BTW, they have different solar cells and the amount of light received is why you see the difference in tilt on. Try them both in a dark room, you may find them now identical. (I have both and found this to be true and saw what you saw) lastly, the 5000U LCD is a tiny bit closer to the glass and the cases are slightly different dimensions - not just the case back. Also yes, the resins are different, the polyurethane on the 5000U will not get shiny when rubbed over time and it is the same material that covers the module. I own one high-end watch that cost me a large sum. The truth, however, is that I prefer an inexpensive watch. Less expensive watches grant me more satisfaction to own. I really don't know why that is, but it's the truth. The Casio G Shock is a good example of a very cool watch that is satisfying to own and fun to collect.

They are great tough everyday watches , I have the full metal g shock , absolutely love it , never worry if I knock it and I’m not going to get robbed . The normal man in the street or a multimillionaire can all wear a Casio G-Shock. That’s my favourite part of the appeal of this watch 👌

the automatic light won't trigger if the light level is above some level so that might make it seem intermittent in some lighting situations.
Got it 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. Its an underrated Square :) But if you know, you know ;)

There amazing watches. It has all the charm and good looks if that original dw 5000 but so many functions that for me at least, it could halt my watch collecting habit!!

@@anima201 well, I'm afraid I can't tell you, but you should never buy a watch to impress others. Most won't even bother or know, let alone the ladies decide if your're interesting or not..
The one thing that turns me to the 5000u is the metal core unlike the plastic 5610u. In other words it has metal strap pin lugs, unlike the plastic ones on the 5610u. That alone makes the extra cost justifiable because, too me, the strap pin lugs are the weakest point of any watch and plastic is a no no.
Also the screw down metal case back and softer rubber strap makes it far more water resistant and comfortable to wear in my opinion.

Well said, it's why I went for the Frogman over the Rangeman.
The Rangeman, despite being a very popular Master of G watch, has a weak resin lug design prone to breaking easier than other G-Shocks.
Quite sure the spring bars are the weakest link...
Good video. The auto backlight on my GW-5000U works perfectly, If yours is still under warranty, you should ask for a replacement. Also, the watch has a light sensor. The auto backlight function won't activate if there's enough light.
There is no extrinsic value because its not a brand for making others envious. However the intrinsic value comes from G-Shock being typically oversized and cartoon like. Pair it with the composite bracelet and for $400 you have a rare understated design with bulletproof durability and no ongoing service costs.
the GW-5000U is a nice watch. You can actually fit the combi bracelet on this watch and is one of my favourite configurations.
I wear it like this and absolutely adore it!

The "Casioak" has not come close to eclipsing the squares. Many enthusiast do not care for them.
I like it, but for me the dial is boring and anonymous. I got several screwbacks but they should offer this one with the 5610 dial too.

It is. To level it up further I got three and modded them with steel and titanium bracelets+case. Now Looking like 2k watch.
Is it possible to replace the Mineral Glass with Sapphire Glass?
Only when the background is very dark the light will turn on… i think if you do it in dark room it will work well

The auto light doesn’t turn on in light places.
I would say the full metal construction would make it more durable than a plastic body. There are many reports of the resin decaying. With this it’s like any other metal watch with basically a rubber bumper.

All screw case back g-shocks are $250+ now just pure greed
They used to be inexpensive like the dw5600c but not anymore.
Any expensive g-shock you find today will have the screw case back. All the way up to the $4000-5000 titanium versions.

Hmm. I’m not really a G Shock connoisseur, but I think this is the standard box that all of them come in right?
The one he got here is the GW-5000U-1ER which usually comes with this thin can, while the one that comes with the leather box is the GW-5000U-1JF. They are basically the same, both models were made in Japan, just came with different packaging. It just has to do with distribution codes and released in a different region.
Only G-Shocks intended to be sold in the JDM will come in those fancy leather boxes.
I bought the cheap coffee (5610U) AND the expensive coffee (5000U) just...because. Actually, I bought 2 5000Us...one for me and one as a graduation gift for my son.
Well I've bought more than 10 GW-M5610's and only 2 GW-5000. Still prefer the GW-M5610...

Why
The GWM -5610U is better here’s why: cheaper, cheaper, cheaper than the 5000
Less bulky and lighter as well.
First we need to define "best" of all the G-Shocks so we can quantify the criteria. A screw caseback or metal bracelet is debatable. Multi Band 6 is also debatable outside the 6 zones. The solar charging I think is a universal quantifiable desireable attribute. Everything else after solar is subjective.
If you have an radio signal app, Multi-band 6 can work in those unreachable countries too, very similar to how Bluetooth would.
A G-Shock with a screw down caseback also comes in a metal case, which is objectively better than a resin one.
As for the metal bracelet, that's definitely debatable, as I personally don't like my watches with it, but I know a lot of ppl that do.

I want to know if there is a G-Shock that looks like the GW-5000U, but it has all three features:
1. Tough Solar
2. Multiband 6
3. BLUETOOTH 👈👍
I think this model is overrated. I have one. I don't like the thickness or weight. Who cares about the screwback??? You can't see it. I always wear my 5610U instead. Same module.
This is reassuring. I love my 5610U but feel like I'm missing out on something.

@@JeffC-fq1beI had the opportunity to try on the 5000U yesterday, and while I could tell it was higher quality than my 5610U, it wasn’t sufficiently higher quality to make me want to pay what it cost to buy it. I instead paid a slightly smaller amount for a Bluetooth metal-face Casioak to diversify my collection. It’s not as functional as the 5000U or 5610U, but now I have a G-Shock to wear when I want to dress a little sharper.

I have about 10 GW-M5610's and one GW5000-HR that I use. Most worn is my GW-M5610BA on a combi1.
I have this watch and 12 other G-shocks, I would have to say the Rangeman is the King of G's

I just bought Rangeman and I am thinking to return it and buy GW-5000U instead. Rangeman has resin case with proved weak logs that broke.
@@bestopinion9257 That's the exact reason I didn't buy a Rangeman and never will.
The GW-5000U is definitely a better choice, especially if you don't need ABC sensors and just need a solid solar + atomic digital watch.
