:04… That’s how I’m gonna start walking into work every day
You can type it, and when people click on it, the vid automatically jumps to 3:04
This is definitely my favorite rendition of the theme that I've heard as of writing this comment. I love the twang of Duane Eddie's guitar, and the weird instrumentals. It's just a weird piece of music, but it's great.
So long, Duane, you were a true legend.
this really did squeeze as much of the 80's in as possible.
the forerunners of Modern Art Rock! An absolute classic. Sharing this to FB and YT pages
So glad Rik left us wonderful performances like these to remember him by.
Bought this album when it came out. Would play it in my physical education classes. Kids loved it.
Brings back memories from the '80s! Thanks for the upload!
The genius HENRY MANCINI wrote this ! My most favourite ,no.1 composer of movies / tv dramas's theme music composer all time !!! Pink Panther ,Moon River & Charade,so on ! I used to dance to this one in clubs in the 80's ! 👍🥁🎵🐉💜🎤🎶💞
This is one of the greatest things ever created by anyone, anywhere
Pure memories listening to this back in the 80s . 😊
"The Lady in Red" is apparently Charlotte Weston, strange it's so hard to find a credit anywhere. A classic tune and video.
Is she the same person that led the singers on AofN's The Tube episode with Duane Eddy in 1986?
Fantastic shout mate. Googled and you are spot on. Still a lovely looker but what a stunner then 🤘
One of the finest things The A O N have ever done and with one of the finest guitar men whoever lived the one and only Dwayne Eddy
Positive memories of first hearing)( added bonus of a fantastic video RIP Rik ) another Banger from these Legends 😎👍
Rik Mayall R.I.P 1958 - 2014
Mr Amicus A brilliant talent. He was great in the "The Young Ones".
"There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing. They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him."
“And now he’s died for real. Without me. Selfish b*****d."
Ade Edmondson
The one, the only, the greatest of the great, Rik "The Prick" Mayall, ladies and gentlemen!
Rest in peace rik great actor looks cool in this, i have a blu ray to watch of the young ones with lots if extra unseen footage should be amazing.
Watched this so many times over the last few years. Love both the track and video, but only today have I noticed the title of the Newspaper. Brilliant!
Sooo goooood. The Art of Noise was so underrated. I LOVE them.
What an amusing musical, the video is like a musical, the tune is...Art Of Noise, you did the best
...one of my favourite songs in general. Thank you, AON
This will never go out of style.
Long live "The Young Ones"!
Thank you! I was racking my brain trying to remember the name of that show. Oh how I wish they would put it on CZcams.
I always dug this video when MTV was music TV and being an avid watcher of the young ones loved the fact that they cast rik for the role as lead solo cool rik will always be missed as a comic icon.
I owned this album back in the day. Forgotten gem!
Great New York accent from a legendary Brit... Young One Rik... miss you man
Definitely a TRIFECTA. Take the Peter Gunn theme with its electrifying riff, add Mr. Duane Eddy and his unique sound and then put them together in a very fun video. I have tears in my eyes, sadness in my heart and head. You live on Mr. Duane Eddy, you will never die. Posted May 2, 2024
i have 2 art of noise cassettes i bought in the 80s, one with this tune....bought a d eddy greatest hits c.d. in the early 2000s....all great music to this day in 2024....great art is time less....
memories of MTV back in the good old days.😄
He was one of the great guitarists I use to play his records in my youth and still do .
Used to watch
THE YOUNG ONES. Rik was hilarious. Miss him
That bar is so 80's I love it.
these songs just prove that there was way more creativity with 80's artists than their is today
@RandomNameHere
Yes, but as far as the musical style of this group goes (a woman wrote all their own songs), it remains unrivaled in terms of innovation to this day!
Except that this was a remake of a tune that originally came out in 1959...
@DaveDaRave1980 Thanks for the clarification on this. I'll have to check out the original version. What wasn't good music wise in the 80's though? Modern music still cannot beat the classics I feel like.
Duane Eddy and that awesome guitar sound!
remember playing the original of this when i was growing up as my mum had it on single when i heard art of noises cover wow 😲😲😲 superb especially with the great Duane eddy YEAH 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Style to spare and tunes that won't be stopped.
This video is doing what the movie Dick Tracy THOUGHT it was doing!
An amazing music video, for amazing music. Listened to AON very much in my early youth
Loved this song when it came out. Bought the single that had that extended cut. Listened to it a lot.
one of the best songs of all time
.and now I'm going to find my copy of the album. One of my first ever CDs.
The Art of Noise meets the movie The Forbidden Zone.
I can’t believe I didn’t recognize Rik Mayall.
Forbidden Zone RULES! All hail Oingo Boingo, but I hope we never get that awful looking sequel, Richard Elfman is a legit lunatic.
It wasn't until he was standing next to the juke box - and he pulled that classic grin - that I realized the private eye was the Young One himself. RIP - Duane and Rik
Probably one of the best collaborations ever
Amazing. So many musical movements in 80's Britain.
The Art of Noise were brilliant. It's obvious why they went on to score British films.
Finally found this song! Didn't know it was by Art of Noise. Heard it in Bridget Jones' Diary waaay back in 2003... 😂 Been looking for it ever since!
Arran Boon - By Henry Mancini, then covered by ELP before this version (although they never made a video of theirs).
I remember when a local radio station would end their broadcast day at 12AM with this song. WZZY 98.3 in Winchester Indiana. A LONG time ago. Gawd, I'm old. haha!
Il film non l'ho mai visto, nemmeno in televisione, figuriamoci! Però gli Art of Noise, li conosco!
Big beat madness. I'm so old that I actually used to watch "peter gunn" with my granny lol. Yup, I'm fartin dust over here.
A great music video! One of my favorite ones I learnt English from! THUMBS UP!
RIP Duane Eddy... 4/30/24
Always loved this song, thanks for a good copy finally.
I have a nice double-album, on cassette-tape, of a compilation of Duane Eddy's greatest hits with the Rebels. I believe it was called "Twang Thang". Really great stuff.
Feeling old. I'd live it all over again if I could and not change a thing.
One of my favourite pieces of music ever. Imagine my delight to discover there’s video. Liked and subscribed.
Great version of the track with Duane
Great experimental stuff; I always had the feeling they were experimenting with music. They had a school of their own. Wonderful work !
In the spring of 1986,all (or mostly) bright blue skies after a couple of months of snow and ice, this gave Art of Noise their second major hit in the UK,matching the number 8 of Close (to the Edit) a year and a bit earlier. Well worth sending in the cleaners to Harry's Bar for.
Rik Mayall, here. Awesome video. The Art Of Noise is a good group.
My first experience with The Art of Noise was a video I saw on "Night Flight" on USA Network in 1982. Title unknown to me; featured various instruments being attacked by chain-saw weilding guys, including a piano. To me at the time, I thought it was showing how the musical instruments of yesteryear were going away, replaced by this relatively new synth technology and the still-novel media of video expressionism/impressionism. The next was their cover of 'Dragnet' for the film.
Always awesome.
Thanks I just now realised it’s Rik Mayal, seen him LIVE in Glasgow many, many years ago. Such a really Funny Guy 👍👍😄😄🌞🌞
20 years ahead of it's time
No, it was of its time... Hell, the twang guitar had already been done in 1959, 27 years before this remake
What an extraordinary piece of imagination.
Great song, cool video, an 80's classic.
One of the best videos.
This is so funky, I love AoN's take on it.
RIP Duane Eddy 86. Loved his guitar 🎸 playing.
