  • Next Monday (as one of our users asked) we will model the Carnaval Chair in Grasshopper. But before we give out the tutorial give your ideas and thoughts on modeling the chair in Grasshopper or any 3D modeling software!
We will also announce our winner for the Grasshopper Course next Monday so be sure to get engaged in the conversations!

Thank you so much for working on the carnaval chair.
Here are my thoughts on how to model it.
    1. Create an ellipse
    2. Bend the ellipse
    3. create rectangular curves on the perpendicular plane of the ellipse created by using pframes to get the planes
    4. rotate and scale the rectangles then loft to achieve desired geometry.
    5. to get the threads: simply divide edge curve of the lofted surface then using cull and list item to selct points create the interwoven lines and pipe
That was the approach I used but it just didnt feel right
And i had no idea on how to do the interlocking joinery they used to join the plywood at the bottom
Thanks so much really looking forward to the video

      Good approach Abiodun
Bending an ellipse is also a great idea but the problem is bending doesn't give you that much flexibility to model the base curve easily. Anyway other steps are thought correctly. 👍
