When you have educated and polished family like the Aligwes you will be happy dealing with them unlike the Edochies who though passed through school but thrived on native seers and believe in otomopo. So the difference is clear... the greatest mistake May will make is to go back to yul and his family. Yes, in our culture traditionally you can pay bride price and get the children to use your name if you do not want to marry the woman, and the children will be known as belonging to their paternal side even if they grow up with the mother or maternal side. If you born children but you do not pay bride price and continue to cohabit ,those children are not yours until you pay bride price for their mother. Because you have not paid bride price for the mother of your children, then the children will use their mothers surname. And when your children get married the bride price goes to the maternal side because the children belong to the woman since you never marry her.

That is Ebonyi land tradition re bride price. If The Aligwe's return the bride price to Nteje, the grandchildren cease to be called Edochie and become Aligwe. The grandchildren remain Edochie if the Edochie's of Nteje travel to Ebonyi as they did to marry and collect the bride price. There are many communities in Nigeria that DO NOT collect the bride price back once children have been born into the family as hey unify both..
