    Nice to find information on centipede lawn from someone that actually has one and is in my neck of the country! I have bare spots and seeing a lot of runners now in April but they aren’t making roots from the stolons. Its like they are floating on top of the ground. How do I get them to make roots on the new growth?

    Hey!! I love your videos. Thank you for giving us so much information. Keep it going please!!
    I’m in Charleston. Have you ever used cotton burr compost to treat dead thatchy spots? I’ve been renovating our lawn and dethatched (3 times) scarified and overseeded! Topdressed spots that were bald or dried dead patches with that compost and in one week my grass runners filled it up!!
    What type of iron treatment would you recommend? I have some granular iron tone but it’s garden...idk if I can add it to my grass...

      Haleigh Laverty hey there! Thanks for watching! I have not, but have used compost in my beds. Thai is interesting though. I took this season off due to a sudden death in my family, but will start back at some point. I’ll check that out. I’ve only used chelates iron, but want to experiment with other types. Just be careful with centipede bc it’s way better to underdo than to overdo! You can test spot a small area and try that iron on turf. Probably fine.

      BigFish1972 the bane of my turf existence. Halsofuron (Sedgehammer )is probably best. Ortho does have a new product out in a green bottle that lots of ppl love, but don’t think it’s as gentle on grass as SH and doesn’t cover much footage. As I said in this video, I have used imazaquin ( Image) that is probably less effective, but can be applied at any time and it’s efficacy isn’t dependent on the stage of the weed. I’m experimenting with different products now, but at this point, seems that SH is winning.

      What can I put on my centipede grass to help with green/yellow spots?
      Should I add a little fertilizer?

    • @yardmama3660
      @yardmama3660  Před 4 lety +1

      Gilbert Dixon not sure what the temps are there, but I don’t apply fert ( or much of anything else ) in August temperatures. Green spots might be due to spillage of organic fertilizer or animal urine if it’s yellow in the center. Fert won’t help that. Yellow grass might be due to application of herbicides. Any fertilizer not applied evenly will leave your yard spotty. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.❤️

      The temperature in South Carolina this week have been in the low 80s with overcast.
      I haven't fertilized since April. Could it be possible my yard doesn't have enough nitrogen in those in the area?

    • @yardmama3660
      @yardmama3660  Před 4 lety

      Gilbert Dixon gotcha. I doubt it. If you put iron out and missed an area, that might cause that. I haven’t put anything out this season, but I’ve noticed two green spots. One mysteriously appeared the only time I had to hire someone to come out due to an injury- still don’t know what caused that and one more green spot on other side of yard. I have wondered if somehow ant killer could have done that. It’s really weird. Chlorosis or yellowing can occur when your grass is iron deficient or you have nutrient lockup preventing the uptake of iron. Not sure I’ve been any help. I would definitely get a soil test either now or next year.
