    Just got this kit for my 60th birthday. I have ordered the Eduard set for it too. Looking forward to building it.

      It's an oldie but a goodie. Like me you probably grew up looking at this kit in the shops. Have fun with it. Dan

      @@DansModelBench I think I remember seeing it as a diorama in a 1970's Tamiya Catalogue. Probably a Verlinden diorama. Looking forward to building mine. But I am doing the 1/16 scale Das Werk Stug III at the moment. Now that kit is a beauty.

      I just got this for my 61st birthday, and also ordered the Eduard set for it. I am getting back into modelling, after a 30 year break, and this kit now has pride of place in my stash.
      Unfortunately, the german distributor for Europe (Carson) is censoring german markings - anything with swastikas or SS markings - so my kit came without the decals. It seems that they think that trying to erase history is somehow a good thing... Anyway, I'm sure I'll tackle the missing decals problem when I come to it, after I regain some of the lost muscle memory. :)

      @@morikanti I have nearly finished mine. Just got the crew to do. I didn't use every piece of the Eduard set. I didn't see any point in using the PE magazine racks. You will hardly see them once the crew is in place.

      @@Andy.Gledhill.Models. I haven't even started on mine. I ordered the Eduard set mainly to see if I can tackle the ins and outs of this "new" photoetch thing, which wasn't even a thing 30 years ago. As I progress in the build, I am sure I will also come to understand what 'extra bling' to use and what to discard. Quite looking forward to that actually.

    I built one of those early 80's..put it on basic base and got first prize for it at the local show in the NT...quite pleased at the time..good basic kit

      Thats my impression of it too. Figures and the barrels are probably the weakest link so far as they aren't up to what we expect in a modern kit. Dan

    Very nice project Dan, hope it builds up ok. I'm building the Trumpeter version (Sd KFz 7/2) with the Flak 43 right now. Nice PE for it which looks pretty accurate from here. Those barrels will add greatly to the final look......Voyager makes nice PE sets.

      Thanks. Yeah I am pretty impressed with the Voyager sets too. Just purchased some shells off them for a later Tiger project.The guns worked out well for this half track too. Are you going to post any video or photos of your Trumpeter kit? Would love to see it. Dan

      I usually post my stuff to a web site called Modeler's Social Club Forum in the US, probably put some up there. Never done any videos , but I'd like to eventually.
      I just started the kit so might be awhile yet.....good luck, cheers, Paul

    This is still a good old kit and you will be surprised on how the old girl will go together

    • @DansModelBench
      @DansModelBench  Před 6 lety

      G'day Matt. I have really been enjoying the build and you are right it does go together really well. Tamiya were well ahead of the game in the 70's, especially when you think back to what Airfix and Revell were pushing out at the time. Got to say though, the kit is turning out to be a much larger project then I had planned for. When all is done, I will need three videos to cover the review and the build. I had expected to be finished by now, but still quite a bit to do. Dan

    I had this kit back in 1981,bought it from elizabeth street newagency/model shop in north hobart with my pocket money when I was in year 10 I remember?,wish I still had the kit still?,have the instructions in my instruction stash though but

      @DansModelBench  Před 6 lety

      Wow, that is a cool story! Always love the connections people have and the memories these old kits bring back. If you still live in Hobart, McCanns' had this very kit in stock a few weeks ago when I last went in there. Its a great kit, so grab it while you can. :) . Dan

      I live at triabunna,but I go and buy my paints & stuff from the guys at McCann's whenever I come down to hobart for my diabetic appointments?,more so than nick's hobby shop at sorell mostly?,I liked your review of the Airfix 1/24 scale Hawker Hurricane,when I was 8 years old in 1973,just after my dad died,my older brother went to melbourne for the VFL grand final between Richmond & Carlton for the weekend with some mates,& brought back the Airfix 1/24 Spitfire kit,We put it together,painted it,and it sat on top of the TV until the cat knocked it off & smashed,eventually thrown in the toybox & mostly lost or thrown-out?,I did find the hood from it recently though,anyhow,that's what got me first interested in modelling,which I've done on & off now for 45 years let's say?,My brother passed suddenly 2 weeks ago,so I ordered a 1/24 Airfix Hurricane from Hong Kong for a very good price last week & I will build it when it arrives & dedicate it on Facebook to My brother,I have always loved the Hurricane,I remember My brother telling Me once His headmaster from school flew Spitty's & Hurricane's during the Battle of Britain,true story:)

      I gave away My Tamiya halftrack ack ack kit you are currently doing to a mate that lived up around the corner when I went to college in 1983,he's also,or was into models as well,& had made a really great diorama of that 1/24 Airfix Spitfire that My Bother & myself made,with some 1/35 figures that stuff I gave Him when I went to college I remember,I have so many models at present,I will never finish them all I don't think?,a friend gave me a box of model airplanes before Xmas when She moved house & asked Me if I wanted them?,so I have been doing just aircraft now for the last 3 months mostly?,I have just finished the WNW Sopwith Snipe(late),Hasegawa Me 262 nightfigher 1/32 scale,currently working on the Revell Spitty mk.22/24 ,I remember building the Matchbox one when I was 14,a Revell Vought F4U Corsair & a 1/48 scale Hasegawa SBD Dauntless,so it sure keeps you busy eh,cheers:)

      Tony, I've added links to the aftermarket parts in the video description. I think I would list the Eduard PE as nice to have, but would most definitely recommend the Voyager gun barrels. Those make a huge different to the model. Dan

  • @ivanbuljanvanboelken4676

    When you build german aircraft do you place swastikas or not? I always do if it matches the picture on the box.

    • @DansModelBench
      @DansModelBench  Před 6 lety +1

      I build them with full marking including the swastikas. I understand the sensitivity about it in Germany and some other parts of Europe, but for me its a historical artefact. I'm certainly not endorsing anything to do with the National Socialist German Workers' Party. Dan

    • @ivanbuljanvanboelken4676
      @ivanbuljanvanboelken4676 Před 6 lety

      Dan's Van Diemens Land Model Bench I also dont understand whats all the issue about tibetan symbol of sun. If anyone doesnt apply swastika on,say, Heinkel 111,if it actualy were on rudder,that is not historicaly corect. no more, no less, thats it.
      Its all about historical facts, swastika was a german national symbol during hitler's reign. Only crazy people like 3rd bloody reich.
