Surprising number of performances of this on CZcams, but this one is the gold standard. Kaljuste is charismatic, a shaman; the lean ensemble is terrific and they creates a spine-tingling sense of overhearing an ancient rite. Raw, earthy, not a hint of prettiness.
if the singers would perform this without notes and connected with Kaljuste ... the pulse would be fabulous more earthy (dance ceremony)... great koor

this conductor is bloody fantastic. It's one thing to watch. But knowing what it's like to be emotionally trusting and following a conductor... He would make me perform my absolute finest.

This and Forgotten Peoples... what a singularly spectacular composer Veljo Tormis was. Kaljuste and crew are spectacular here!

Just saw this performed live by the State Choir of Latvia (here in Ottawa for a performance) It was hair-raisingly thrilling! Had to listen again...

This piece, and in particular this performance under the great Tonu Kaljuste (one of the closest friends and greatest ambassadors of the even greater Veljo Tormis) should be banned by all churches in the world for its blatant paganism ... A greater compliment than this simply does not occur to me ...
