  • Been meaning to explore this trail for sometime now. A very nice stretch of coastline with some breathtaking views of the Monterey Bay. Approximately 18 miles long and goes from the highway 101 exit in Castroville to Lover's Point in Pacific Grove, CA. Almost all of the trail is shown in time lapse to get an idea of the scenery and landmarks along the way. Trail crosses the very popular Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey where we stopped to enjoy some fresh caught smoked Salmon, shrimp cocktails and Clam chowder. Just a little further down the trail is Cannery Row where the Monterey Bay aquarium is located. A very nicely paved trail which uses a few county roads and cities streets to connect to other sections. Most areas have Bike Route signs to keep you on track but I highly recommend downloading the Trail Forks app on your phone to keep yourself on the right track. Also very helpful to find new trails around you to explore!

10:47. sand city if you have a road bike be careful on the sand sometimes the bike paths are covered in it. I love this route I went to the university CSUMB and always rode a lot after class it’s cool ride but remember the return trip is the hardest 😂 especially some of the hills are killer if you’re not used to hills

  • @caligirlwholoves2travel381

That hill is a killer but feels so good once you get to the top and cruise all the way down!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Yes, the trail ends at Lover's Point, but there is gorgeous coastline, well worth showing, if you continue further. The trail directly feeds onto Ocean View Boulevard, which has a bike lane.

I'm in Florida but last summer rode my bike in the area too from Monterey to San Louis Obispo through Big Sur. This looks like a nice trail. I assume it's the other way. :)

What city in this route can you start to see the ocean? Marina? Is it very hilly?

Sand City and south is the best coastal views from the trail. Hills are very minimal. Definitely recommended especially on these hotter days. Shade is here and there but the ocean breeze stays pretty constant.

Palm Avenue in Marina is a good starting point to ride along to the bay. Park along the RR tracks.

Where did you park in castroville to start the trail?

We parked a few blocks away from the Market near the gas station. I would reccomend parking right next to the market next time. Plenty of room in the dirt lot behind it.
