  • www.travelsignposts.com/Italy/... The chair lift up to Monte Solaro from Anacapri is an exciting and exhilarating ride - provided the weather is good! There are great views on the way up (and down) and tremendous panoramas of the Faraglioni Rocks and over to the mainland from the restaurant at the top. Ride with Tony and Helen on the descent from the summit...
"Well, it's a bit bumpy, but the view's good, and it's certainly airy enough! It's actually very relaxing, sitting here with your feet dangling. It's quite a change, after wandering about so much over the last few days."
"Let's see how Helen's doing." (Zooms into a close-up of Helen, who descends out of frame)
"The first part going down is quite steep, but then it really evens out. It takes about thirty minutes to come up, and fifteen minutes to come down. I'm not quite clear why there's this difference, maybe I just misread it."
(Pan Pipes sound mysteriously; the chair bumps a little as it runs over the pylon support wheels)
"It's a bit lumpy over the pylons, isn't it?"
"Well, here we are onto the flat bit, as you can see; when you look ahead there, see the streams of people?"
"Now, as that's the exciting bit over, we'll just - fade to black..."

I took this ride back in 1997. The most beautiful place on earth, imho.
I don't think it could take longer to go one direction than in the other, since all the seats are on the same continuous loop.

    Great video
I went on that chair lift to the top and the views at the top were simply magnificent. The chair lift ride wasn't as scary as I imagined when I went on it but yes my legs were kind of dangling out but it is pretty safe

Glad you liked it! Helen was a bit doubtful about the "dangling out" aspect on the way up, but soon got distracted by the views, and as you see, had no problems on the way down!

@@Travelsignposts Yes I did get distracted by the views when you are going up - the going down part especially the start of it was fun. The views were incredible once you have reached the summit

Anyone know what the weight limit is?

We didn't check it when we went, but In 2011 someone claimed to have received an email from the chair lift company and they said that the chair lift is designed to carry up to 250 kg (which equals 550 lbs). Don't miss it!

    Is the lift relaxing?

As long as you're not afraid of heights😉! Seriously, it's very relaxing if the weather is good (it usually is) and the views are great. You are never more than 10 metres above the ground, anyway.

Is this chairlift the only way to access at the top? Or is there a bus too?

      Hi Doris,
There's no bus, if you don't want to go on the chairlift you can only access the top by foot: the trail begins at Piazza della Pace in Anacapri (behind the cemetary) and is, obviously, an uphill climb. However, it is well marked and not overly strenuous, and can be completed in about an hour.
