This alternate version should have been included in the "Ties That Bind" box set. They should've had 2 discs of outtakes. I still don't understand why they didn't include the released "Bring On The Night" (from "Tracks") on to the outtakes disc. There was room for it. They could've included a 2nd outtakes disc. There is still material from The River" sitting in the can. Or they could have included alternate versions of songs.
I dont know how many of the early Springsteen bootlegs survived the decades between Asbury Park and Letter to You, but it was rare to hear any studio version of a song played the same way live - The Boss loved mixing it up in those early years and I'm willing to bet that this barnstormer got a run down on the Shore.
Some artists are so great, that even their discards are better than the material produced by most other artists. This is a very good rock song, but the version on the album is a great song. The album version makes you feel as if you lived a part of someone else's life. You feel the misery and desperation of poverty in your bones. This one doesn't quite get that across.
Agreed, and all three could just as easily have been given the ballad treatment he eventually settled on for Point Blank. This is ragged - obviously an outtake per the notes - and overall I prefer the album version but a big thank you to the uploader.
This is really good, but I'm very glad he released the smoky neo-noir version on The River. This one really reminds me of Jackson Cage, which (personally) I've always not liked. This also sounds a little bit like a bad "Because the Night". What makes the album version so great is how unique it sounds.

This is a good version. It's more upbeat but it still retains the sadness and darkness of the album version
