- This amazing track is located between the small South Island towns of Reefton and Greymouth.
Napoleon Hill is considered by many as New Zealand's best 4x4 track. The history, the scenery, the unique challenges make for a fantastic day.
Please make sure you get in contact with Robyn and Malcolm before starting as the track is very weather dependant. They're amazing friendly people who have loads of local knowledge.

"Have you got fuel money?" "Let me out" 😂😂😂😂😂
What an absolute treat this was.
🤣
What a wonderful and charming group of people and cars. I really like these videos.
I watch them with my son and then we pack our swags onto the roof of our Lada Niva and go to the Carpathian Mountains.
This is what its all about. Sharing a passion
Our pleasure! I like these videos as well.
amazingly beautiful place to rove! exactly what those lovely old boxes were made for!
😄😎 I agree 👍🏼
Man Brad is soooo cool. What an amazing guy he is, so funny, and a real asset to your channel. Range Rovers are definitely more capable off road that your series. Great channel, from Berlin!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 cheers mate. I'll let Brad know he's funny 😁
Screw work, I’m watching this instead.
😀😀😀😀😀
A big out 2 al l you bloody kiwi's out there, I got the popcorn if you got the big screen thanks 2
Hi Hayden, thst was absolutely one of the best drives you have taken me on, thanks very much, you all seemed to have a great time, that tunnel was awsome, drive safe and keep having fun, bedt regards from a ex ChCh lad now living in Melbourne
Cheers Les. It's an incredible track for sure.
I live basically right next door to this track, amazing what we take for granted
Indeed. We're so lucky here in the South Island.
What an incredible track. Reminds me of the land before time.
Haha yeah for sure.
By far the best video of Napoleon Hill track ive watched....
Thanks Mark 👍🏼
Loads of time went into this. Big thanks to Ben and Brad, who did a lot of filming for me.
Absolutely amazing piece of NZ history, inaccessible for most of us. What it took back in the day to put that route in is staggering , I hope the gold was worth it. Nice video well filmed. 😀
Glad you enjoyed it Chris.
Gold miners were built different
It's definitely not a challenging drive, but BOT what a view !!
Muchas gracias. Fue una gran pista 😀
That sneaky "subscribe" sign in the bush cracked me up! 😂
Cool vid guys🤘
😉😊😊😊
Fantastic trip
It was! We all had a blast!
Great video in a incredible location.
Many thanks!
That was one beautiful track.
It sure is. This won't be the last time we do this track !!
Wow where do I start!! …. This is incredible the best vid yet!! 👍😎
Cheers mate. It had a very Jurassic Park type vibe to it. Super fun
@@hayden_jones mate wow how lucky are you in these adventures! I need to book a holiday to come wheeling with you over there!!!..👍👍
What an amazing route, great video 👏
Many thanks!
awesum guys, takes me back when i had my landrover as a young man belting up rivers hunting ,back in the good old days
Bloody good times. 👍🏼
Hell Haydon.. What a magic video... Fantastic Bugger...
I cannot get over the amount of water you Buggers have in NZ. And with the magnificent amount of water obviously the Lush and beautiful vegetation...
That V8 sounds so sweet, Too Lekker.. But my Heart belongs to the Red Series 1 😊😊😊
Thank you for a Lovely Video Boetie...
Cheers 🍻 From Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
Thank you so much. Yeah, we're very lucky with all the water / green vegetation. So many tracks to explore.
Dan's red series 1 is Legendary and Brad's V8 sounds incredible.
this is crazy! Never seen anything like it! Hello from Sweden!
Hello there. Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss anymore incredible videos
I am subbed with the bell since a few days ago when i found your snow-video! :) @@hayden_jones
This was a fantastic trip, love the caves. Good to see Stig back on the bonnet!
He's baaaccckkkkk !! 😁
your drives continue to help motivate me to build my s2
Get it done !!!
I'm glad I provided some motivation for you.
Life can pass us by pretty fast
WOW. Gorgeous. Expect a Dinosaur to wander through any moment. Hello Dad !!!
Awesome video, Hayden. Almost as if those tunnels were made for Landies! Thanks for taking us on the trip 🙂
Thanks so much, Andrew 🙏🏼
Did you choose "mud, ruts & snow" or "rock & Grass" on your electronic terrain selector? Did you have your sway bar disconnected the whole time? How much modification have you done to your suspension? 6" lift and airbags? Amazing to see what these modern 4wds can do.
🤣😉😉 just pull that red lever back and you're away laughing !!!
I found your channel a few weeks back as I just purchased a Land Rover Disco 1 with a manual transmission myself. I follow a few of you Kiwis on youtube as you guys have some of the best off roading and scenic views there is. I spent a week in Auckland when I was 19 and absolutely loved it. If I ever make it back there I'm definitely going wheeling up on these epic trails you all have there. Great videos by the way, cheers.
Welcome aboard! I'm glad you enjoyed the ride along.
Been meaning to do this track for a few years now. Suppose I’d better get my arse into gear and go do it!! Sweet video mate!
Definitely do it !! It's incredible.
Beautiful natural beauty, all clean and an experience to stay fresh in mind.
Having functional low cost vehicles, easy to maintain, enhances the fun ,
We agree!
Awesome vid man! What a place to go to!
It really is Jim. Cheers 👍🏼
Enjoyed that a lot. Reminds me of places I have been here in Oz. Landys rock!
Thanks, Mate. Landys are awesome, eh
Is that a new stig? Great drive mate loving the scenery 👌🏼
It sure is 😁 He's back!!
Those tunnels remind me of something, a bit like gold cheers.
What a track. Awesome stuff Hayden. Definitely need to get to the South Island in my landie one day. The RRC sounds so good too 👌 so worth the fuel cost Brad!
Cheers mate, yeah Brad loves it
Awesome Hayden. Cheers from France.
Thanks 👍🏼 😊
Awesome vid mate. What a track!
Cheers mate
What I like about vids like this, they vindicate how I feel watching so many American vids .....where they are screaming Wow man this is so difficult, I'll need difflocks for this...!!! and I,m thinking all of my standard Series 2's and 3's would have done this track no problems...maybe made a bit more noise about it and spun wheels a bit more, but the capabilities of even Series ones are completely forgotten by the Americans. I,ve owned 7 Series Landrovers and now getting older my wife and I need our comforts so I have a Jeep Wrangler CRD JK unlimited, and my wife has an Isuzu Dmax AT 35.....for the serious stuff we bring out a Unimog U1300L ..We sold our Pinzgauer a couple of years ago. I drove Series 2 FFRs like the one in the Vid when I was in the Army (72-87 Royal Signals).
Just found your channel!! Absolutely love it. Watching from Australia but from NZ many years ago. Forgot how beautiful NZ is. Hope you keep on going. Watching every video now!
Welcome 🙏🏼 glad to have you here 😊 We've got plenty planned for 2024 🙂
@@hayden_jones yay!!
I drove through those tracks in a series 2a back in the late seventies - early eighties, possuming, deer and pig hunting and dredging for gold. It is still a great place, but not as free and easy to access as it was back then, when rechargeable chainsaws were not even dreamed of. Was good to go back with you, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
It's absolutely incredible
Best one yet. special place, for sure. cherish this as we've lost most of it ( in Oz ),as the N.P. locks everything up & us out. I've had a few Landies & always loved this stuff. cheers.
Couldn't agree more! We know the rules, look after the track, and we'll get to use it forever.
Glad you enjoyed the video 🙏🏼
Keep the trail bikes out. They led to our demise.
@@hayden_jones
Been through Napolean Hill on bikes a couple of times as have many others, numbnuts in 4wd with big tyres and heavy throttles do way more damage, you can see that down off the Waipuna river on the way out of there and many other sites on the West Coast
trailbikes ripped the guts out of the sandstone trails in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. They truly did not give one f*#k. The parks closed all the tracks &, of course, the bikes just rode around the gates & carried on. A work colleague, a volunteer bush firefighter said that ever since we had been shut out it was impossible to get the fire trucks in to fight bushfires. I'm not making this up. I wish I was.
@@Kickaha83
Man I love this country, it's so beautiful and so many people here never get to see it. Also, amazing editing. It must have taken hours to edit out all the Land Rover break downs with 5 of them on the trip ;).
🤣🤣🤣 that comment gave me a good old laugh.
I swear to the 4wd gods, not one break down .... on this trip 🤣
@@hayden_jones very much tongue in cheek. I love old Land Rovers. One of my favorite memories of my grandfather was him putting his bushshirt over the spare on the bonnet and letting me ride in it once we got off the paved road to where he was taking me fishing. "Don't tell your mother". I'm a Toyota guy these days but I grew up with Series Land Rovers. I'm curious, what are your thoughts on the new Defenders?
Hahaha, don't tell your mother. Classic grandad.
I'm hoping to test drive / make a video on the new defender later this year.
I'll reserve judgment until then.
@@hayden_jonesnice, looking forward to that video then. Great channel mate. One of his classic stories was the time he was on a tight track and came around a corner to a family in another Land Rover. He turned off the track to avoid the collision and rolled 3 times downhill off the track. His two dogs bolted but turned up together 2 days later at his house. He drove it home with a bit of a dent in the roof.
Cheers mate. Wish I could speed up the growth, but it's tricky with a full time job and a young family.
But I'll just continue doing what I'm doing 👍🏼
Absolutely beautiful!
This trail reminds me of one that I often go with my friends. The whole time it follows and goes through the stream bed.
Greetings from Croatia!
Glad you enjoyed it!
XR country.....
That was Awesome mate, well done
Thanks 👍 glad you liked it
Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Andre
That's awesome
I agree 👍🏼 🙂
Algorithm suggested this video, o am so glad it did, what a real gem of a track I didn't even know we had in new Zealand, gonna bucket list this one to take the wife on
It's a gem alright!! 💎
You'll love it
My first viewing of one of your adventures - so impressed with everyone and everything involved. I just hope that Discoveries are also welcome, but I’ll have to check out some more vids to find out. 😉
Cheers from my D4, here across the ditch!
Welcome!!
Definitely go watch some more. 😊
Great looking track.did they film jurassic Park there, kept expecting a rapter to run out .😅
That's what we all said! 😆
Awesome camera work and editing! - brings back memories of my several trips down (and up!) this track with Auckland LR Club many years ago. Keep up the good work with your very Kiwi approach - honest and heart-warming :)
Thank you so much. Really appreciate the comment 👍🏼
yet another fantastic video, thanks for sharing
Cheers 🍻
In a word Epic. Thanks guys.
Thanks so much !!
👍👍👍 Great video!
Thank you! 👍
This channel got recommended to me by youtube, I don't regret it. Its an epic adventure like Jurassic Park, except without any dinosaurs! 🦕🦖 But the old Rovers were kind of mimicking dinosaurs's sound!🛻
Thanks and welcome to the channel 👍🏼
@@hayden_jones Thanks. ♥️ With love from India🇮🇳
Mike from Wales UK. Great trip and loved the Landy’s. A lot different than Green laning in Britain - but just as wet as Wales. Ha.
Cheers Mike. Yeah just a bit different from your average green lane in Britain 😀
What an awesome adventure! And to do it with your Dad!
Thanks. Yeah, I love taking the old man with us.
Rumble in the jungle!
Stunning scenery, great video.
And every vehicle came out in one piece! (I hope!)
I hope so too!
😄 no issues at all. Crazy when you think about how old they all are
@@hayden_jones A good day out. 👍
Ahhhh Kiwi 4WD lovely.
😁😍
Awesome track, drove this last year and had a blast, good to see you guys enjoyed yourselves too
😄
just found this and was I impressed 👏 really enjoyed it, I've actually downloaded it so I can re watch it again and again, out of interest my I ask what devices you used to record it please, as the footage is so stable within the landy over the bumbs etc
I'm happy you found me!! Be sure to share it with others who you think might enjoy it.
I use a GoPro hero 12 and GoPro hero 8. The 12 has incredible features that eliminate the bumps 👍🏼
So cool! looks like a Jurassic Park expedition. Thanks for sharing this trip
It honestly felt like Jurassic Park was filmed there. Such an incredible place.
Fantastic video, makes me want to start going 4 wheel driving, thanks for sharing..
Go for it!
Cheers Mark 👍🏼
Приятно путешествовать вместе с вами хоть и не знаю английского))) Привет с Урала!! Машины у вас интересные!😊
Series 11a/RR L322 enthusiast here. Very similar volcanic geology there to that of Taiwan & Japan where we mostly film. Tips for producing a more 'cinematic' video: whilst your handheld cameras work well in this scenario, see if you can pick up a proper movie camera such as a second-hand Sony FS5 with 18-110mm servo zoom and/or a fast 12mm prime lens. Don't go down the mirrorless DSLR/gimbal path as you'd be far better off with a DJI Osmo Mk 111.
Thanks for the advice 🙏🏼
I think the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 would be perfect for your scenario. It can be mounted and controlled remotely from a smart phone eg: pan/tilt, etc and offers 10bit colour.@@hayden_jones
Wish I could have been able to do something like this with my dad.
You are a lucky man.
Great video.
I'm extremely grateful that I can go on these adventures with my dad 🙏🏼🙂
Stunning
Thank you! 😊 It's just incredible through there
Fantastic, must add this to my must do list if im back in the SI again anytime..... Love this country!!
It's pretty bloody good 👍🏼
It's always bloody cold. No fun living here
Such a cool vid , great stuff , thanks for sharing
No worries. I'm glad you enjoyed it
The STIG from Top Gear is your HOOD ORNAMENT! Hahahahaa! This is great!❤
😁 He's part of my landy now.
@@hayden_jones Jeremy Clarkson may not be Happy with that!🤭
Thanks nice post , lol at that subscribe very unique, excellent show of New Zealand 4x4 track
Thanks so much 🙏🏼 I'm Glas you enjoyed it.
best one yet
Thanks 👍🏼 😊
Old Land rover still looks nice and strong.
💪🏼 💪🏼 💪🏼
Beautiful trip, easily rivals the incredible places we have here in the western USA. You guys have only scratched the surface of what these old Land Rovers can do in your videos. I've been daily driving and seriously off roading these since the 1980's here in the USA, doing everything from the Rubicon trail to Moab and the Hammers, all in a leaf sprung series Land Rover that I always drive to the hard trails and home. You would be seriously shocked at some of the obstacles I've driven up / through. My current daily driver is a 1958 series I that looks very stock, right down to what's left of the original paint, but packs LS V8 power, lockers and my own 32 spline front and rear axle upgrade in the original axle housings. (24 spline stuff has proven too fragile for my usage) Love seeing the red series I here!!
Thanks for the great comments. Yeah, Dan's Series 1 is pretty cool !!
Yes it is, not many of us actually driving these, sadly, mine is my daily transportation. What's it got for power? I'm guessing not the original 2 litre ! @@hayden_jones
Wow, what a great location for a ride whis my E-MTB , it's dream. Regards from Germany Toby
Stunning trip and video mate, appreciate the effort put into making it all
Thank you so much. And cheers for the support on Patreon. It means a lot 🙏🏼👍🏼
Just came across your channel this morn. That looked fun. Great footage.
It was! And welcome to the channel. 😀
Awesome content, keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
Nice one mate 👍🇳🇿
Thanks 👍
Awesome!
😀😀
awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice video, i think my Samurai will struggle up this.
Thanks. It's not a difficult track. There's the odd steep part, but overall, it's pretty easy.
Yip, i subscribed, and liked. Now im sitting here wishing id brought one of the series 2A's that the Army was selling offyears ago cheap
Cheers 👍🏼 yeah it would have been nice to get a few
Unreal! Do you think a next gen raptor would squeeze in between those caves? 😮
Yeah, it'll be tight but definitely doable.
Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
By the way! What camera are you using? I am rebuilding a 92 D1 5door and i want to start vlogging about it. Your content looks crisp! You are going to blow up this channel soon. Cheers
I use both a gopro hero 12 and a hero 8. But I filmed this in 1080p (I normally film in 4k)
I need some $$ to upgrade my computer so it can handle the huge files when filming in 4k.
@hayden_jones great quality nevertheless! I use davinci . But if you get the pro verson that you need to pay for you can upscale video to 4k making 1080p look great but cut down on harddrive space and rendering times!
Iv had my stig standing about the kitchin now im puting him on my landy
Awesome trip Hayden!
Such incredible landscapes!
Is this the original Stig ,
or Stig 2 “son of Stig”?
It's stigs long lost brother "kiwi stig" 😄
@@hayden_jones
Lol!😂👍
I know that rover v8 tippity tappity noise anywhere.
It's funny how all of the land rovers sound different. one has a whiny transmission, some of them have different pitched engines and some just sound different!
Great observation!! No 2 engines are the same. In fact, they're all completely different.
@@hayden_jones makes sense
I had a 1974 classic range rover MANY years ago ... that one is in AMAZING CONDITION !!
Is it a restoration ??
Partly
Sweet..
Very!
Helo from Norway ,Great video and adventure .How many km did you drive ? (ham driving Toyota LC 120 overland with Maggiolina Rooftop tent . Sorry 😞
A lot!!
I can't wait to visit Norway one day.
Awesome videos. Do you think a snorkel is a must for these tracks?
It all depends on the weather / river level. It's not a must to have a snorkel when the rivers low.
Which V8 is in the Classic?? Sounds surprisingly VERY good! Love all the old Rovers though. Hard to beat a classic. ❤
Hey there, the V8 is a stock 3.5L but it has extractors and and one less muffler!
Lovely people at the house .... did you get the Tea and scones ? ....well worth it
Very lovely people. No tea and scones for us. Maybe next time 🙂
Beautiful track and great videography. Question: is the track wide enough for a unimog to pass through?
Hmmm I'm not 100% sure you'd get a unimog through... the last tunnel is pretty tight.
You can go around the last tunnel, you'd want to drive something else through and check it out first, I dont think it would
Yeah, that's true. I forgot about that.
Me to😊
Awesome track. Do other Euro’s get invited from time to time? 😎
I'm sure we could work something out one day 😁
Lol listen to the old winey differentials and deisil vs petrol they crawl well but I reckon the Toyota 84 land cruiser swb is the best strongest offloaded
❤
How much fuel did the rangie go through. This would have been hundreds of dollars worth in the stage 1 😅 great vid as always.
Thanks. Ummm, I think he spent a small fortune 😬
Well worth it though 😁
