  • Riverside’s Movement Disorders Program now offers MRI focused Ultrasound in addition to Deep Brain Stimulation and therapy services. MRI focused US is an exciting new procedure for the treatment of medication-refractory essential tremors and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s Disease that targets the pathways deep in the brain where the tremors occur, allowing patients to see a vast improvement in their tremor in only a few hours with minimal side effects or recovery time.
    The procedure is done in a single session with no incisions, with patients able to go home shortly after it is finished. Brian Osborne, who has been living with Parkinson’s Disease, shared his experience of having the procedure done on the left side of his brain in order to improve the tremors in his right (dominant) side.

    FUS was originally designed for the treatment of Essential Tremor ("ET"). I had my FUS for ET 2 years ago for tremors in my dominant hand. Both my hands were affected but we decided to deal only with the dominant hand. I am very happy to see this result for Brian and hope that this treatment becomes mainstream for these movement disorders.

    Parkinson disease is a very terrible illness, my Dad suffered from it for 19 years until we finally got a help and a medicine that truly works that helped treat, cure and reversed all his symptoms... My Dad is well again.

      Not everybody qualifies for ultrasound. Only one part of your brain has to be affected. It was declined because I live with this disease for over 10 years.

    • @robertangleson8969
      @robertangleson8969 Před rokem

      It is invasive in that it kills cells in the brain and is not reversible. My MDS described it as non-surgical but very invasive. Was not recommended. I will probably get DBS

      @@robertangleson8969 infrared laser is not invasive, and does not kill cells in the brain at all. It helps them heal and repair. Can't speak for ultrasound though.

      I misunderstood and thought you were talking about Focused Ultrasound which in my opinion is very invasive. I have been intrigued by the red laser treatment but have not found much information yet. The vibrating gloves developed at Stanford hold some promise also but still in clinical trials. Good luck in your journey.
