    Thanks for that. Made something similar for an ADS-B receiver on 1090 MHz and it too worked out very well. Your video has given me a few ideas on how to do a neater one and tune it.

      Hi Brendan, it’s still up on the mast and working as well as the day I installed it, thanks for the comment.

    "Low SWR over a large range" usually means theres a lossy component somewhere. Put a 10dB attenuator inline and the effect will be even greater. There should be a pronounced resonant point to any low-loss antenna.

    I think you just save my day, for the last two to three days that I struggling the SWR on my X7000 antenna and with your video maybe I will build a single antenna for 1.2Ghz Thank you for sharing and congratulations for your work.

      Thanks for the comment, I have had a fascination with antennas since I was a little kid, the ability to project radio energy out into the ether, wow.

    Hmmmm... Unless you have some way to verify precise electrical length of each section, phase errors will be cumulative and result is some serious beam tilt! In any case it will be a very narrowband antenna from a gain perspective.

    I didn’t design the antenna I built it from an online article by a ZL group which shows all dimensions in detail. My aim in the video was to show construction methods and give tips to aid completion. I don’t know why the original article has become hard to read but I have uploaded my copy to Google Drive, see link.

    What would be the best antenna for omnidirectional TV reception USA ??

    • @Jonny10001
      @Jonny10001  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hi, most ATV repeater antennas are horizontally polarised so it’s not so easy to receive 360 degrees. Best to find out where your local ATV repeater is and aim a directional antenna in that direction on the amateur band it transmits on.

    would that copper sleeve work as a choke for most 213 on different bands ?

      It would Graham but you need to resize it to suit the band you intend to use it with.

      Hi James, you would need to do the calculations to scale it up in size for that frequency, I couldn't help you with that.

    Looks impressive How do you adjust swr ?

    • @Jonny10001
      @Jonny10001  Před rokem

      Hi Paul, the original design called for varying the length of the small wire loop at the very top of the antenna. In practice the bandwidth of the antenna is so wide that a small loop that will fit under the top cap is all that's needed.

      @@Jonny10001 Thank you, I’m guessing an inch’ish of the centre conductor will be adequate?

    This is a frustrating video to watch, Its ruined by the lack of information. There is no description of the measurements. Its the typical CZcams video ,that fails to provide the essential information that the builder knew but did not share.
    The link at the end works but its unreadable.
    You canot determine any of the measurements. It appears to be the forumlar but modified for the velocity factor affected by the epoxy reson. Thats a lot of work for who ever built the first one and had to build subsequent models to find what worked with reson in a PVC pipe. Its a pity that no one has preserved the details. I have never been able to track down the original with a readable pdf copy or otherwise.

      Hi Ram Jet, a viewer recently ask about making the antenna for a lower frequency. When preparing his reply I looked up the original article and found as you did its unreadable. I have printouts from when I made the antenna so I will scan them in and create a PDF. The net says I can deposit it on Google Drive and list the link here in comments.

      @@Jonny10001 These days with Chinese VNAs so cheap you don't have to calculate anything. If just finished a collinear on the ADS-B band and I cut and trimmed all the sections on the VNA, then soldered them together. I get a mid band return loss of about 30dB without trimming. This antenna is not for outdoor use so it isn't encapsulated. It just gets taped to a window when I want to use it.
