Filmed in summer 1958 at West Bay [Bridport Harbour] in Dorset. Parents had a mobile home at what is now Parkdean resort just by the harbour, spent many a happy holiday there. As a 10 year old I was allowed on board the ship HMS Reedham a Ham class inshore minesweeper. I have a couple of grainy b&w photos taken at the time.

Every culture has this sort of comic movie somewhere in the past. we french have something called la "7eme compagnie" (soldiers who are as hapless as these sailors and keep getting lost, ending up in all sorts of predicaments), and "Papa maman la bonne et moi". Times were not innocent, and there was a lot wrong with society then, but these funny movies reflect a lovely side of human nature.

Funny film. LOADS of familiar actors, including, I'm pretty sure, quite a few who aren't even listed at the IMDB in bit parts. The producer refused to hire Dennis Price from the radio show cast because he was GAY. What the hell does that have to do with his acting? In protest, Jon Pertwee refused to be in the film. GOOD FOR HIM. Price appeared in the 1961 film "VICTIM", which actually helped overturn an IMMORAL law in England that criminalized being gay.
Cecil Parker was my favorite SAINT villain, in the film THE SAINT'S VACATION (1941). Wanda Ventham is so young in this... and what a sweet voice!
