  • Back in the day, the only way to get luxury and a genuine premium vehicle was to step deep into the mid-size or full-size category. But those days are long gone and today, even subcompact crossovers can be super-luxurious. The offer of such models is generous but somehow, it all comes to a couple and the GLA is definitely one of them. Now updated for 2024, it takes everything to the next level. With updated styling, interior and electrified powertrain the logical question would be: is the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA the best entry-level SUV you can buy?

I have owned the CLA / GLA series, since their introduction to the line. Each one has gotten progressively better, but my latest GLA 35 AMG, was a beautiful little car, but very overpriced, and fully loaded came close to nearly $70,000. As most Mercedes the good amenities became expensive options. After this vehicle I went to the eqs series, all electric. It was a total failure then went with the electric eqb. That too was a nice car but very overpriced. I went back to Volvo after two decades, and by far it is much more car, most definitely more safety options, has a great Phev range for electric, and can go to gas engine option with a range of close to 600 miles. Mercedes like Tesla is trying to keep unions out of their South Carolina plants, too. And they are adamantly denying that! Boo Mercedes. You are not the top dog anymore!

I did not care for the model either, because I always had the C-Class the e-class or the s-class. I gave it a chance during their introduction in 2018, and was mildly impressed. My 2020 to 2021 was a new generation of the same vehicle. Big improvement in headroom legroom an overall quality control. The AMG line gets pricey but it is fast and materials are good. It is a real I Turner for a small SUV. An alternate I found to it what's the Volvo XC60. Better priced, better safety features an overall swedish safety design, although it gets knocked down because it is manufactured in Sweden, put the main part of the headquarters it's located in China. I have had Volvo since 1989 and the quality has not suffered. As a matter of fact I would hit the new Volvos against any new Mercedes, especially if you are considering electric. The 2024 XC90 PHEV I currently own is magnificent. Great mileage on electric range about 40 to 45 chargeable with level 1 or level 2, converts of the gasoline engine if you run low on power, and has an overall range between both motors of about 500 +. Excellent fitting and usage of materials, fabulous ride and handling, I need to know the current model is 5 + years with minor changes it still has held its looks. How do you say Volvo safety for life?
