  • No one talks about smart apartments... Well, I do. I'm going to set up the smallest apartment (simulation) with Shelly Plus Plugs, Shelly Duo and Vintage smart bulbs, and a Shelly Button 1 as well as a Home Assistant installation from scratch to show just how easy it is to turn any space into a smart space.

I sat here for 40 minutes knowing that AllMyCircuits has no internet. I'm glad you didn't edit or completely redo the episode because it's real and we've all done it in one form or another. Some Assembly Required has gotten the best of us.

Yeah, lol, I think honesty is always the best policy. I want my viewers to know what they see is real and I'm learning as much as I'm showing. Life's an adventure and adventures rarely go according to plan.

Right up my alley. I've been running various flavors of Ubuntu on ThinkPads for many years. I'm currently running HA in VirtualBox. I have no interest in using "the cloud". In fact, I run my own NextCloud on my own hosting. I have no desire to control my house from afar via the web. I shopped for smart devices and many want you to sign up on their website to set up the device. Found Shelly and grabbed a Plus 1 relay from amazon but evidently got a bad one because it's ad hoc network doesn't show. I do need to call my ISP and make sure this DSL Modem/router isn't somehow blocking it. I had already thought of getting a stand alone router for my local network of things. My NoT? LNoT?
My project isn't my house but a high tunnel I'm building. Water on a schedule or override the schedule if soil is dry. Open/close vents and sides but close most of the way if wind speed exceeds 25mph. Turn on fans if humidity gets too high. Grow lights in a corner in late Winter on a timed schedule. I'd like it to be completely self contained and self powered via solar panels and can do everything on 12 vdc except for powering the fans, though I am looking at aftermarket vehicle radiator fans for that. Vents and sides can be 12 vdc gearmotors and/or linear actuators. RV pump for watering. Inverter for LED grow lights(and maybe fans). Four 6 vdc golf cart batteries wired in series and parallel for 12vdc storage.
Thoughts on Z-Wave? Was looking into Z-Wave in general and this item instead of a router - Zooz 700 Series Z-Wave Plus S2 USB Stick. Zoos seems to be right up there with Shelly and there's more of a selection of Z-Wave devices via Zoos and others than just using Shelly. Of course with HA, I could run both and more.

My daily driver. Thinkpad W530(8 × Intel® Core™ i7-3820QM CPU @ 2.70GHz) running Kubuntu 22.04 with the Plasma desktop. (screamin' demon)
My soon to be HA and HTPC machine - Thinkpad W500(2 × Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2.53GHz) running Kubuntu 20.04 with the Plasma desktop.(major difference between 8 and 2 cores)
My next laptop will be a P series.

Love your greenhouse idea. I've had similar operations in tents for pole beans--run on a Raspberry Pi with a multi-channel relay board and various sensors. Once you get it all dialed in, I'm sure it'll be great!
I haven't tried z-wave devices yet, but primarily because I try to stick to "traditional" routers for easy swapping. Not necessarily against it--it's a good standard that's served the commercial world admirably for 20+ years.

Maybe you can have the Live chat open at a later date so we can interact and that would take up the "Air Gap" in the video. LOL Enjoying your content. I would make it a hidden or private network if possible. I know that Axxis IP cameras have a security issue where you can log in to the camera which is crazy. Btw im just making comments as i follow the video. lol.
