Decoding Relationships- Rahu/Ketu & Soulmates

- In the West, ‘soulmate’ typically means ‘your other half’ or ‘your missing piece’. This follows Plato’s theory that there is a perfect half that you’re missing who like a puzzle piece will ‘fit’ you once you find them. . In the Vedic tradition, everyone with whom we have a karmic debt is in a sense our soulmate, and they can ideally-speaking help us work out that debt in an evolutionary way. The question becomes, when matching with potential life partners, how do we find someone with whom we have a strong enough connection, but with whom the karma isn’t so dreadful that we’re going to hate every minute being with them? How do we find someone with whom we can evolve, rather than create more debts to be paid in some future life? And is it possible to find the Platonic ideal- our perfect half- with whom we can have our karmic cake… and eat it too?
Astrologically, RA/KE represent the myth of the sundered being- the person cut in half, constantly looking for wholeness. That is, in fact, the essence of RA/KE- the search for wholeness. One being, divided, looking for its complement. Rahu searches with his senses- his eyes, tongue, etc. KE searches with his inner sense- his spiritual and intuitive side. When the RA/KE axis of one person conjoins sensitive points in another’s chart, a pull, or compulsion towards that person is created. When it’s with the SU, it suggests a ‘soul connection;’ with VE, fantasies of romance and sensuality; with MO a deep emotional bond forged from prior lifetimes as a best friend, lover, but most likely a parent/child. With the Lagna, a genetic pull towards the body of that person. Perhaps you are genetically, or at least karmically, the ‘same’ in some way. In fact, RA/KE rule your ancestors- the desires and habits you’ve inherited from many generations.
Today, DNA testing helps us see where our ancestors lived. RA/KE do that in your chart- helping to channel the good/bad karma of the departed through you. When your RA/KE connect to another’s sensitive points- SU, MO, VE, LG- then some part of your ancestry- your ‘karmic dna’ wakes up and begins pulling you towards them. In this way, RA/KE represent Plato’s myth of the ‘perfect complement’- the soulmate ideal. Unfortunately, we know from Jyotisha that RA/KE are malefics, because in their blind search for unity they ultimately ignore ṛta- the essential order of the universe- perhaps better described as dharma.
This is where the Vedic tradition takes off- looking not just at who makes you feel ‘whole’ - but who will help you best live your dharma. That is why relationships based solely on the Platonic ideal ultimately fail if they do not also have a strong dharmic connection. What are the Platonic ‘soulmate’ indicators? Many exist, among which are the above-mentioned RA/KE links. Consider also connections between one partner’s SU and the other’s MO; one partner’s MA and the other’s VE, and one partner’s VE to the other partner’s LG. These are all mentioned in Western Synastry as supportive of ‘true love’. However, in practice, they may not be enough if the charts are not well supported by deeper methods. RA/KE act like a fast-drying glue that bonds people quickly, but also quickly turns brittle. If a relationship depends only on them it will fail- that’s why they are termed as malefics. They rule “moha” - delusion- and once the harsh light of reality sets in, what you are left with is what is going to make the relationship work or break apart. Think of it like this: RA/KE links are based on a past-life bond. But what happens when you work that past life karma out- do you have any common interests in this life to hold you together? People become so enamored of the past they forget to look at the reality of each other’s current situation, and its potential to create a future together.

Amazing research!! I checked this in many charts and yes! I did see a pattern like that. But not just the moon sign, I saw that it matches other person’s D1/D9 ascendant OR Atmakaraka (soul planet) too if not moon. 😊
So to be clear, your rahu ketu axis in D9 and partner’s moon sign in D1 should be same?

What about ketu conjuct moon? And also who feels the effect of compulsive connection, is it Rahu person or moon person?
Do we look at our D1 or D9 charts? (Coz our D1 only connect at 5, 9 ☀️ away but our D9 connect like conjunction/opposite crazy)

Ok i found this very useful into understanding just how intensity works. I've spent a year asking questions but this took it to a new level. From the bottom of my heart, i would like to thank you, even now as i see the date, when this is published i realize i could have used this a year ago. I'd also like to share one experience, as a show of my gratitude and as a confirmation that this works.
Last year, December the 7th to be exact, i met a person that to me was super, suuuuuuper magnetic. I saw him and bam, i wanted to marry him. It didn't work out, and here's why:
My ascendant is Aquarius, i got Saturn in my first house
His ascendant is Leo, he's got Saturn in his seventh house
Rahu in my chart is in my 12th house, his Ketu is in his 12th house
Ketu is in my 6th house, his Rahu is in his 6th house
We both have moon in 8th house, only his 8th house is in Pisces and mine is in Virgo.
My Sun is in Capricorn, 12th house, and his in Aries, 9th house
So yeah, maybe it could have worked, since we did have a few brief moments where we had an actual conversation, instead of fighting each other or giving into lust. But looking back at it, it helped me realize my own flaws and intolerance, primarily with myself.

My TF and I have NN and SN conjunctions. My moon is conjunction with his NN.rahu.

I had an intense relationship (that ended badly) with a person whose birth chart has a lot of similarity with my D9 chart. Ascendant in the same sign, Rahu and Ketu and three other planets in the same houses. What should I make of that information? What does it mean or could mean?
how do you count the houses for rahu? clockwise or counter clockwise
Is it felt only by person who has the rahu that's overlapping the cornerstones of the other person or is it mutual??

My rahu is the other persons ketu. We have the same moon sign only a different house aspect. The ascendant of the person also hits my ketu and 5th house or so and I think in Venus it's again opposite but don't know for sure. Don't have all the information..
It's like feeling/sensing the crazy energy, rememberance of recognition but for now it was just a crazy ride for about 2 years.. It was to intense, not with integrity, huge age gap, diffrent life visions and childish behaviour.

My ex husband and I had Jupiter and moon in Scorpio. Ketu in cancer ( my lagna) and Rahu in Capricorn. Our Atmamarak is mercury. There was lack of physical intimacy but he abused me on all levels. Then during sadhey saati he filed For divorce. Since it wasn't an arranged Marriage. And till date I feel it was my payback from the last birth or births. How about having our Rahu and Ketu 1°20' apart from their Rahu and Ketu and within the sign their Ketu is in, there are also Sun and Moon? It's like my soul is yearning for this person's soul. I realised that only a few months after it happened. It kind of mentally freaked me out at the time. So I'm curious too. I would love some input on this.
Can the Ra-Ke conjunction be in opposite houses? I don't understand whether he is talking about opposite signs or opposite houses. Instead of Rahu Ketu axis being conjunct in let's say virgo and pisces sign, can it also be in let's say fourth and tenth house!? Yes. Ascendant doesn't matter here. Ra-Ke axis are on same house-axis. For ex: one person's Ra Ke on 2-8 axis and other persons Ra Ke also in 2-8 or 8-2 axis.

I am an Aries Sun 8°/ Libra Moon 14°
I have an extremely intense connection with a man that has his North Node in Libra and his South Node in Aries at 16°
This causes:
My Sun conjunct his SN 8°
My Moon conjunct his NN 2°
AND
My Moon opposite his SN 2°
My Sun opposite his NN 8°
Side note: My North Node also conjuncts his Moon. But at a much wider orb, about 23°
I’ve found MANY things online about one or the other, but not when there are aspects to BOTH.
How is the Node person affected and how is the Moon person affected?
In fact in soulmate synastry the orb allowed for nodal axis aspects between the 2 persons is only 1 degree to fit the soulmate category and not more than 4 to have a bonding effect.
Jo Montanee Thank for your reply even a year later. Lol. However I didn’t mention soulmate, I asked how we were affected because the connection was always very intense. Particularly for the 2° aspect. I mentioned the 8° aspect because I’ve read and a few Synastry books that say it can be up to 10° sometimes. The connection was always extremely intense. And while we are no longer in communication I still feel the aftershock of it all almost a year later.
