  • Ukrainian officials says Russian forces have now entered the city of Sievierodonetsk, after days of intense shelling. The eastern city has become the focus of Moscow's push to capture all of the Donbas region.
    00:00 President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian bombs had destroyed almost all the city's critical infrastructure and damaged most buildings. Meanwhile on Sunday, Zelenskyy made his first official visit outside of the capital to meet troops on the frontline near Kharkhiv.
    10:23 Fears of Russian aggression are spreading beyond Ukraine to the United States, where there's a boom in demand for private bunkers. DW's Ines Pohl has visited one of the largest bunker factories in the US, which is churning out luxury shelters - for those who can afford them.

      Russia must liberate whole Ukraine. If a small portion left untouched then it would again become a fascist state that Uncle Sam would pump with weapons pushing it against Russia. It would be better for Ukraine not to kill 14000 civilians in Donbass and NATO not to spread to the east threatening Russia. Russia won’t stop regardless of the price it would have to pay. Russians talked about it a lot, but no one wanted to hear. Russia has no choice. Now Russia has changed from talking to doing its right business.

    I should have waited to comment until the end of the video. Having lived through the cold war and as a child having "drills" wherein we would hear a siren and we would hunker under our desks until the siren stopped wailing as late as 4th grade. I was fascinated by the news that my parents watched every night at 11pm. Since I was an insomniac even as a child I watched the news almost every night without my parents even being aware. I overheard my parents discussing building a bomb shelter since we were so close to Plattsburgh Air Force Base and I heard my Dad tell my Mom that while he could build a bomb shelter under the basement floor the equipment needed to filter radiation out of the air was not only outside of his wheelhouse but too expensive to even contemplate. After that I found the drills ridicules but dutifully hunkered under my desk until the drill ended. My Father was not a man to lie to his children and so I asked him directly how likely was it that they would drop a bomb on the Air Force Base in Plattsburgh, NY just across Lake Champlain and he said that it would probably be targeted. I didn't have a clear idea about radiation and I asked him if we were far enough away to be safe from this mysterious radiation that you can't see or smell and he looked at me sadly and shook his head. The next time the siren went off I just sat in my chair and Mrs. Clarke had to order me to go under the desk. I liked her so I did as she ordered and while the other children went out for recess afterward she asked me why and I told her what I had heard and what my Dad had explained and she was horrified that my Father had been so honest. I told her that my Father believed that if a child is able to educate themselves enough to ask a serious question he would not lie because I would learn the truth at some point in time and I would lose trust in him and that may cause me to endanger myself in the future because I couldn't count on him being honest. She nodded and told me to play along as the rest of the class didn't know the truth. She said it gave them comfort. So I did. The following school year the drills were stopped.

      Its a huge area and Russia is making gains in some area while Ukraine makes gains in countering them in other areas.
      This is probably going to take months or even years. Russia can move into a town today and maybe months later when it fits with Ukraines strategy, they will come and free the town again.
      Basically nobody knows how this will end but all signs point to Ukraine not letting Russia move much further and Russia will never have peace in any occupied area to do anything with it for the foreseeable future.

      Depends. I always wondered how the air systems in a bunker would filter out radioactive particles or what would happen when a nuke sets off a forest fire. Would you bake like a potato in a bunker or suffocate? I don't think bunker salesmen are worried about lawsuits after the fact.

    • @notroll1279
      @notroll1279 Před 2 lety

      That depends. In case of an all-out war with strategic missiles or a direct hit with a smaller tactical nuclear device, you're right.
      If a much smaller tactical nuke impacts 10 km away from you (assuming the attacker wants to find anything of value once he rolls in), having a bunker allows you to survive the impact, sit out the worst of radiation and then get out and move to a non-contaminated area.
      Like many things in risk management, there are no certainties, only probabilities.

    I have been to different countries. Now I am a citizen of the US. What I understood in my life. Patriotism, liberation, democracy, freedom are fancy words used by politicians to give people the false feeling of being great! But in reality middle class people care about their families and do not want wars.I have seen that Armenians can be friends with Turks, Russians can be friends with Americans. For me I don't care anymore what my country is called as long as I can provide for my family and live in piece. The country I was born in doesn't exist anymore, but I live. So why should I go and fight for so called freedom if I am not a slave already. My biggest frustration that media wants us to be enemies. I am very sad that US and Russian government spend so much efforts to portray each other as enemies. If they spent such amount of effort to educate people, the world would have already become the better place to live.
