ಈ ದಿನ ಬೌದ್ಧರು ೮ ತತ್ವಗಳನ್ನು ಪಾಲಿಸುವ ಉಪೋಸಥ ಎಂಬ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ಆತರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ವಿಪಸ್ಯನಾ ಧ್ಯಾನಿಗಳು ಈ ದಿನ ತಮ್ಮ ಗುರುಗಳ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಧ್ಯಾನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಹಿಂದೂ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಗುರುಗಳ ಜೀವನ ಚರಿತ್ರೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೆನೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಲವಾರು ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಾಸ ಪೂಜೆ ಎರ್ಪಿಡಿಸಿ, ಹೂವಿನ ಅಲಂಕಾರ ಹಾಗೂ ಹಲವು ಸಾಂಕೇತಿಕ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಗಳು ಅರ್ಪಣೆಯಿಂದ ವೇದವ್ಯಾಸರಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಂಡದ ಸದ್ಗುರುವಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪೂಜೆ ಪುನಸ್ಕಾರಗಳ ನಂತರ, ಗುರುಗಳ ಕೃಪೆಯ ರೂಪಿಯಾದ ಗುರುಗಳ ಪಾದಪೂಜೆಯಿಂದ ದೊರೆತ ಚರಣಾಮೃತವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸಾದದ ಜೊತೆ ಶಿಶ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಹಂಚಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಯಾವ ಗುರುವಿನ ಮೂಲಕ ಭಗವಂತನು ಎಲ್ಲ ಶಿಶ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಧಾರೆಯೆರೆಯುತ್ತಾನೋ, ಅಂತಹ ಗುರುವಿನ ಸ್ಮರಣಾರ್ಥಕವಾಗಿ ಈ ದಿನ ವಿಶೇಷ ಮಂತ್ರಗಳಾದಂತಹ ವೇದವ್ಯಾಸರಿಂದಲೇ ರಚಿತವಾದ ೨೧೬ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳುಳ್ಳ ಗುರು ಗೀತಾ ಮಂತ್ರದ ಪಠಣ ಇಡೀ ದಿನ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರ ಜೊತೆ ಅನೇಕ ಆಶ್ರಮ, ಮಠ ಅಥವಾ ಗುರು ಪೀಠ ಇರುವಂತಹ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವಾರು ಭಕ್ತಾದಿಗಳು ಸೇರಿ ವಿಶೇಷ ಭಜನೆ, ಕೀರ್ತನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹೋಮಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ದಿನ ಗುರುಗಳ ಪಾದಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಶಿಶ್ಯರು ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತಾವೇ ಗುರುವಿಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.ಎಂದಿನಂತೆ ಬರುವ ವರ್ಷವೂ ಗುರುವಿನ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ಹಾಗೂ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಬದ್ಧರಾಗಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಶಿಶ್ಯರು ಸಂಕಲ್ಪ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.[೫] ಈ ದಿನದಂದು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಪಠಿಸುವ ಮಂತ್ರ ಇದು ಗುರುರ್ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ, ಗುರುರ್ವಿಷ್ಣು, ಗುರುರ್ದೇವೋ ಮಹೇಶ್ವರಾ । ಗುರು ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ ಪರಬ್ರಹ್ಮ । ತಸ್ಮೈ ಶ್ರೀ ಗುರವೇ ನಮಃ.ಈ ದಿನ ಬೌದ್ಧರು ೮ ತತ್ವಗಳನ್ನು ಪಾಲಿಸುವ ಉಪೋಸಥ ಎಂಬ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ಆತರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ವಿಪಸ್ಯನಾ ಧ್ಯಾನಿಗಳು ಈ ದಿನ ತಮ್ಮ ಗುರುಗಳ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಧ್ಯಾನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

On this day, Buddhists observe a practice called Uposatha, which observes the 8 principles. Vipassana meditators meditate on this day under the guidance of their guru.
The biographies of Hindu spiritual masters and their teachings are remembered and honored. Vyasa Puja is performed in many temples, flower decoration and many symbolic offerings are offered to Veda Vyasa and the Sadguru of the universe. After the puja punaskaras, charanamrita obtained from Guru's foot worship, which is the form of Guru's grace, is distributed to the disciples along with prasada. Guru Gita Mantra with 216 slokas composed of Veda Vyasa is chanted throughout the day in memory of such Guru through which Lord imparts knowledge to all the disciples. In addition, many devotees organize special bhajans, kirtans and homams in places like ashrams, mathas or Guru Peethas. On this day, the disciples dedicate themselves to the Guru by worshiping the feet of the Guru. The disciples make a resolution. The mantra specially recited on this day is Gurubrahma, Guruvishnu, Gurudev Maheshwara. Guru Sakshat Parabrahma. Tasmai Sri Guruve Namah.
