Print media, record labels, the radio, and concert promoters were all grooming The Rolling Stones to take over as the worlds biggest band after the Beatles broke up. Zeppelin’s sudden rise in popularity was a direct threat to their business.
Page negotiated complete creative control over the music when signing with Atlantic and they refused to release singles for radio play. Their manager changed the game in demanding concert proceeds that favored the artist over promoters. They were absolutely against the grain as Lex said.

In this episode of Brad & Lex, acoustic strumming sets the mood before Mr Plant plants himself in the middle of of the mayhem. Brad's claim of chaos, in so many words rings true to Lex as she only stops her "bop" for convo describing the 70,s sound as a jam session in one room leading to a fine orchestral finish in another. Brad isn't indifferent. Brad just is....He does manage to relinquish a slight "side to side sway".

I always like to think, every time I listen to this song, when it gets to the early part of the outro, it sounds like a chiming clock striking the hours, and it conjures this image in my head of a man of later years, sat late at night, in an old high back armchair, glass of whisky in one hand, cigar in the other, and he's just sat reminiscing on past loves won and lost. When Zeppelin first came out, their songs were not the short 3 & 1/2 minute, AM radio air play length. They started playing them on FM stations. That was when the station in Tulsa, OK would play side one of an album, no commercials, then they would play side two of the album. Friends would get together on Friday and Saturday nights to party and listen to newly released albums. I got married in 1978, FM radio was then doing commercials and playing Zep. If my wife and I were just stopping at a convenience store and Zep was on the radio, I didn’t get out of the car until the son ended. I’ve always been a Zep fan, and always will be!!!!!

Kind of similar...I befriended a new guy my junior year of high school, and started hanging out. He would play a bunch of Zeppelin, a band I'd never listened, and I became entranced. I bought an acoustic and the first song I wanted to learn was Over the Hills. I learned the basics, and after many months, tackled the song and when you finally play along with the track, it's magic. I then learned more Zep, bought an electric, learned Whole Lotta Love...first solo was that short one. Then learned the solo to Stairway, and now I could play an entire couple songs, solo and all. Then I dove into all that other music I passed by, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, etc. Now, all grown up and old, I torture my kids by playing along to Iron Maiden songs in our house and they've no choice but to listen to me while I recapture my youth, LOL. But Zep started it all.

The craftsmanship and thought that went into every one of their songs will never be duplicated.

@@doscojones6404 I've been watching this channel since August last year. Lex is progressing more quickly in her musical understanding than Brad. But their music theory game is trailer park level AKA zero. A lot of other reactors at least have some musical performance and/or production background or at least a working knowledge of theory.
#CouchGang might want to try and up their game. Watching y'all live up the the lyrics of your outro song gets a little old sometimes. The learning process could be interesting to vlog, as well.
Brad should get a keyboard and a piano theory course. The piano is the most logically laid out instrument possible. It's perfect for Brad's more rigid thought process. There's only one way to play any given note on the piano. Not so on guitar. Or maybe he's more the drummer type. There's the issue of noise with an acoustic kit, but an electronic kit would be nearly silent.
But definitely, Lex should get a guitar, a cheap but good one at first, IDK maybe a Squier Bullet Strat, or Ibanez Gio series, maybe a little amp... thinking Peavey, Marshall, Fender... not a big one; the smallest (or second smallest) one they have; don't wanna get too loud and piss anyone off, might wanna use headphones. Instead of an amp, she could get a computer interface like a FocusRite and then get software and plugins. This would have the advantage of home recording as a possibility.
Or maybe just start on acoustic. But electric is easier. I actually started out on an electric, a Gibson ES-335. My dad didn't give me an amp to use, saying that I should start out unplugged. It was a sweet instrument for a beginner to start with. Thanks, Dad. Oh yeah, and a guitar theory course is a good idea, too.
I realize they're trying to get into a house and focused on that. IJS. When y'all can, up yo game.

  • @Samscoinsandheavymetal
    @Samscoinsandheavymetal Pƙed 2 lety +8

Here’s my technical but not too technical analysis of what I think lex is trying to say
They’re masterful at call and response and deeply layered melodies
    1. Everything music in is call and response.
A musical phrase is then answered by another phrase
    2. The music is deeply layered . There’s at least 4 guitar tracks at various points at once especially in between the verses (Achilles last stand has as many as 7 guitars overdubbed simultaneously).
Listen very closely you hear the acoustic 12 string main strummed riff but there’s a counter melody over the top played by another acoustic guitar
The melodies intertwine creating a big thick layered wall of sound
Page is all about swing (playing on and emphasizing the off or upbeat). If you count the music 1 2 3 4 (If you don’t even know how to do that most of the cymbal crashes are on the first beat), most of the versus start on the first beat although that doesn’t apply to every song it does here
If you’re counting watch how many notes are played off the downbeat and how often the offbeat is emphasized by a chord or a repeated phrase
In other words instead of counting 1234 count in eighth notes
    1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and
And watch how much music falls on the end or in between beats (1/16 and 1/32 notes or triplets).
Anyway I tried to not be too technical but that’s what’s going on
What makes it even more amazing is there live performances are just as good and in some respects better but for different reasons
A lot of the reaction channels talk about how great they are alive but I’ve heard very few people point out the fact that all of that music taken out the percussion and the vocal comes from two people page and Jones - there’s no second guitar. There’s no keyboardist unless it’s Jones playing the keyboard and using foot pedals for the bass but there’s no separate person
What they accomplish live is all that much more impressive because of how they do it with only four people one of which is the drummer and one of which is the singer who does not play an instrument
Because of how much they layer the studio music they essentially had to play completely different songs live and decide what parts to emphasize and what parts to leave out because almost every one of their songs has multiple guitar tracks layered over each other
Songs like ramble on and all the other ones really
doesn’t matter which song you pick
Page can only play one part of the song at a the time. That is why it’s so impressive how big the sound is live with so few people playing

Zeppelin made good use of their country's deep literary tradition. "Over the Hills and Far Away" is a traditional British song, dating back to at least the late 17th century. One version was published in Thomas D'Urfey's Wit and Mirth, or Pills to Purge Melancholy; a very different one appeared in George Farquhar's 1706 play The Recruiting Officer. A version also appears in John Gay's The Beggar's Opera of 1728. --Wikipedia

I like how she describes it! She's pretty accurate, Led Zeppelin music is intimate. It extracts emotions from you that maybe you didn't know about.

The majority of their albums went number 1 straight out of the gate. They were the original rock n roll goats. They also, respectfully, paid tribute to the delta blues in their own way. Jimmy page was the lightening while John Bonham was the thunder. When the thunder died, rip, that was it. They all were so talented they went their separate ways, but the lightening in a bottle that was Led Zeppelin will never be matched. My absolute favorite band. Brought my down home music to me in a different light and allowed me to discover all of it. I'll always be appreciative.

Zep was a magical band into story telling as they blew your ears out sonically. Todays music is not this, or even close 😔

Lex... At the end of the song what you hear is a recording of John Paul Jones playing a 400 year old Organ The operates with foot pedal's. This organ is located in the Netherlands. In Saint George's cathedral. The pipes for the organ are over 30' high. Jones Went there and did a lot of recordings and added them electronics to many of Led Zeppelin songs

The outro led you to the next song albums were a whole production. At the time parents in my school would not allow Led Zepelin. Lex your right about it being in your face.
