my perspective of otherside has completely changed... so a mini analysis!!!:
the song starts very positive n cheery but as soon as it hits these lines, the song kinda takes a turn. The speaker feeling like going home is a burden - a constant reminder of the lost one - with the “got to” bit. “Old bones” here I interpreted to be memorabilia of them. The speaker then “sees” the late love & the song spirals into longing. From then onwards, it’s almost as if the “old bones” triggered a flashback for the speaker, and we too are being taken on this spiral of yearning n pain I guess. The speaker keeps calling despite clearly knowing the love will never “pick up” bc obviously... that’s impossible lol. However, the speaker still worries for the love; “sleeping” perhaps a metaphor for death. It could also read as delusion on the speakers behalf, believing their love is just in a long rest and will wake up one day. In context of all this, I think “the other side” could mean some sort of afterlife. The speaker mentions how they can “meet [the love] there [the other side]” because it’s “killing [them] anyways”, which reads as a disregard of reality, they already feel dead without the love. The last verse is rlly interesting because of all the death semantic field: “sleeping”, “dark”, “alone”, “cold.” With the image of lying in a dark, cold place alone - we almost get the image of a grave; how someone lies when they’re buried. by the speaker comparing themselves to the buried love, they further contribute to the image of them already being dead without the love. The speaker here is saying “I’m already lying in my grave here anyways”

okay i just wanted to leave a comment to say that jae said his project of 'eaj' is him going back to his roots and somehow otherside did just that for me when i listened to it for the first time. i'm not exactly sure why but i played it and it really reminded me of the kind of music i would listen to while studying during my first year of high school. it's a bittersweet feeling but it made me look back and i got emotional for a minute because back then i honestly didn't know if i'd make it and now i'm graduating uni this year. thank you eaj for making me cry at 2am 😩
