Did anyone else realise that Chen can speak,Tagalog ,Cantonese , Spanish and English
@@cjscjsj oh sorry I should’ve realised that, thanks for telling me
@@rikirke did you mean Tagalog?
@@cypher3356 sorry I must of missed clicked when typing I will fix that now
LA officers need to speak Spanish most of the time, i was raised in LA and only could speak Spanish ( I'm still practicing English), it's because of the Latin American gangs that are there, it can save their life when they know what people talk behind their backs also because many immigrants are coming to LA. 🙋🏽♂️ (I hope i answered your question when it was one) 😅
The spanish I remember hearing from her were syllables rhythmically memorized and on english intonation, with evident mistakes (not critizising, just pointing out, learning a new language is far from easy). Both Chen and Bradford. But Winter did a better job because he had his wife (luckiest woman) teaching him. Native Castillian here. And I'm going away now.
THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS SHOW. None of those Cop show glamours. They show the cracks, leaks and broken part of the system and being a police officer. LAPD Being one of the worst. And Chen’s dad has a point, when someone is mentally ill, going H.A.M. on them is easier. They need help.
Same, but Lucy was still right in this one. You never know if that guy could kill someone and if she didn't arrest him whatever damage he'd cause would be on her. I mean, he harmed his own therapist FFS... the guy is a lost cause. He's lucky enough she sent him to get help in the end, but I don't think he deserved it after attacking the one person willing to help him without envolving the cops. Good riddance.
Kudos to the show for not having an easy reconciliation between Chen and her father
I still hope they can fix that. ❤
Unfortunately, I see Chen's father's point. Whilst I understand that a crime is a crime, the US legal and health system deals those with mental disorders a pretty awful card, especially those with a low income. It's something many nations struggle with, but the United States seems to do particularly badly...
Also, in this case... if the victim doesn't press charges and can genuinely explain that it was an accident, why make an arrest?
Still, it takes a lot of guts to be bitching about the american system while being an immigrant from China. Probably old enough to remember the Cultural Revolution.
@@DrakhAutokrator That he knows worse doesn't mean that he can't demand better.
@GamerKat'71 I'd agree up until the point where she herself starts asking his visitor whether he was the one who hurt him and makes an arrest.
Canadian police system is a good bit messed too but the officers are doing pretty good with reasonable arrests of people. example the day that man took and van and ran multiple people over and cause a lot of mayhem and destruction but I still want to give congratulations to the officer who choose to arrest him instead of agreeing with the public to shot them dead. the police, medical, mental, etc. systems are not perfect but they have improved a lot from the past and are willingly improving for the future
He broke a mans arm. What if next time it isnt his therapist but a complete stranger. Things are never black and white sure, but I hate to say it but at the end of the day the law is the law, injuries of that magnitude shouldn't be excused as an accident when you do it to someone else. Mental health is a touchy subject, and the current system has flaws to be sure, but I'll be honest especially with a country as big and diverse as the USA the system is really trying it's best here man.
He speaks so much truth that shows rarely speak about
chen is pretty good for speaking cantonese

Kudos to ABC for casting an Asian male as the father figure for a mixed Asian female actress.
Except they also cast an Asian female for her mother (Tough Love, S2E5). If the character is of mixed descent like the actress, that doesn't work too well.

This is what terrifies me about those with disabilities. Being a mother to a special needs child...as they age the kindness and understanding from others fade. I pray for all those with loved ones who need care and patience from this cold world. G_d help us all ♡
I was that type of caregiver. And I can confirm it definitely is a mental struggle. One day its fine another its abuse. I don't regret working for the agency. But if I didn't I would have broke. I miss my guys everyday.
Two incidents in Visalia involving special needs men who had interactions with police. Both of them had K9 dogs rip their skin.
The first incident was a man hanging around blocks away from his house where people claim he was looking in cars at a Save Mart lot and another incident where a man was having an episode where the mother called the hospital and the police used aggressive force having a K9 bite his face.
Notice how when West was dating the guy at the hospital we saw him every time anyone went into the hospital, but now that West moved on we never see him and Grace is now at the center of everything in any hospital scene.

@GamerKat'71 why shouldn't he? He saw a lack of compassion from his daughter. He saw someone who was willing to put a mentally ill person in an environment that could make him worse because she's a sticker for a 'broken' law. Instead of someone who was willing to help his patient get better, honestly I would have done the same
Let's think about this for a second, William assaulted a person, now what? Statistics show that incarceration is worse for mental health. In my opinion, the person should be evaluated by a doctor, and they will decide if they need treatment or not.
@@gideonaddo4242 he
@@gideonaddo4242 What do you mean "lack of compassion?" She clearly didn't want him to go to jail. She wrote a doc of why he needs med help and she said she would help the other guy's mother with mental health. She had so much compassion. She did her job(arresting him) and was still a good person(She helped him by making sure he got help not prison.) Did you see the ending? She was never going to put him in a bad environment.
You know, the fact that she said "Ah Ba" (Dad in English) instead of "Ba Ba", shows that whoever wrote the script knows Cantonese very well. "Ah Ba" is very cultural, only people who speak Cantonese will use that, and not "Ba Ba".
Normally on Cantonese movies they call dad “baba”
no, using ah ba is a casual way to address your father, as a person that speaks Cantonese, most movies and dramas use ah ba
Father: "The law is broken!" Me: "So is your arm.."
i was thinking the same lmao

Its so heartwarming to hear the Canto on television and good canto too.
Great to hear officer Chen very fluent & accurate Cantonese dialogue mixed up with Californian accent

I like the way Chen works; only if there were more like her (in real life)
As soon as I noticed the girlfriend wearing a Hijab, and all the crosses throughout the woman's house, I knew exactly what was about to happen. The woman needs serious help.
is it just me, I watch the series because of her, she is just stunning in every angle.
Yes
In California a Police Officer is one of the deciding authorities that can label you a 5150 patient for your conduct. You have to be medically cleared by a Medical Doctor before a Behavioral Heath Professional can speak with you. The weird thing is, a doctor can not label you one for your conduct inside their own hospital. They have to phone the Police to interview you.
Oh thats great, a bunch of untrained, trigger happy, thugs, with more power.

There's a difference between faith and fanaticism and sad to say that lady was part of the latter group.
That's actually true. Every system in the world has it's flaws. The police department has the most. This is gonna sound cliche, but with great power comes great responsibility. In this case, the police doesn't care what it does. Arresting mentally ill people is ok if they need to be restricted, but they shouldn't be jailed. They should go get a therapist or to a psych ward if more serious treatment is needed.
Love it
The Rookie, Do you know when your show is coming back to Australia because I can’t wait to watch it again!

While I get her father's view, what if a mentally challenged person had killed a child and didn't know any better? You would find it very rare for the friends and family of the victim to be the forgiving types, yet because they are mentally challenged, they suffer no punishment? It's a very gray area indeed
The point is that they shouldn't be punished at all. Punishment is only a deterrent, and deterrents do not work if the person is not fully in control of their actions.
Therefore punishment is useless and cruel. The mentally ill/challenged person should be kept away from those they can hurt, and get the help they need if possible.
@@MartinFinnerupikr there is a prison in Finland that lets people work and live normally kind off
@@MartinFinnerup It really depends on how concious and aware they are of their own actions. If they have enough mental capacity to understand that their actions are wrong, they should both be held accountable, and recieve the help they need.

The "I don't have a choice" excuse is such BS.
If he chooses not to press charges, she doesn't have to arrest him.
OK, I'm Christian but I think that boy's mom is several gears short of a working clock. But a broken mind doesn't justify actions that can break the mind and/or body of another, a person must be punished for their victim to be justified. That's what justice is. Punishing those who do wrongly towards others, and rewarding those who do rightly.
No. Simply no.
Yep.
She's so gorgeous...I just wanna hug her, as a person to person to give respect....
I thought she couldn't arrest him unless her father pressed charges.
Maybe some things are just for drama.
(Example: "24 hs" missing persons BS)

I always like officer Bishop
The father is not wrong. The prison system is extremely. Glad the guy got the help needed. I wish all prisoners had help. The US needs a complete reform of the prison system and different structure of the prison across US. Prisoners should be treated, not punished.
Mental illness is not an excuse to break the law.
Take them home .
Nope they should be treated like the scum they are 🤷🤷
@GamerKat'71 I am sorry for your cousin. But seeing the recidivism rates is concerning, because even if they go behind bars, they are more likely to commit more crimes, and cause trouble with more fights, since this is what they learn from being in prison. Also. with limited resources to start a new life when released from prison, they are not ready to join society with limited access to a job and limited access to a new career. Please during your vacation time, visit the prisons in Norway, you will surprised at how they treat their prisoners. Spoiler, they treat all prisoners like all of us. No bars, freedom to walk anywhere, except out of prison. Prisoners never fight there, and they never commit more crimes. Therefore, you sometimes need to help people find ways to not do it again (better treatment programs), not punish (in prison bars), because that is hidden assault and battery.
@@Randomguy41639 They are people. THey are human beings. They need help. They don't help prisoners learn their lesson. They become vicious animals. Please check the statistics and structures of prisons in Norway, Sweden and Finland.

"The law is broken" sure so people who are dangerous shouldn't be removed from the public and allowed to hurt people. Being arrested and put in jail awaiting trial is temporary. Typically it ends up with them being ordered for treatment.
I like all the FTOs from a realistic POV, but I think either Bishop or Harper are the best of the bunch. Granted, both have had *stumbles*, but still.
I really loved Bishop. It's unfortunate the actress didn't want to continue.
