bought my bf a new keyboard for his birthday. He was going to throw out his keyboard and I decided to try to clean it.... his keyboard looks so much worse than this "distaer" 🤣

This is what I imagine the keyboards at school libraries look like inside. They are always so oily on the surface that I started bringing my own.
The whole cleaning process are probably 3 times more expensive than the price of the same keyboard brand new

probably not he literally just used dish soap, a brush which you can get at michaels for like $5, and an old toothbrush

Always reuse whatever you can, there's no shame. Buying is easier than cleaning. But that means you'd have to throw the old keyboard, which will end up in a landfill. Plus, it's mostly made up of plastic, which isn't easy to recycle.
Never seen a litter box that looks like that before, but you did a great job cleaning it!
all nastiness aside, we used these EXACT keyboards in my elementary school computer lab

I still have this exact keyboard. Got it about 2013-2014 and it's still working. Got a mechanical one now since it feels so much better but I still have it around in case I need it one day.

I swear cleaning keyboard is one of the nastiest yet therapeutic feeling I've done. Definitely worth doing it regularly 👍
U could've just taken the keyboard apart and washed the backplate instead of cleaning it with a brush and everything without the possibility of damaging the pcb

Not a TOC kind of cleaner here but, man, keeping things clean make them last longer, and improves self-steem in some cases, saves money, keeps from disposing things just because they are a little dirt. Maintenance is gold.

Standard old Dell keyboard. I still have one at home from my dads old Pc. I myself also had the slightly more luxurious equivelent from the era made by saitek with blue backlighting on silver keys.

he uses one at 3:33. But because he holds the bottle in upside down, the liquid air goes out instead of the compressed air. So what he did here was useless actually.

I cleaned a keyboard like this before and am still using that keyboard, I had literally no experience or the tools to clean it so I tried finding CZcams videos where people cleaned keyboards and well there was a ton of videos about it. The thing is though, they all had modern tools while my house didn’t have any tools to clean a keyboard whatsoever, and I didn’t want to annoy my parents to buy me the tools needed lel. And then I found this video and well you didn’t use the tools that are used to well clean keyboards ( no offence ) and that really helped me so I searched through my entire house to get a not used anymore toothbrush, a tissue and something that I don’t know what even is. So thanks for the detailed explanation! (by image)

Mine been with me for 4 years, fully functional, but some keys stopped working, I tried to clean it, it was a mess, I cracked it open, cleaned the keys and cleaned the case, set the membrane aside and other mechanical stuff, and once all is said and done

The way to use a compressed air can is to pulverize it straight, not downwards or upwards, straight ahead. If not it will become liquid.

Eh. I've used worse. Incidentally, for anybody thinking of doing this themselves for a clean, when it comes to the keys don't bother brushing all of them individually. Just soak for an hour or two, put them in a jug and stick ot under the tap to get rid of the extra dirt leftover, then stick them all together in a tea towel and shake them about until they're dry, if there's any dirt left then you can sweep it off but most will be fine. Its like an hour less work for the same result.

I actually began using that VERY same keyboard model a few months ago, it was never cleaned and once i decided to clean it.........it was just a tad less dirty than the one in the video, and the keys werent that bad, but it indeed had quite a lot of hairs.
