The U.S. celebrated because that was during the civil war were the northern states were in war against the southern states here in the U.S. so the U.S were weak at the time so On May 5, 1862, the Mexican army defeated the French in the Battle of Puebla. This prevented French Emperor Napoleon III from supplying weapons to the Confederacy during the Civil War. In other words the French weren’t able to come in to the US at the weakest time for the US. Things Could’ve gone really bad if they did.
