I do. I prefer starting with the synth strings rather than the drums.
It sucks that radio stations always cut off the extended intro, which is in fact the original version off the album
I don't understand why the radio stations play cut versions of a LOT of songs. Even videos have parts cut out. Listen to the official video for Air Supply's "All Out Of Love." They cut out a few measures in the beginning, with the awesome strings. Why? To save 10 seconds of our time? It makes no sense.
The single edit actually starts off with the drums.
Shane Dangers y’all have to remember there used to be a time when three minutes was the standard radio song length. Shorter songs lead to more commercials and thus more revenue....at least that was the mindset of past programmers. The songs from the 50s were all about 2 and 1/2 minutes long.

The synth in the intro gives me goosebumps. It's hauntingly beautiful. THIS is the only version I listen to whenever I play this song. The atmosphere of the intro building into the main part of the song is perfect!

as a matter fact this was the version that used to be played at the radio station i have listened back in the 80s,,definetely the best one .
Careless Whisper was the very first song my (second) wife and I danced to. We were at an office party. We went as friends and co-workers. We left engaged. I can't tell you how much I've missed her since her death in 2006. Careless Whisper is a pleasant and welcomed reminder of one of the best nights of my life. Thanks George and Andrew.

You know, this song was produced by George Michael himself. I think this is much better than the legendary producer Jerry Wexler's mix, which is an early version of 'Careless Whisper' in 1983. He will be truly missed. RIP.❤

Me and my good friend Dave (Air Force Buddy from over 40 years ago) talk about once a week on the phone. One of our current topics is the butchering of old songs with radio edits (something most of the youngins would not understand). This song was one that came to my mind today. That beautiful intro was basically unheard of when it came out 40 years ago because of the demon "radio edit". Other songs butchered by that process - "She's Gone" by Hall and Oates, "Miracles" Jefferson Starship, "Blinded By the Light" by Manfred Mann, "Sara" Fleetwood Mac, "Smooth Operator" Sade and those are just a few!!
