In WW2, torpedo bombers were lost at an astonishingly high rate.
WT may actually be correct on this.
Strangely enough, while both sides had similar losses with torpedo bombers, they had opposite reasons for much of the war. American bombers were more often shot down by a carrier groups CAP fighters for most of the war, while most Japanese bombers were taken out by AA fire from ships

From a "pilot" on simulators: after the drop, I would advise to try to escape in straight line, very very low on the deck, full power on, in a slight turn just to avoid your own torpedoes explosion...but keep your energy at its maximum.
No sharp turn! It bleeds out too much energy and makes you an easy target
However yeah the real problem is that you're alone here...escaping is almost impossible
Setting up runs using islands as cover is the most effective way i found to get torps off and survive more in naval. plus it feels super fun flying low between all the islands!
I was just about to comment this. The islands are a godsend when torping or using 50. Cal's for straifing runs

That's how I did it. if its an ocean map I forget torpedoes unless i can find some other fliers. Islands = Free Kills, and sometimes an escape.
depends. with low tiers and low level crews. maybe ! but if you face better enemy crews you are dead. and big ships have long range AA
Pretty sure thereâs planes with like more torpedos, they could be fun to try. Could maybe try dauntless dive bombing too. Also maybe try flying with with OddBawZ, Benny, and/or others to solve the single aircraft problem??

If it didn't take 650 sp to spawn any kind of aircraft, it would be spectacular. Tbh the only way to really set up this scenario would be with fan community custom battles and setting the air spawn to ridiculously low, or running Naval EC and getting into a spawn killing match against the opposing team.
The Mauler offers 3, at a higher BR, but if you want to hit BBs that ain't a problem.

Try shelling the enemy airfield. It removes the range issue
Ive found that if you turn after dropping if cuts too much speed and makes you an easy target. Instead find a ship near an island, and approach from the opposite side of the ship (island, ship, then you.). Drop the torps, fly straight over the target and dive behind the island to hide from AA. Doesn't always 100% work but survivability increases a lot.
Same plane but the high alt bombing with the AN-Mk1 AP bomb is probably the most inefficient way to bomb BBs but it's fun as hell to see half a battleship's crew get taken out with 1 bomb. Especially with only 97.5kg of explosive mass.
Phlee, you should try put the AM-1 in the US tree. 3 torpedoes on one plane

In a custom, we did a ship versus planes, and while my teammates were distracting the ship, I came in in sim mode and sent a torpedo straight into him. I lived too! The next 4 attempts at the same thing weren't as successful lol, but I torpedo bombed a dude in sim controls and lived!
To be honest my favorite thing to do in this game is bomb ships with planes. The problem is that the AA has aimbot and it's easy for them to focus on a single plane rather then multiple

Pretty sure their ratings (assuming you mean Battle Ratings [BR]) are a function of uploaded statistics, based around different metrics. Likely this like kills, survival duration, bounces (and what calibers), etc... although it could be as simple as a "kills to deaths" ratio lol
I picked up the lingo (ie ammo types) just from watching along with deductive reasoning haha

@@Bornst3ll3r with the state of naval you usually get mixed battles in rb, so even if you play as the U.S you will still face the U.S. Phly was shot down by an enemy Helena in the first run.

The poor man's version of this video could have been made with one of the B6N2s from the Japanese tech tree. Their br is around 2.0 so they are extremely cheap to spawn in and the improved torpedo it gets oneshots everything at around 3.0 to 4.0. It is still tricky to use but it is very fun when it works.
Naval enduring confrontation chilling with the boys doing torpedo runs is the way to go.

It is one of my favorite bombers in the game.
Planes in naval are hard indeed. Speed is your best friend, so when torpedo bombing try to pass over the target after you drop, rather than turning. If you are going fast enough on the initial run, you can out-rotate the AA guns by passing over the target. The side you approached from will be blocked, and the side you pass over will take time to acquire you again. Also, all of your speed is preserved. Islands and land cover are also great ways to set up attack runs. In general, try to not make drastic heading changes as it bleeds too much speed. It is much better to retain your speed but make smaller, micro-adjustments. At great enough speeds, these micro-changes of direction can throw off non-proximity fused flak AA effectively. Flak AA, however, you have to track and dodge manually. I recommend following the larger tracers, and after each salvo, change heading slightly. Rinse and repeat, the more Flak AA tracers coming towards you, the more you move.

Should try the enduring confrontation naval battles. Its pretty fun with friends for aircraft. Some friends in some ships with float planes is sick

You could try using the Fritz Bomb in Naval.
It was originally designed to be used against Ships and with German Bombers you can reach a height where AA can't really reach you.

I absolutely love torpedo bombing in naval, unfortunately I play Japanese naval so the torpedo bombers you get arenât the double torpedo BTD but I find flying as low as possible is the best thing you can do as only AA on a single side can shoot at you, also try out the IJN Kongo đđ»

use the F6F-5 for torpedo bombing in naval. It's a fighter so it cost less sp to spawn, I believe.
Well,in real life,most often, aircraft wouldn't have attacked fleet of warships alone but in a wing or even entire squadron,even fleets if needed like against Yamato where about 300 aircraft attacked it together with it's token screen of destroyers.
Idk what to say, I used the B7A2 in naval quite a lot to one shot ships and sometimes i even make it out alive, though I haven't gotten higher than light cruisers in the tech tree.
You should try this with 3 buddies and just cinematically swarm one enemy with torpedoes

Aerial torpedoes arenât very good in naval because you canât change the depth, but take a Lancaster with two cookies down to mast height and pretend youâre a Dambuster. Sinking two BBs in one run in that is a lot of fun.

How I would change planes in Naval to make them work. Maybe.
The only planes you can select in your lineup are Naval Patrol planes. Flying boats and multi engined bombers that could be dispatched from land bases to support naval fights out at sea. These aircraft get one sortie. You go in, use your ordinance then bug out. (maybe a spawn point bonus if you survive long enough to fly out of the fight? Something to incentivise players not just to drop payload then bail out.)
Battles have a chance to spawn AI carriers (or player ones if they ever make them) the carrier launches AI attack planes and fighter cover all through the battle. Players who loose a ship and have enough spawn points can take over one of the aircraft that are in the air. This way you aren't flying solo. enemy AA has to split its fire between all the planes.
Players can also opt to use spawn points to launch catapult fighters/spotters/torpedo bombers from other players ships if that ship has any.
Its nice to see the Hiryu helping the americans at Guadalcanal
HE-VT shells (the ones that killed you in the first match) are something I have a love-hate relationship with in Naval. Love to use them, hate to fly against them.

I for one, use torpedoes all the time in naval. And they are high risk, but for Naval AB at least, I can get 1-2 extra kills after I use all my lives with it indefinitely, because no one expects it
And what I always do, is that you always gotta use the real life tactic of staying just above sea, if you come up from above and dive down just in front of them, you will 100% die

Finally got my SeaDog Title after such a long time, bet not many players have it. Sticking with my Old Guard but its cool to finally have it.
I've got a challenge and a half for ya Phly. Try to get sea mine kills with the PV-2D in sea battles.
Torpedo bombing in war thunder is generally rare. In mixed RB you usually get into matches without ships (from my experience). In Naval you can barely get any sp, then there is the AA.
In air RB there's ships on some maps but it's not worth it to go for them since the RP and SL reward isn't that great. One time I was bored while playing the Tu-4 so I dropped one 500kg bomb per light cruiser. The ships also were the higher quality ones so they had the better AA so it would be a death sentence to drop torpedoes on them unless you drop the torpedoes from over 2km away.
Itâs almost like these things were supposed to be flown in squadrons
I will say, high teir naval has a bunch of problems, but low teir naval (4.0-ish) is a good bit of fun. Planes are also more viable down there.

I'm not sure with Gaijin logic, but I would think you should spread your torpedos out slightly so the explosion of the first one cannot destroy the second one before it hits.
Hey phly! You should revisit the T-80 light tank sometime. One of my favorite tanks in the game with an amazing reload and good armor for a light tank, its also got a secret trait that while the suspension is really bouncy, itâs super stable on the move. If you keep it moving at low speeds and donât stop too often you can get surprisingly accurate and consistent shots off
I just bought it & wasn't too impressed, but I will have to try to use it more mobile like that then. Thanks for the advice!

You like torpedoing...? Then please, please play Port Moresby in Sim, you can torpedo carriers and have awesome dogfights over the water! I recommend the F6F since it can carry a torp while putting up a fight, but the B7A2 is pretty amazing too. Just note that if you try to top a carrier, you HAVE to approach from the front or else the AA will shred you. But, one torp is enough to sink them.
Phly if you want to torpedo battleships I dare you to play the single mission "Yamato''s Death" in RB.
I really like how planes "function" or really dont in naval. It takes so long to drive ur boat somewhere constantly getting blown up by planes would suck!

I got shot down at over 5000m trying a Pe-8. That was the last time I tried coming in from high alt, I always use islands etc for cover now flying super low.
This is right after my birthday so ya know, might spoil myself
