- Bryant Park is the busiest park in the world, but few visitors know about the trap door, the secret escape hatch from an underground room, or the ruins from the 1800's. Here's a list of my top 12 secrets of Bryant Park.
If you're interested in taking a free tour of Bryant Park and learning even more, I highly recommend it:
bryantpark.org/programs/park-t...
Also, the free movie I referred to in the library at 4:24 talks a lot about the history of the park, the old reservoir, and the library. It's really interesting.
If you liked this video, be sure to check out my 12 hidden secrets in New York playlist, with secrets from Times Square and Central Park: • 12 HIDDEN SECRETS in C...

4. The trap door by the carousel
5. Every activity and event is free
6. Free Wifi throughout the park
7. Power outlets are all over the place
8. Free, clean, amazing public restroom, consistently rated one of the best bathrooms in New York

Thanks so much! Hope you get a chance to go over to Bryant Park and see some of these for yourself. Have a great weekend! -Brian
Thanks for your videos of New York. I first visited NY in 2004 and I stayed for 50 days. My second visit was in 2008 and I stayed for 40 days. I have been saving up to go back to NYC. It’s taking me a while to save because I want to stay in NY for 90 days. I truly believe I was a New Yorker in a past life. For the meantime I watch your videos of NY and it makes waiting more bearable.
You're welcome. I feel so lucky to live here and experience so much of it. :)
I live in NYC and I didn’t know this stuff!! Thanks for this
Yeah, I had to do a bunch of research to put these secrets together. I learned a bunch, too! -Brian
Love Bryant Park. Every time I go to NY, I go there to find my inner peace. Just love the vibe. When I went one day for a chilled walk, I immediately knew where to head to: Yes, Bryant Park! Thank you BP and NY!
Thanks for your comment! I totally agree. I'm usually more of a Central Park fan, but Bryant Park definitely has its own unique vibe and sometimes I just need to head down there to get my fix. :) -Brian
The attendants of public restrooms are very sweet . Inside filled with fresh flowers just like hotels !
That's right! I forgot to mention them. Thank you. Those people are the nicest!
You are such a wonderful kind person! Thank you for sharing all these wonderful treasures with all of us. Keep up the great work!

Great video! Would love to meet up and see some cool spots in the city with you. Moved here 7 months ago. Go to Bryant Park weekly and never knew any of those facts...awesome!!
Glad you liked it! We're out in Utah for the next few weeks. We'll be back in the City for a week at the beginning of May and then off traveling again. Are you living in Manhattan? We'll be on the Upper West Side. -Brian

What a delightful and informative video you've made. Thank you.
Thanks, so much, James! Hope you have a great day.
So fascinating! I loved visiting Bryant Park when we were in NYC, especially at Christmas, but would have never known about these facts. Love that you can spend the day working there with free wifi and charge stations!
It's the best. I've gone down to the park on plenty of nice Spring or Summer days to work. And if you end up getting too distracted by the people in the Park, you can just go over to the library and work in the Rose Reading Room. -Brian
Thanks for sharing! When I lived on the Upper East Side and worked in Manhattan in the early 1970s Bryant Park wasn't anything like this and we all headed to gorgeous Central Park which still is, but I would love to go to Bryant Park now and eat at that beautiful restaurant! The city has done a phenomenal job restoring the Library and the park, fantastic job! Reminds me now of the beautiful parks in Paris with flower gardens, trees, a fountain and those French cafe tables and chairs as well as umbrella tables! If I lived in NYC again, I would be hanging out at Bryant Park all the time! On my bucket list now! Marvelous job!
Yes! Bryant Park is such a fun place to hang out now. I've heard stories about it the 70's and I still can't believe the change the park has gone through. Hopefully you can get back sometime and join in on all the fun activities there. -Brian

Really interesting hidden secrets, cool facts about the park! Will have to check it out when we visit!
Definitely! This is one of our favorite parks because of all the events, so we go down quite often, especially in the Summer. Have fun! -Brian
Great video!
Thanks!
I like that. Knowledge is power. They take good care of the library and the park.
For sure. So much respect for the Bryant Park team.
It' s history just made a video about the aquaduct and reservoir.
Thank you very much! Great video❤
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thank you. Was in NYC last year. Went to the free yoga at the park. Amazing area
We've done free yoga in Bryant Park a few times and it's always a great experience. Glad you were able to do it.
So interesting, thank you
Thanks for watching!
i love bryant park! i used to frequent there when I briefly worked in the area. i didn't know most of this stuff, very cool! should have taken one of those tours.
Most of these secrets didn't come from the tour, at least not the one I took. The tour talked a lot about the history of the park, its design, and interesting facts. But definitely worth it - the history is fascinating! Thanks for watching! -Brian
Always look forward to your videos. Hope you are all doing well.
We're doing very well, thank you! I always look forward to your comments. :) Hope you're doing well too. Take care, Donna. -Brian
You make great videos! I'm visiting NYC for the first time in September and your videos have really inspired me to go looking for the unusual places, rather than just the touristy ones. Thanks!
That's so great! September is a fantastic time to visit New York. Let me know if you have any questions as you continue to plan your trip. I'm happy to help - especially if you plan on doing things outside the normal tourist route. -Brian
Perfect Little Planet Thanks Brian, I am doing SO much research that I feel I've already visited NYC and your videos have been instrumental in helping me feel at home. I can't wait to visit!
I'm glad you feel at home here. :) I sure do. I hope you have a great experience!
Thanks. Well done!

NYC is definitely a fun place to visit and there's so much interesting history for being a relatively new city (compared to Europe!). Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@PerfectLittlePlanet You're a very good tour guide. I'm from Vancouver Canada originally, I never many of my cities hidden gems. Now I'm just outside Washington DC. I'll check out your other video's, don't be surprised if I comment :) thanks for replying, as so many creators don't. P.s. If ever going to Toronto or Vancouver msg me I'll give you the inside tips.
This little community is our favorite part of CZcams, so we love chatting with people in the comments. My wife and I both respond, so sometimes you get two! :) We went up to Vancouver in 2017 and loved it! We're looking at Toronto in March or April. We'll let you know if it ends up happening for sure. Thanks! -Brian
Wonderful video....
Thank you!
This was very interesting, makes me want to go there.
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you can get there soon. It's such a great park!
this is amazing dude!
Thanks so much!
no problem dude, we love what your doing!
Awesome video
Thank you!
I knew about the library being underground, the free events, and the bathroom. The rest I had no idea and will check those things out the next time I am at the park. If you walk past the statue that's right by the library in the park, you can also see all the way down 42nd Street which is kind of neat as well. I have never been inside the library yet, but I plan on visiting. They were closed the times I have been in that area. Great video.
Glad I could share some new things for you to find next time you visit. Yeah, I highly recommend visiting the Library. It's such a pretty building. -Brian
For New Yorkers it might sound a tad bit cringeworthy when a foreigner says "I wanna go to NYC!" But for someone who lives in the opposite part of the world, going to NYC was really an altering sensation for me. There was something about the city that was so lively and it instilled certain kind of energy in me. I went there twice and I still ache to return. Maybe next time, with this channel's videos as my guide.
New Yorkers have a big ego - we think this is the best city in the world. So we totally understand when people say they want to visit. "Of course you would. New York is the BEST!" I totally agree that it has its own energy and it gets into you when you're here. It's hard to explain, but you feel it. Happy to share tips and recommendations when you start planning your next trip! -Brian
Love the rosary!!!
Do you mean the Rose Reading Room? If so, then YES! I love it too. :)
I love this! Just unsure how safe it would be to work on my Mac there! lol
Totally fine. I've got a MacBook Air and I've worked in Bryant Park plenty of times. Enjoy! -Brian
amazing tidbits. robert moses is everywhere!
Seriously, everywhere. Learning more about the parks in New York and they really are his legacy. -Brian
Very informative. There's a live stream of the park here on YT and I was wondering what the big deal was with it, besides just being a big grassy area to decompress. Thanks!
Haha, I've seen that live stream. I think it's good to check if you're planning on going to watch a movie in the park or one of the other popular events. It gets really packed, so you can check to see how busy it is before you head over. -Brian
Fun to watch before covid videos
Feels so weird to see crowds and no masks, right?
Need a video about lesser known free parking spots in Manhattan too.
That would be great info to have out there! The key would be nabbing one. Haha! Thanks for the suggestion. -Isa
Thanks for sharing. i will be there in 6 days and although i have been to Bryant park before i didn't know about some of this hidden secrets. thank you again
You're welcome. Have fun exploring the City! Hopefully the weather gets better for you! It's crazy right now. -Brian
Perfect Little Planet , I hope so, bad weather tends to ruin it a bit. Got some walking tours planed
Thanks again
Thank you
You're welcome! :)
So interesting! How do you know all of this?!
I do a LOT of research. :) I love learning new things. -Brian
How lucky that we live in this beautiful city!!!!
I know right?! So many great things here. Our quality of life here in New York is so much higher than when we live other places. -Brian
Nice little video
Thank you! :)
John Stosell's "$2 million bathroom" video brought me here. This place is beautiful; I hope to see it one day.
It's pretty great. Super useful when you're hanging out in midtown and need to use a restroom. -Brian
Cool!!! I love right near Bryant Park, and never knew some of those things!!! Some I did of course others like the secret trapped door etc… were cool new facts. Will look more closely next time I ‘m out front waiting for the 42 crosstown bus. :)
Yeah, I can't tell you how many times I've been to Bryant Park and didn't know about most of these things. With it being such a small park, I really didn't think I'd be able to find any secrets. I was pretty excited once I started doing the research. :) -Brian
Perfect Little Planet cool
Nice video Bro
Make one about the liberty tower
Liberty tower? Or Freedom tower? I think Liberty tower is a residential building now. We are planning on doing the Freedom tower though, highlighting the observatory deck (it's so cool!) -Brian
Perfect Little Planet freedom tower
I just subscribe to your channel
Thanks! Welcome to our little family. :) And yeah, great suggestion. We'll definitely make a video down there. -Brian
I go to Bryant Park often and I'm from CT and never knew any of this. Thanx bud!
Thanks, Dante! I grew up in West Haven. Where in CT are you from?
Oh im in Bridgeport bro. keep the vids coming!
Amazing video keep up the great work! Such an underrated channel
Thank you so much! I've got lots more to edit so I'm planning on keeping it up for the foreseeable future. :) -Brian
Sweet video. I'm also in Manhattan
Awesome! You can tell your friends about these secrets next time you go watch a movie in the park. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend! -Brian
as a native nyer, i figured i would know most of these. turned out i knew 1/12 for both this video and the central park one. Great job on this, will be visiting them soon.
I learned a bunch while I was doing research for the video, so I'm glad I found a few things that were new for other native New Yorkers too, and not just new for tourists. Thanks for watching! Hope you have fun on your next visits to the parks. :) -Brian
That library is where the filmed the day after tomorrow I’m pretty sure
And the beginning of ghost busters
I love the place I wish to visit as soon as possible
Bryant Park is one of our favorite places to hang out. I hope you can visit soon! -Isa
I miss Bryant park😞 and yes that would be weird lol your so cool.
I don't think that's weird. Bryant Park is AMAZING and there's always so much to do. -Brian
Very interesting. Thank you How do you research for these fun facts?
So much research! I read a bunch of blog posts about the Park - "things you don't know" "you'll never believe what's hidden..." - stuff like that. Then I take a tour and learn from the official guides. They love talking about the park, so if you ask questions after the tour, they'll usually share even more interesting things. Then I just compile everything I've learned from all the different sources into one video. -Brian
Wow that's awesome. You and Isa are so cute and resourceful. Love your postings!
NYC Cool 👏👏👏👏🍀 from Northern California
Thanks 👍
been going to bryant park religiously to ice skate in the winter time and I’ve never known most of these hidden secrets!
Yes! Skating in Bryant Park is the best! Glad I could share some new info with you to look for on your next visit. :) -Brian
Make one for Prospect Park!
I'd love to! Thanks for the suggestion -Brian
I thought you would come up with facts like:" when it rains, bryant park actually gets wet " and facts like that, but you actually came up with some really good secret facts about thhis park. quite a lovely video!
Glad I didn't disappoint. :) Thanks for watching.
You never do! Keep it up!
One secret missing is that Bryant Park was the site of America's first World's Fair in 1853, The Crystal Palace.
Oh wow, that's interesting. I hadn't heard about that. Thanks for sharing! -Brian
Spent many an hour in Rose reading room back in H.S. and college, BEFORE the restoration. The Map room is my fave tho. My college prez, and a H.S. classmate, have both been president of NYPL.
That's really cool. I don't know that I've ever been in the Map room. Is that on the top floor?
I tried filming in there (secretly) and got caught sadly, the woodwork in the library is just so amazing inside!
Right?! It's weird to talk so highly about a bathroom but it's really amazing! -Brian
My favourite place in NYC.
Such a gem.
Best bathrooms around!
So great, right?! People think it's weird when I tell them to go check out the bathrooms but they're awesome. -Brian
Very cool vid.
Sincerely,
The Bryant Park Vampire
Ps.
(Had no idea it was the busiest park in the world---this makes me more famous than I'd thought!)
Weird I've never met you. I guess I need to hang out in Bryant Park at night more often. :)
Well, I'm not recognized by the park authority as an official entity--- in fact, these days I cant even step into the park for more than a couple of minutes at a time without getting harassed by the park security(they hate my guts).
Anyhow, just look my name up on Google, there are plenty of articles about me in the city news papers.
All the best,
D.
London plane tree is actually a hybrid between two tree species, the American sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) and the Oriental plane tree
Interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing!
I was happy to Visit New York in 2017 and I visited Bryant’s park and a girl was giving out books in the park told me it was a cemetery,I like Bryant park more than Central Park ,cause there’s no animals and no smell of animals leftovers, but I love animals but from the vision a space between me and them 😇😇😇😇😇
Haha, I love animals but definitely not their smell or their poop. :)
Is that the library from "the day after tomorrow"?
Yup. Same place. Minus the destruction. -Brian
One secret of Bryant Park is that management provides no indoor shelter for the park staff except for a tiny cramped house, and treat the employees horribly, a fact that is hidden behind all the free events, movies, lawn, rink etc.
Oof, that's really too bad. It appears to be such a well-run Park, I assumed management would run their own teams similarly.
ive def been here but knew none of this!
I know, right?! When I was doing my research, I learned so much! Thanks for watching! -Brian
back in the 70's it was an open air smoke shop - you could get a decent sized joint of good quality for a dollar. You could do one on your lunch break right beside the library and no one gave a damn.
Yeah, I heard it was dubbed "Needles Park" back then because you could get more than just a good joint. -Brian
I❤️ NY
It's the best!
Are all those free places you showed still free today 2021?
Yes. There are fewer events because of Covid, but Bryant Park's mission is to provide free events to the public, so they won't start charging for anything.
What happened to the black pyramid in the kids park in Central Park? I can’t find it anywhere...
I don't remember the black pyramid. I know the Ancient Playground just north of the MET has all the brick pyramids the kids climb on. Is that what you're talking about? -Brian
Bryant park is beautiful
It's one of my favorites!
So, that's where the ghost in the beginning of Ghostbusters came from. 🤔 👻 🚫
Ahh, I didn't make that connection. Haha, nice one! -Brian
Perfect Little Planet I actually got to go into the stacks once. Its pretty fascinating. They look nothing like the movie though.
I'm currently binging your road trip vlogs. I love the videos. Keep up the great work. 👍🏼
Thanks Shannon! That's really cool that you got to go into the stacks. I'd love to take a tour of the library. I bet there's so many interesting things to see in there! -Brian
