My mother, a concert pianist, and my father, a concert violinist, also played this sonata many times, and all of Beethoven's 10 sonatas for piano and violin. They are now in their 80s, retired, and don't play anymore, although my father still practices every day, but my mother has Alzheimer's. Age has its good things, I suppose, with all the life experience, knowledge, and wisdom acquired, but it is still kind of devastating, when one sees the end of an era coming to an end in one's life. All one is left with are memories, and some recordings!

Twenty three years later, I still feel that this is the definitive reading of the piece… which is strange, since there is a great, great number of renditions of this beautiful and joy-filled work. Perhaps a historian of music can provide us with some perspective about the life circumstances, if not the state of mind of the composer, surrounding the writing of this classic.

One of the first concerts I ever went to (I was about 16) was the first of a series of three concerts where this duo played all of Beethoven's violin sonatas. It was and still remains one of the greatest musical experiences of my life. They held the entire audience in the palm of their hands, we were scared to breathe in case we broke the spell they wove. There are no better recordings than the set they did and I doubt there will ever be a violinist who will surpass or even match the gorgeous rich tone of Itzhak Perlman.
Possibly my favorite interpretation. Classical pieces don't have to be showy; the charm is already there in the simplicity of the lyrical lines composed within the notes :)

Mum and Dad played this piece-they were a professional duo dad on violin of course- they were sooo good! Still are at 80 tho they don’t play anymore

I find this version more persuasive than another famous duo. Refreshing and indeed, Classical!
