DUDE! James White! Love that LP
Damn. Sick neighborhood and friends 😂 sounded great
gosh how I love the sound of cheap stuff Looking forward for your album
Well done dir. Good on ya for paying it forward.
Was up Brother Mario !? Cool Find !! A buddy of mine found a frickin vintage Supro guitar in the trash . He gave it to his Dad . He Dad sold it , then bought it back and sold it again .I got to play it and I wanted it but nobody called ole Jess :( But here's to 2023 ! I have a feeling we are going to find roadside treasure & flea market gold this year :) LOL .
I will pray the rosary three times tonight to make sure Jesse finds some truy filthy garbage. Let's hope for a sick tube amp or something!
Na na na na na na na that's cool --- na na na na na na that's not trash
Another great video. Great deep dive into fixing a snare!
You made it sound great! Your friend will enjoy this gift for a long time.
Snare sounds cool like the Meters
Really enjoy these repair videos, always impressed with the results you get
Excellent. Love it . Making the world a better place , one discarded drum at a time.
big fan of videos like these!
Another awesome save Legend. No bin chickens will be nesting in that whack tin👍
Great info! I’ve been wanting a metal snare, so now if I find a junky one at the swap meet I can get it and try to restore it with your advice in mind
Swap meets are a pilgrimage for me. Rarely find good instruments mostly my other hobbies though.
Well done mate . A friend of mine found a bashed up fender acoustic 12 string on the road , after a bit of care at a good guitar guys place it’s sounding incredible. Demo coming soon .
Yesssss…. He’s gonna Love it!
Bought and restored a vintage speedking in the last few weeks cuz I saw yours. It’s so quiet now. Used the old guitar nut trick mixing graphite and petroleum jelly and put it up in the cams bearings and springs.
Also got me an 80s Ludwig hi hatstand (with the tube legs) and reworked IT. Also very smooth and quiet now. Fun stuff!
Finally broke down and got some lithium grease. Oh well. Had to have spray stuff and everything to get to some of those areas.
Friction can be very bad if you’re not wanting it. Ha Ha! Not what she said, just true. 😂
Thanks for the video, Mario!
I’ve read that the key to 6 lug snares is very thick hoops to help share the tension. Tell your Buddy if he has trouble to go to 2.3mm at least.
Talk later, Broseph…
Can't go wrong with a speed king! If I see one for a reasonable price I can't help myself. The graphite trick is a good idea I've never tried that with a S.K. though. The restoration for my new one is going to be a breeze compared to my old one. The heel hinge is still in great condition on the new one so I avoid having to assess that region. Last time I had to ask the guy around my block to use his machining mill to drill outa new hinge point (that mighta been overkill lol), I had to weld some shizz too...TOO MUCH WORK. But the repair will probably last a few decades anyway.
Cheers
@@Mario_DiSanto My heel hinge points, though a little worn, are “good enough” in its current state, so I got lucky. Not moving around or anything, though the holes are a little enlarged, no slop back there. Did lube the things like mad though. But man, you shoulda seen the smootz I cleaned outa the spring cylinders! Wow!! Now I’m just guessing, but that might have been why it didn’t wanna spring back at all. Now it’s springy, though! Bam! DIY Bros, making stuff work again. Yeah!!
Talk later,
Chuk
Good find! I found a set of rototoms along the side of a editorial once, but I left them there because they were beyond repair. Oh well.
@@Mario_DiSanto Walkway Over the Hudson! (Not editorial. I don't know how that happened.)
Another mate found a nice little strat copy on a skip/ in the trash . Sounds great , we were going to make the jazz from the dump album
When I worked construction my crew and I found a decent starter acoustic in a dumpster, only missing a few strings and pegs, 26 min $5 fix! Some real filthy smashing on that badboy!
My main acoustic guitar is the same thing. Given to be from a coworker that was throwing it away! Definitely sounds like a free guitar though but I make it work for my recordings.
@@Mario_DiSanto if it's the 'Butterscotch Rock' acoustic I think it sounds sweet! There's a magic in acquiring something and elbow greasing it to a point that inherently makes it "yours"
@@lukegerard8656 No that was a decent guitar I borrowed from a friends. Maybe One Day has that guitar. Tetralogy of Fallot too. I forget what else my brains turning to mush.
Ahaha, I've found a pair of B&O BEOVOX S75 speakers made in Denmark at the garbage one time! Just had to change a small tweeter?!! The sit in my studio now!!! Your new snare sounds very good, congratulations!!!
I use Hendrix sleeve washers and they keep my drums in tune nicely and the two lugs where I hid my rim shots on the snare I use some sort of lug lock just to secure them
Haven't heard of those sleeve washers before. They look interesting I might have to check em out.
dig james chance too
Nice salvage job on the snare. The only thing I've ever found on the side of the road was a 70's Sansui 880 receiver which I was stoked on. Nice Gretsch leaning up near the drum kit. I'm a Gretsch fan boy myself.
Yes a new to me Gretsch! Still learning its intricacies and trying to write a country song on it. A Sansui receiver is a nice nice nice find!
Haha I have the same one
Rusty chromed steel? Rub it with crumpled aluminium foil. It buffs up like a magic trick!
Yeah that trick works great for removing the rust. I have used it to great effect in the past.
MARIO!!! Use some anti-seize on those threads bro! 😅Grease liquifies when it heats up, anti-seize doesn't. Go to see someone fixing up something that someone else threw out.
SHiiiiiet mayn your right! I didn't even think about anti-seize, that's a great idea. I practically drink that stuff when I am working on cars in the garage.
@@Mario_DiSanto 😅😅 Me too. My dad's a mechanic so that kinda got drilled into me early on.
@@scottshields3054 my dad's a mechanic too. I grew up on anti-seize and brake clean.
You took lessons from a Jazz cat, right?
@@Mario_DiSanto The way you hold the left hand stick. Check out some footage of old time Jazz drummers.
God damn i used to have one of these snares it was terrible it got really deformed and warped
How in the world did you deform it! The one I got is surprisingly strong steel.
@@Mario_DiSanto no idea! But by God it started to vaguely resemble a triangle
What's the best piece gear you have found in the trash? I found my Korg Micropreset in the trash right around my block! Couldn't believe it. Just needed a little TLC as usual.
I once found an old Casio keyboard but, stupidly, I didn't immediately grab it and it was gone when I returned. Mind you, I work for an AV company so I have access to heaps of binned stuff. I regularly scavenge old XLR connectors, the occasional video-conferencing boundary mic (great for room mics for drums), but the best thing I scored was a 2 x 12U rack which now houses my outboard gear and has my Tascam 388 sitting on top.
i actually found a bassdrum on the street a while back..! i took it to the studio and it sounds like BOOOOM, loads of resonance. i was planning to like clean it up and tune it but it actually sounds so primitive and cool in a way that i just don't want to fuck around with it. I recorded a track with it maybe i'll upload it some time
@@faroutsessions3612 let's hear it!
@@faroutsessions3612 Yeah, Don't be afraid to post it, or maybe record a short of just the bass drum. Rock on!
local music shop was selling snare heads for 1-3 bucks each complete steal. once in sarasota found a vintage wooden organ on the side of the road beautiful instrument however was with my parents at the time and they would not let me load it into their car. still regret that. after ian someone down the street from me was throwing out an e piano aa beautiful instrument unfortunately didnt have the space at the time made a promise to myself the next time i find gear i will not take no for an answer! other than that never really found anything in the trash found a very cool 'thin' snare at salvation army however they were asking $100 couldnt afford at the time
