Nice! I never even thought about trying that!! 😁 That's so cool to see that this actually works!! 🤩
Those fluorescent lights sure do consume a lot of power, so that easily explains how you managed to cut down the wattage significantly! 😉 Nice machine too! I can't wait to see of these videos of this!!

Surely you could just combine a set of wires in appropriate fashion of 12V and another in 5V (using a step-down converter) and you can achieve it all through DC.
Unless I'm missing something otherwise, an average (idle?) draw of 230W seems rather high for what seems to be powering a simple processor board and a screen consisting of alternating moderately bright diffused LEDs. It'd be interesting to see if neglecting the rectifier would reduce the total power draw even further

I had a few DC-DC step-down converters but i didn't think about using them at the time, If i ended up doing that, I would've been able to save a lot of power, as those inverters aren't very efficient. Yes, the led's do use up a ton of power, if none of them were lit, the machine would only draw 130W. If they were all lit, it would be 230W. Keep in mind, the marquee lights were on when i was measuring so that might be why the power draw is so high in general.

Sure will! Because I replaced the board in the shooting Star machine with a board from a toy story, the sound is the same as my toy story.
