    Marianne..thank you for sharing. I love that you shared your struggle with the background. When I was teaching I always felt it helped students to see that even a seasoned professional artist still struggle and make mistakes and have to step back and rethink things out. They need to understand that painting is a forever evolving and learning process….we should all be continuing to push ourselves to grow as artist no matter how long we have been an artist.

      It's so so true! When you train yourself to see past what you think colours should be, the world becomes this fascinating, colourful place. Just don't ask me to choose an off-white colour for the walls, I'll be obsessing over test cans for days because I'm so sensitive to the undertone!

You’re not just showing us your skills, but you’re also teaching viewers how to improve their own skills. And your work is GORGEOUS! You’re an amazing teacher. Thank you! I definitely look forward to your future videos. Question: Why did you utilize, for the most part, one brush size for this size canvas? I don’t know if I’d have the patience to do so, so I’m extremely curious. Again, well done with this piece. 🙂

    • @MarianneVanderDussen
      @MarianneVanderDussen  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Pamela, wow thank you so much!!! You authentically made my day! In terms of the brush size, I used anywhere between an 8 to 12 flat or filbert when I was blocking in the larger petals, then would size down to 4s and 6s when doing some of the modeling and sculpting, finishing up with detail brushes if needed. On a painting this size I didn’t really do a lot of finicky details.

    That is absolutely strikingly beautiful!! The depth and dimension is so lifelike that you want to touch it!! Thank you for all of your very helpful information!! It is so difficult to learn how to draw/paint both the shapes and colors that you see in a reference image. I literally just sketched out some flowers and leaves that I liked on my shower curtain. I kept reminding myself that although the individual petals do not look like what I imagine they should, as a whole they all work together 😊

    Fabulous tutorial, Marianne. So many time-lapse videos are just a demonstration, but you narrated and explained your steps and thought process so clearly. I use watercolours, never tried acrylics, but I may have a go now I've seen this.

      Yay! I truly hope that you do give it a go! Acrylics are wonderful. Oil is now my predominant medium, but I'm gearing up to do another large scale floral in acrylics, starting in a few days. I wish you great success with trying acrylics!

      It’s my favourite way to mix black! A lot of artists have favourite black combinations, but as long as you have a brown and a blue, your options are endless 👌

      Wow. Loved this color theory .. I’m a cosmetologist .. I thought my color theory came naturally because I don’t remember ever receiving instruction .. but after listening to this it occurs to me that I painted in acrylics as a child and took instruction at a studio . Talk about repressed memory! Lol
