- Stunning film footage of Mexico City and nearby places, filmed towards the end of the 1940s or at the beginning of the 1950s. The film shows great views of the Plaza de la Costitutión, Zocaló and its Metropolitana cathedral in Mexico City, other beautiful buildings like the Palacio de Bellas Artes as well as a number of car journeys through the city and beyond.
The original film has been motion-stabilized, enhanced and colorized by means of state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence software. It is based on raw footage, probably intended for a movie or documentary. We have deliberately chosen not to cut or edit each scene, so some parts of Mexico come into view for a longer period. You can skip scenes if they seem too long to your liking.
For reasons of copyright, the Mexican style background music is by contemporary artists, so not from the 1950s.

This is a beautiful rendition of the original film. Going by the apparent years of the cars, I would say that it is closer to 1940 because the majority of the cars were from the 1930's and a few possibly 1940- 41. Just my opinion as an 88 year old.
Las carteleras cinematográficas en los primeros minutos del vídeo anuncian películas de entre 1945 a 1946, creo que pueden ser más precisas ésas fechas. Y sí, no se ven autos de la década de los 50's.

Wow! Paseo de la Reforma era impresionante, imponente y majestuoso! ¿Qué demonios hicieron con esa ciudad tan hermosa y avanzada? La destruyeron en nombre de la llamada "modernidad" y todo por llenarse los bolsillos de dinero construyendo edificios sin ningún tipo de valor artístico, antes la ciudad tenía una armonía arquitectónica, todo eso lo hicieron pedazos para edificar simples rectángulos de acero y concreto. Hoy Paseo de la Reforma ya no tiene esa belleza, son puras plazas comerciales y edificios de oficinas, acabaron con la Ciudad de México.
Los tiempos cambian , aún existen hitos arquitectónicos que son buen ejemplo, tan solo en paseo de la Reforma existen 3 ejemplos como la torre mayor , digna representante de la arquitecta "internacional" contemporánea , la torre Bancomer con su estilo high tech donde se trata de resaltar la estructura como elemento estético y ni hablar de torre reforma , un rascacielos sin columnas y que re interpreta elementos prehispánicos como el uso del talud y la piedra ( concreto aparente ) , a muchos no les gusta pero está ciudad desde su fundación no le teme a la vanguardia y mientras siga avanzando el tiempo seguirá inovandose nos gusten o no las tendencias contemporánea
Buena observación amigo, pero la CDMX no pierde su belleza y su cultura la modernidad la alcanzó y es parte del progreso y la economía, recuerda que por algo lleva el título de la ciudad de los palacios, ciudad cultural del mundo!!!
En el 85 la mayoría de esos edificios que ves se dañaron desmasiado, sobre todo porque la alcaldía Cuauhtémoc queda en una zona mas fangosa de la ciudad, por eso en el terremoto de 2017 también la mayoría de los edificios dañados fueron es esa alcaldía.
A ciudad de México es ahora mas hermosa, si la densidad de población aumento drásticamente y el parque vehicular también es imposible que siguiera igual, si tu deseo se compliera ahra serianos como la habana en Cuba, una ciudad vieja, anticuada y derruida
@@raulportilla8449 no me refiero a que todo siguiera igual, pero hay zonas que debes mantener con cierta armonía arquitectónica, por eso existen las normas de ordenación territorial, las construcciones protegidas, etc., eso le da identidad a una ciudad y es más fácil que progrese un lugar donde la gente se identifique culturalmente. Hay muchas ciudades en el mundo que han avanzado mucho y conservan cierta arquitectura en zonas específicas, eso además atrae turismo y te da un lugar internacional. ¿Te imaginas un par de rascacielos a lado de Palacio Nacional? ¿O crees que podría construir una unidad habitacional a lado del Castillo de Chapultepec? No lo creo, a eso me refiero. Muchos de esos edificios se hicieron en franca violación de las normas de ordenación territorial, obviamente a partir de la corrupción. Hay zonas para todo, para vivir, para oficinas, para comercio, para plazas comerciales, etc. No puedes hacerlo todo desordenamente en pos de la ganancia económica.

The entire planet was a much better place to Live back then: Clean cities, NO plastics and garbage everywhere, Slim and fit people walking. Almost no crime, No car traffic, smog, less people....

@@tomascastillo4676 Just because some things were better that doesn't mean everything was better. Many things were horrible as well. Thats seeing the past with rose colored glasses. Womens rights were crap, Gay rights non existent, black people were openly discriminated/racism. Many Vaccines were not available. Cancer treatment was dismal. Cars were dangerous no safety belts or rules you died instantly no air bag no 5 star crash test nothing. Communism was very alive and spreading. There were no mass shootings. We also had more kidnappings and less forensic expertise to catch the criminal. There were serial killers, combined together getting away with killing hundreds if not thousands of people and NEVER getting caught and when they did get caught it because they slipped up and one of their 155th victim escaped. There was less security and investigation behind missing disappearances.

Los 50 fue la década en que muchas ciudades perdieron muchos edificios históricos para darle paso a la mal llamada "modernidad", otra ciudad que también perdió gran parte de sus edificios históricos fue Guadalajara para construir las plazas principales, en otras ciudades demolieron edificios coloniales y porfiristas para ampliar las avenidas, la Ciudad de México desde los años 40 hacía atrás no le pedía nada a ciudades europeas como Madrid, París o Roma

That film is so clear and vivid it's like traveling back in time; you don't get that feeling with most films from years ago. I wasn't even aware of A.I. software for film, shows how much I know. (Is motion stabilization what's used with some silent movies, to make the speed what it should be, because some of them look the way a regular movie does, not as if everyone's moving a bit too fast.)

Looks like the Zocalo had landscaping rather than the current barren gap there now. Seems better than, but Plaza Bella Artes is better now.

Was shoot in the late forties. Around 1946. You can see movie poster of Canaima (a movie) release in October 1945. So maybe 1946. Check the cars etc... I am from Mexico City.

Ahí donde dices no es el eje central, es Av. Juárez. Es la esquina con Balderas donde estaba el Hotel Regis.
Deberíamos recuperar la plaza con esos jardines, qué precioso sería que todo siguiera siendo más verde.

This City has the same size as the province of Utrecht the Netherlands. To bad I've only bin on the airport of Mexico City to transfer to Puerto Vallarta which is also a very beautiful city.

Paseo de la Reforma se ve tan diferente, creo que nunca había visto casas ahí solo locales comerciales, oficinas y torres de acero y cristal, que lástima que el "progreso" destruya lo verdaderamente hermoso.
En ciudades tan grandes, es incorrecto que en zonas tan céntricas haya casas, lo preferible son edificios para un mejor aprovechamiento del suelo.
@5:30 you can see the old building of the department store Salinas y Rocha and the infamous Hotel Regis by the Alameda (to the left) all of which were destroyed during the earthquake of Mexico City of 1985, and in which hundreds of people would sadly died in these buildings.

I saw another video here on youtube with the footage of the streets of Paseo de la Reforma and such, but it was labeled as it being from 1939. Seeing the car models Id say its around 1940s.
People are saying this is 1945 NOT 1950. This was Mexico's hey day my great grandmother was wealthy during that time, many Mexicans were doing well due to the economy doing so well but bad policy and corruption hurt the Mexican economy and it tanked and remained sluggish and stagnant for decades. But now Mexico and its economy is making a huge comeback thanks to great policies by AMLO a great president cleaning out house.

No existía la moda o los outfits como en la película de la Onda Vaselina? Es diferente lo que muestra las películas como "Vaselina" a lo que era en México. Los chavos vestidos con chamarras de cuero negras y las chicas con faldas y vestidos bien bonitos, cuadrados y floreados, en esa época las mujeres ya vestían pantalón como "Sandy" en Vaselina o "Marylin Monroe" mientras bailan rock and roll. Así como muestran en las películas de los años 50's como "Vaselina" por ejemplo. Ahí retrata toda esa moda, colores pasteles, rock and roll, coca cola, etc. Toda esa onda "asthetic" de esa época.
