I play ultimate frisbee barefoot, and have for almost a decade. Before that, I used to wear cleats. I would get blisters on my feet, and experience minor pain in my knees and ankles after games. I used to take the game much more seriously than I do today. And I cared more about winning.
I’ve taken off my cleats for good, and now I have way more fun.
A few of my friends have given up theirs as well, and a few seasons later - they don’t seem to miss wearing cleats at all.
Here are 11 reasons why you might want to try playing ultimate frisbee barefoot:
    1. If Your Cleats Don’t Match The Field, Risk of ACL Injury Increases 0:07
    2. Barefoot Ultimate Frisbee Players Are Less Likely To Roll Their Ankles 1:01
    3. You Are LESS Competitive When You Play Ultimate Frisbee Barefoot 1:39
    4. Playing Ultimate Frisbee Barefoot Just FEELS So Much Better 2:34
    5. Cleats Interrupt Nerve Signals and Reduce Movement Accuracy 3:39
    6. Running Barefoot is Easier on Your Joints 5:02
    7. Cleats Are Expensive, Bare Feet Are Free 6:17
    8. You Won’t Forget Your Feet at Home 7:10
    9. People Think You’re a Bit Crazy 7:48
    10. Other Players Give You More Space When You Play Ultimate Frisbee Barefoot 8:22
    11. You Probably Won’t Get Stepped On, And if You Do, Cleats Won’t Help Much Anyway 9:28

Yup it happens for sure, and when it does - it sucks! I've always just taken it as the short term price I pay for avoiding long term damage to my knees / ankles ;)

yea I have to say, I took my cleats off in August playing with this mixed-age group .. there were teenagers and children barefoot and they seemed to be having fun, so .. and literally within like five minutes my heel fractured (stress fracture, but still).

Taking more steps to cut is in general a good training, I might do that :P

also. going barefoot increases net negative charge in cell in mitochondria because the sun hits the earth releasing a tonne of free electrons. You collect those free electrons through your feet. And they are anti inflammatory, actually help blood flow, lower stress levels, recovery, all sort of benefits.

Hey, how do you change direction quickly barefoot?

    • @ryanlowe6243
      @ryanlowe6243  Před 4 měsíci +1

You'll never change direction as quickly as you would if you were wearing cleats. That said, if you can get good and low just before changing direction, it will really help. When I really need to change direction, I get so low that I can touch the ground with my hands. And sometimes I even notice that I use a hand for added traction on the cut. Your body will learn how to make it work, the more you do it. But probably best not to start out playing barefoot in the rain!

I used to play barefoot but stubbed my big toe in the turf too many times. Waking up to a blue-black big toe is a little disconcerting.

A srácnak soha nem ugrottak rá a lábára stoplival.
Ez csak úgy lenne életképes, ha vagy mindenki mezítláb játszik, vagy mindenki cipőben.

There is a lot of uninformed information in this video on sports related medicine. For instance, peak force while running barefoot does not match with basic physics. Shoes reduce the moment of impact. If you land heavy in shoes, you are just running wrong.
