We mark our new Queen Bee's with Uni Posca markers, and we have been marking Queens this way for many, many years. Once you prime and saturate the nib of the Posca marker with pigment (make sure to get the correct nib tip), it goes on to the Queen Bee so smoothly it doesn't disturb her. You'll note in our video we marked our Queen Bee while she was laying eggs, and she just kept going.
This is a safe way to mark Queen Bees, and makes it easier for us when doing a bee inspection to spot her and know she is still safely in the hive.
We marked this Queen Bee with yellow because she was born in 2022 , and every color is associated with a year ending number.
*Yellow denotes years ending in 2 or 7. So it is good to have a set of Posca's with all the colors, as they last a long time.
