Mr. Trevino is such a great character. Makes golf instruction easy and enjoyable with great stories thrown in for good measure. A true legend of the game.
I wish Lee would take the commentary seat again, so much knowledge and color also the stories of the past golfers on and off the course and the shots they played. He’s the best in tips.
Nicklaus said Trevino was the smartest person he knew in golf. Old school, self taught, never had a formal lesson, amazing man. A lot like Hogan, sheer determination and work ethic made him great!
Tremendous amount of world class bunker information in just 4 minutes...thank you so much for posting this....sounds like you want to practice to be a holder.
Lee is the only suitor on the net who has shown one in how to play out of a bunker that has no sand - we have those kind of bunkers here in Scotland! I watch blogs of bunker tuition/s, but these guys are playing shots out of freshly raked bunkers!
I completely agree! I’ve scoured the internet and he is the only one that has ever given instructions on hard pan/no sand bunker shots. I live in a desert city where 90% of the courses have no sand. Great teacher Mr. Lee Trevino!
holder or flipper lol ... Lee is always entertaining... as are a lot of the previous generation greats. sure do miss that. it's not the same today... players are a lil more subdued lol
Whereas Lee Trevino always credits others for various capabilities (Moe Norman for ball striking, and Gary Player for bunker play in this video), he himself was a terrific ball striker and bunker player, as I can make out now.
No one in this world could teach this master new tricks, as he is that good, he brightens up us all when ever in a mood/s I love this guy, like you I could listen too him all day, He IS a fabulous golfer even though now he is old and grey, So strange in seeing him this way, but he has never changed in his joyful self, we can't change our ways, I wish him good health! He is the master in this whole golf swing, watching his tips makes me want too sing, as this man has taught me everything! He is part of my family, like a puppy I want too squeeze, As I want this puppy too be inside of me, so much Knowledge, yet has no degree, But we ALL rate him as the best there will ever be! Lee the golfing world love you, but I guess you knew that, I watch your video's and hope to copy cat! Take care Lee, love you sooooo much!
"When you flip the club you´re adding bounce to it" isn´t it the other way around? As you close the clubface you reduce the bounce. The more you "hold" the club open the more the bounce is brought into play?
great lesson, but i live in a humid location with more than enough rain every summer. I see nice fluffy bunkers maybe twice a year. All other times it is damp, compact shallow sand. Not sure they can be played the way this clip teaches.
There are no great bunker players that "flip" for the simple reason that flipping negates the tremendous advantages of the bounce built into the club,Bounce allows the club to glide in the sand without digging. Flipping would kill that advantage. Bernhard is not flipping in the background at 3:40 BTW. He uses vertical hinging and is properly utilizing the bounce of the club. Only time you would "flip" in the sand would be in a fairway bunker where the objective is to pick the ball clean and get max distance for the club being used.

He’s a narcissist
@@stevescontriano860 😂😂😂 as he's giving full credit to Gary Player for his bunker skills.
Exactly

Love this guy. Could listen to the Tex accent all day. Would always make you laugh.
This personality made golf great.
I could listen to Lee talk all day lol
I Agree 100%
amazing
Thank you,I can learn golf watching and listening to this man,he explains it to where you can understand it and learn
The old holder is back. Thank you!
Lee explains it like it should be explained....simple and to the point with an example....best teacher of the game
This is gold to me! Thx for the upload.
Lee knows his shit and does the best job at explaining it.
He is top 3 in instructional videos and tips, just genius in his execution of simplicity when explaining. Awesome character.
Agreed

Gotta love old Lee. Notice that Gary Player taught him to play sand shots in '68. We need to be a "holder," not a "flipper."
Sure you can!
Fried Egg. Bunker shot.
+John Haynes This was the one part of the game he had over Jack. Lee was always a better bunker and wedge player than Nicklaus
Player is the sand master...
cgasucks , SEVE my friend. Seve!
holder or flipper lol ... Lee is always entertaining... as are a lot of the previous generation greats. sure do miss that. it's not the same today... players are a lil more subdued lol
Legend....
Not many bunker players that were flippers; he's right, with the possible exception of Billy Casper; great video
Whereas Lee Trevino always credits others for various capabilities (Moe Norman for ball striking, and Gary Player for bunker play in this video), he himself was a terrific ball striker and bunker player, as I can make out now.
These old timers sure could play shots and learned the game without any technology. Not robots like today's players
Great hands

Man im a Slider Like Chi Chi, i always felt the slide to my left in bunker shots.
Badass AF

This was great!3:46
really easy way to help address the ball further back a few inches. the angle you start with is the same when you finish.
I.e. not back in the stance but clubhead not close to ball at address
is that bernhard in the back of the bunker doing the opposite of what lee is suggesting? 3:40
Like Lee said: “Player was the best!”

Merry Mex.
Gary Player is not a holder. He uses whatever technique he needs at the time.
Bernhard Langer in background😊
Langer hitting shots in the background lol..
only when chipping
Only in the PGA can you trust another golfer to take practice shots in the bunker behind you. 3:33
At the end watch Langer get in a flip! (Back left of image)
So Luke Donald is not a flipper?
Seems like it...but it's working well for him...
See his hips rotate ????
no phil is hinge and hold, watch his short game video /watch?v=IH1oYiBQGjI
phil is a flipper
Love Lee but every good bunker player today flips

Freddie Couples was/is a flipper...his technique is almost 100% opposite of lee's...and Freddie had/has a crazy short game.
good player... terrible teacher
