    What a line up and what a sound, Stewart with an awesome sounding classic Musicman bass, Duffy with his unmistakable Gretch and the best of the lot Cult drummer Nigel Preston RIP, and then Astbury hilariously hitting the right string occasionally on a 12 string, cant help thinking there was probably 11 strings to many on that guitar for Ian to manage, great sound and one of my favourate Cult songs only marginally spoilt by a wittering Kershaw pratling on about god knows what with one of the coolest bands of the day stood behind waiting to hit it. Brilliant song

    Thanks to whoever posted this! I get to finally see these appearances on the Grey Whistle Test which we never got to see here in the USA! Better late than never!

    Had all their releases and love the drums here on this one.Of course they did allow the drummer to be heard unlike some other bands.

    RESURRECTION JOE ! Love this track. Just wish The Cult would include it in their live sets. Also great use of a whistle on the Whistle test ! ??

    Thanks! This is awesome. I remember seeing The Cult in 87 when they opened up for Billy Idol in Worcester, outside of Boston, MA. They were freaking sonic and came out for an encore...

      I saw that same show (my 1st ever) in May '87 @ the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, Ca. It was just as advertised.

    Wow did their sound--and look--change in just a YEAR from their shaved head SDC days. They're so much more polished sounding, and of course, the addition of Billy is a big part of that too. But gosh Ian's hair grows fast!

      They are a criminally underrated band. Most "fans" are casual fans of their "popular" albums from the late 80's (i.e., Electric and Sonic Temple). Americans don't seem to know of their early catalogue or anything after 1991. It's tragic.

    rats, billy didn't do the solo like lycium..

    • @rictube4716
      @rictube4716 Před 7 lety +6

      That would be tricky for him considering it wasn't on the set list for the Lyceum gig.

    • @eugenemclemmont4045
      @eugenemclemmont4045 Před 2 měsíci +1

      In your defence, you must mean the Lyceum era, cause the whole song was played with a lot more emotion during that era, think they were playing it safe for Tv except Ian with the bloody whistle, was annoying at raves and the same here. Fantastic version of it in 85 either New York or Hammersmith on YT with no video.

      He does one at Donnington (80s) and comes across as an absolute bellend. Monsters of Rock. Borrows someones cut to try to fit in, its embarrassing.

      @@eugenemclemmont4045 Bellend is right !! I went to the first Monsters of Rock in 1980, and fortunately he was absent. They had Neal Kay introducing the bands (Rainbow was headlining.)
