Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Capriccio italien, Op. 45
Gewandhausorchester Leipzig
Kurt Masur - conductor
About the concert
To celebrate his 80th birthday in 2007, Kurt Masur led “his” Gewandhaus Orchestra in a special gala
concert. For his birthday concert, Masur, currently principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France, chose a varied, celebratory programme with works by composers highlighting his conducting career in the United States, France and Germany. Abounding in energy, alert as ever, Masur has been untiringly lending new impulses to the entire orchestral repertoire. From 1970 until 1996 he did so as Gewandhaus Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, a position that has almost come to be identified with his name. He is still Conductor Laureate of the ensemble; the fact that he chose the orchestra for his birthday celebration expresses his gratitude and respect for the orchestra that accompanied him during momentous and troubled times. Kurt Masur had an eventful life - he was famously swept into politics as a peacemaker when the Berlin Wall was about to fall.

Bella orquesta ❤
ABSOLUTEMENT FANTASTIC.
YES.
Bravo Herr Masur; Farewell, Beloved one.
Saudades eterna.
Happy birthday Maestro Masur, and thanks for the beautiful music!
Yes, happy birthday mr Masur! I am not 80 yet, only 77 and will not come to Italia again, living up in the north. But with your music I am transported to a trattoria near a plaza. The sun is setting, but it is still warm. In my mind I can hear this music.
Sorry, this uptaking was made 2007, and now Kurt Mazur is dead. These late publishings can make us commentators seem like fools.
The seamless transitions in this performance are wonderful. It shows a true appreciation for the material.
What a fabulous performance!!!
It is indeed! Thank you for watching! We have more performances from the Kurt Masur Gala coming up!
Bellísimo ❤, gracias.
Fantastical and phenommenall
C'est magnifique!
Belíssimo ❤👏👏👏👏👏👏
One of the two best out of many I have heard....
It's good that Tchaikovsky's brother talked him into that trip to Italy. Otherwise this piece would have never been created.
God bless your sole , rest in peace maestro Kurt mazur 🙏👏🌹
lovely, poised, and balanced.
Had the privilege to attend several of his concerts with the New York Philharmonic. Visited his grave in Leipzig. He did so much for music there, as well as the Mendelssohn House in Leipzig.
Bravo
We missed you Kurt .
Какая благодать , Пётр Ильич !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
electrifying!
Fantastic. The best recorded version of this piece is by Antal Dorati on Mercury Living Presence. I can’t remember the orchestra. It could have been the Minneapolis or London Symphony. The performance kicked ass.
