The Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Christmas SCREW UP of 2001 - My Retro Life - Hry
Hey guys! If you liked this - Check out the story of how I got my SEGA Dreamcast here - czcams.com/video/JI3_m0j4GTk/video.html Thanks for watching!
I once ordered Sonic Riders for Xbox and they shipped it to me with a copy of Sonic Riders for PS2 inside the Xbox box. I have no idea how they screwed that up in shipping so hard. It was sealed and everything lol
I got an order screw up once and it actually worked out in my favor. I ordered Hoshi No Kirby 3 for the Super Famicom from Japan and instead ended up getting Sparkster for the Super Famicom instead. Not only was Sparkster a good game but it was also 4x more expensive. I ended up rebuying Hoshi No Kirby 3 again and got it later.
I told the seller what happened and they let me keep the game.
Not sure if it was because on Amazon they don't have pictures with each listing, but I was under the assumption I was buying the Japanese version of Spider-Man 2002 on Gamecube, when in reality I got the US copy I already owned...Ended up getting the JP copy later on, literally only just to hear the voice acting and such. LOL
Me I Preordered Doom 2016 Xbox one Limited Edition Version instead I got PS4 Limited Edition Version The Limited edition didn’t have a tag for which console it was on So I had to go back to EB games a few days later Because we were busy got the right version after Even the guy who works at EB games Found it stupid how it didn’t have a Tag for which console it one.
A couple years ago I bought Psychonauts for the PS2, from eBay. At the time it was cheap ($20) but the seller sent me an Xbox copy (in pristine, CIB condition, by the way). On top of that, they didn't even answered my messages regarding the problem. I threw the towel, kept the game and bought another PS2 copy from a different vendor, for the same price. Well, since Psychonauts 2 was released, the first one is now quite expensive, specially the Xbox version. So... Thanks, eBay vendor !!!! :D
My brother who is sadly no longer with us imported the original Sonic Adventure 2 special birthday pack for Sega Dreamcast from Japan. it was only on sale for 2 days, wasn’t expecting it but I’ll never forget it and I still have my copy that I treasure to this day.
My brother who also sadly isn’t with us no more used to be just like this. I remember when he ordered a psp from Japan when it released a few months early over there. We felt like kings to our friends 😂
@@dickbuttkiss1991 Those were truly the golden years of gaming.
What happened to your brother?
@@dickbuttkiss1991 What happened to your brother?
R.I.P your bro. Fly high n sorry for ur loss
It musta sucked in the moment , but the story and memory are priceless
Where did you go?
Life
I love how involved your father was in gaming and recording all of these videos they are way too cool
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. That game was one of the biggest deals of every 90's kid childhood back in the 2000's.
Definitely one of my favorite games ever. I beat it on almost every system it was ever on. DC, GC, PS3, 4, I even beat it multiple times on several android smartphones using emulators.
@@UltimateShadow10 Nice!
I was born in 2005 and it was my favorite game when I was 3 years old 😂
My first GameCube game. Actually I got it with my console. And it was a blast to play multiplayer with my little brother.
@@atomickid that's awesome!
Oh dead God, expecting to get Sonic Adventure 2 and getting FIFA instead is possibly the worst possible switch.
Back then, Fifa games werent that bad, they were fun and mostly unique. Its only recently they started copy pasting Fifa 16 as Fifa 22.
I was just about to comment the same thing 🤣
@@gamingnubs7628 Mostly unique?
@@Princescyther well, its FIFA, it isnt really groundbreaking.
sonic fans and fifa fans are on totally opposite endes of the spectrum lmao
Someone who ordered Fifa back then got the Sonic Adventure lol
EB Games litterally did the exact same thing to me with Son ic Adventure 2, but the Dreamcast version, they decided to send me Alone in the Dark instead.
Guess you felt alone in the dark when EB Games sent the wrong game
😂😂 So EB Games was an incompetent company?? 😂😂
Edited: Hello You 👍🏿
If anyone wondering
Eb games is our countries GameStop
@@justsome500yearoldwithsmug2 In the US we had both GameStop and EB Games until GameStop bought them out.
@@Moskeeto oh so is that the story? Interesting
I thought they were just the same company
Which now that I think about it more doesn't make sense
I’ve not only had the wrong game shipped, I also had FedEx leave my PS5 out on the sidewalk in front of my house on launch day because they were too lazy to bring it to the door!
I haven't had the best experiences with FedEx haha
That gives me PTSD since PS5 is so rare. It's been a year and i still couldn't get one at retail price. I'll never buy from scalpers even if it means i'll never own a PS5.
Chip shortage is causing what happened with the number of Atari Jaguar and Sega Dreamcast units were sold. Blame Covid.
@@moji96 and that my friend is how everyone should do. Stay strong and keep hope. Keep searching in every retail store and you might find one.
And the day you find one will be an even greater feeling, knowing you pretty much hunted it for more than a year.
I just discovered your channel a few days ago and this is this most comforting content I've ever seen. It's so close to how my own childhood was, the nostalgia is off the charts. Plus, seeing how excited your dad was to share his love of video games with you is awesome.
Thank you for sharing these memories with the rest of us.
Truly, the absolute the worst thing that happened in 2001.
Kabuki Warriors was pretty close.
Loving the dark humor
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was one of the many games back then that seemed like everyone played and loved. It was like a universal common interest you could immediately have a conversation over and start a new friendship. The gaming community used to be such an awesome united and exciting place.
Honestly, you two handled the disappointment pretty well. 😅 I was expecting awkward silence for a bit. It’s like when a musical performer continues to act along swiftly after a major accident/injury, lol.
i said OMG at the same time they did lol
You ever see the Simpson episode where Bart thought he was getting the game he wanted and opened it up and it was a golfing game and the silence afterwards was hilarious
Seriously it would have been better to just send a email saying it was out of stock or something then getting a game you don’t want at all lol.
This channel is such a hidden gem
I can't even imagine importing consoles before release being a regular childhood memory
I think your dog was just as excited for the gift on Christmas morning!
Jade was quite the SEGA dog! She looked like the dog from Shadow Dancer sort of
@@MyRetroLife I bet u miss your dog
"Does he have feats of strength? Feats of strength?!" 😂😂
Even in modern days, they still ship us FIFA games when we order our most anticipated games for no reason, it's still scary till this day lol
You handled the disappointment well as a 15 year old.
Fr i would been pissed lmao🤦♂️
I’m 15, I would’ve felt Pretty defeated but act pretty much the same.
He handled it like a 15yo should. Its weird you because americans remain infantalized till their 20s which is weird. Japanese kids already live alone at 15 and 16 to live in the city near the top schools.
@@quattro4468 I am not American i am Australian and as a sheltered 15 yo i would have struggled to be humble. As an adult yes but not as a novice adult.
@@quattro4468 My mum was married at 16 with her own house ffs.
That’s classic 😂. If you still got him there, give your dad a huge hug.
This reminded me of when I got my N64 on Christmas but my grandparents’ tv only supported RF input. I needed to buy a separate RF adapter, and this was before Amazon. I was pissed and my fit is now immortalized in a family video. You definitely handled it better than I would have.
I got my RF adapter in a separate box. Luckily my parents thought about that... our main TV didn't need it but the TV where all the gaming went on did.
I remember opening the N64 and being disappointed that there wasn't a game. My parents wouldn't know that since consoles always had a pack-in. I told them I could use my Christmas money to go get Mario 64.
I had two other N64 related gifts. The RF adapter, and.... Mario 64!
I then called a friend to come over and check it out and he insisted that I was a liar and that if I didn't really have an N64 he could cut my dick off. Yep........
Well, I'm no liar, so my anatomy is intact.
You were incredibly mature at 15 in the way you reacted lol. Sonic Adventure 2 is one of my favorite sonic games, alongside with Adventure 1 and Unleashed.
I got my original Xbox from Buy-Rite here in Raleigh!
Haha! This kind of reminds me of what happened to me in 1993. My parents bought me a CD-I for Christmas that year and one of the games they got me was The 7th Guest. That game was on back order for months. Every time I thought the game would come, I would get another notice that it would come at a later date. Anyway. The game eventually showed up and I was so stoked to put it in and play it. I popped it in my CD-I and was met with a message that the game wouldn't play without having the Digital Video Cartridge installed! I had to wait until the Christmas of 1994 before I could finally play the game! Great video Tyler! It totally reminded me of the Christmas of 1993 and my ordeal with The 7th Guest.
Well, I hope your family learned to move on to PCs for that kind of thing!
on the upside of it, it made for an entertaining story years later, even if at the moment it must've been the most deflating thing ever
So true and I think we even knew it back then
I aspire to be like your dad to my kids one day. Not just buying them games and machines but being actively involved, getting hyped right along side them and being able to talk and discuss with them about games.
My jaw DROPPED when I saw what game they actually sent you!
hahaha true how they make that mistake :D this game is trash :D they maybe just trying to give her to someone haha :D for that they sent her to him
Damn, and I thought my mistake of choosing Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure over Pokemon Sapphire was bad, but this... this is worse. I'm sorry this happened to you, buddy. :(
So nice that you had such a good dad, and not because of the gifts, but because he was your buddy. Not all of us had the same luck, including me. Go give him a call, tell him he's the best. Don't leave it for tomorrow.
I’m sorry for what happened to you. Forever in my prayers
Sonic Adventure 2 still remains my favorite video game to this day.
I've been spending my morning on my day off watching all of your videos, absolutely love them! Thank you for sharing such great memories!
Thanks Joe! Appreciate you watching and commenting
dude that classic Sega sign with sonic on it, man that's so sick. the treasures we had in the past that were just ordinary to own in those days, are now relics!
I invested so much time into this game in the chao garden, also replaying the levels over and over again to get rings to buy stuff for my chao. This will always be my favorite sonic game
@TSnintendogamer duuuuude jacob
Same... the Chao Garden was addictive.
its even better with mods on the steam version, try Chao World Extended and Enhanced Chao World.
there is also a fan game about raising chaos named chao resort island
You definitely know how to tell a story. You made this little event very interesting with the retro archive and all
This was a great moment to watch. Having the old recording really sells it
You don't have to sell the truth.
Your Dad's laugh after the reveal...priceless.
The fact that you're father pre-order Those consoles before the American release shows how much she cared about gaming. I was lucky to get a new system a year or two after release.
What an amazing video! Well done.
Hi
That was tragic, but it also made me smile. It's fun that you can laugh about it. Sonic Adventure 2 was my childhood. Unfortunately I missed out on the Dreamcast since I was a bit too young and it was so shortlived, didn't get one till years later. But got Sonic Adventure 2 on GameCube and I played that game soooooooooo much.
tragic? just a small delay. no big deal. it's not like his dog was killed
Not even my save files on the gamecube want to tell me exactly how long i played this. They all cap out at 99 hours. Definitely one I won't be getting rid of.
Sonic Adventure 2 came out right after the Dreamcast was discontinued; they remastered Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 on GameCube in 2003 & 2004.
Sonic Adventure 2 on GameCube actually came out December 20th of 2001 in Japan where it was first released. Sonic Adventure DX followed in 2003.
@@MyRetroLife But Battle was a new version of Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast
Beautiful moments with your dad, gamer moments. Im really glad you appreciate those moments so much. Thank u
Wish I recorded my reactions to games and events in my life like this would have been nice to look back on
THANK YOU for sharing these wonderful stories of your childhood of gaming and especially of your dad! he seems like he was such a wonderful guy!
Bummer dude!
You channel is genius. The retro gaming aspect and also just a retrospective of a time many of us miss. Your bond with your dad. An example for all aspiring parents. It's like a Wonder Years for gamers.
Hats off great stuff
Wow when your dad said omg 😱 it was the best!!! Also you sound a lot like your father. In retrospect it’s probably funnier now than it was back then lol
5:09 of all the games to receive, this feels like a huge troll move. a sports game and that cover with the player's lifeless face.
I liked your dad's reaction too, OMG lol
Your dad is absolutely amazing.
Your videos bring JOY tyler
I loved producing them Jimmy. Thanks for watching
@@MyRetroLife ey Tyler god blessed me with ma job back so soon enough I wanna see ma name in those credits as well you'll be seeing some money from me so I can have ma name at the end of them episodes
This video is awesome. Your memories along with narration and videos capturing the past brought me a huge smile.
Tyler, thanks for another awesome video! I always love watching your videos, especially this time of year!
A very merry Christmas to you and your loved ones. Thank you for all the happiness your memories have brought me since you started sharing them.
Oh man what a disaster! Lol, whoever packaged it must have been tired or something.
4:24 - I'm from Raleigh, I used to go to Buy Rite videogames all the time when I was a kid in the 90s...it was located in the flea market...fun times
I loved this game on the GameCube. There was something incredibly smooth about a GameCube.. My dad bought the Dreamcast and I was so damn sad they discontinued it.. Toy Commander, Sonic and a few others were mind-blowing!
I can never get enough of My Retro Life!!!
You're too kind, Jay!
Love the content, love reliving these memories with you. So thankful for you and your channel
Appreciate each viewer who watches and comments. Means so much to know the videos are well received!
THIS GAME WAS MY CHILDHOOD OMG. Dude thank you for these videos
Nakata looks good on fifa 2002 cover but a tad disappointing to say the least .
I love this channel, you honestly bring back so many memories by watching these old recordings, subscribed and bell clicked
Outta all the games to get. Thank you for sharing. I love hearing all these stories.
Thank you for sharing these memories with all of us viewers!
I remember getting my dreamcast day 1 from electronic boutique in the uk with Sega rally 2 and sonic adventure. So many great games for it.
It’s awesome to see the love that was in your family from your dad to your grandparents all those years that’s great and you still have the memories to watch whatever you want it’s awesome it was a heck of a childhood man
Haha wow, great story! This is the first video of yours I've watched as CZcams recommended it. Sonic Adventures 2 Battle is one of my favorite video games of all time and my favorite 3D Sonic game. Also, I got into the FIFA franchise the year after with FIFA 2003 so this was a nostalgia trip for me.
Just stopped by to watch some retro moments before my time. Great Channel
sonic adventure 2 battle was actually my first ever sonic game and it blew me away as a kid
Sounds like you have a great family, awesome 👍 thanks for the content
Thank you so much for sharing those precious moments.
Wow, similar things have happened to me, but the fact that this was a big Christmas surprise and you waited over what I imagine was your Christmas break for this moment just makes it even more rough.
Your Dad sounded like he saw a murder when you showed him that FIFA lol. Complete and utter shock.
Getting that game would be like a double gut punch to me. at least if it were ANYTHING else, I could actually play it.
The in unison "Oh my god" was magical
Crazy how your dad had an import hook-up back in the day. What an awesome and unique childhood.
my first thought when you opened the mail was like of all the games on the gamecube and you get FiFA, great video by the way👍👍
Some younger people don't realize how much of a hassle shipping and handling was back in the day.
My family wouldn't even have tried to return/refund it, I would've had to play soccer
Almost a little bit relevant to this but in 2001 as well. My father for Christmas ended up getting me SA2 for Dreamcast, but instead when I opened it I saw the back cover of marvel vs capcom 2. When I flipped it around there was sonic adventure 2 showing only the game itself inside a marvel vs capcom. Even though I thought they screwed over my dad from ordering this game, I was still able to play it Christmas Day despite of not getting the official physical box art. What a strange year for me and you when it came to SA2! Haha I love your stories and nostalgic clips of those awesome times.
That's cool how you have all those videos crazy how time flies
Hey Tyler, I love your videos and I have probably said it before but damn your dad would be so proud of you and this channel.
I'm gutted for you that he's no longer with you enjoying the new consoles and know he'd be making these videos with you if he was.
I'm so jealous of the endless footage you have of you with your family. I'm thankful I have memories of my grandparents but wish terribly my parents were more into having made videos when I was a kid.
Thank you for sharing your memories with us all as they truly trigger some of my own.
Thanks so much for this thoughtful comment! I was a lucky kid and I am today lucky to have all the memories. 🙂
amazing as usual plz continue , and can't wait to see the next retro video , thanks man
Talk about the ultimate game show moment. 😂 😂
Looking good bud, you definitely look a lot different now. I barely recognized it was you at first, however, I personally enjoy watching your older retro videos from the past. With that being said, love the content, thanks for sharing! 😊
Love your channel! It's a nice blast from the past.
Hey, many thanks!
This made my day
This was such a great episode! I love Sonic adventure 2, so many great memories blasting through with Sonic speed.
Its a touching experience to listen to stories like this one that predate my very life, especially now (December)
I love how your parents filled everything. What an amazing time capsule of memories mate. And OMG FIFA Soccer 😱
What a great story! Got a big kick out of this. Great throwback to my childhood too. This also inspired me to film my kids (when I have them haha). Thank you!
Love this channel. Ordering my blue retro life hoodie soon.❤
This is a really cool story thanks for sharing, your dad and grandparents seems awesome.
That “0h my god” from your dad at 5.58 made me laugh but fully justified
You did a great job holding back the frustration and disappointment, I remember one year I got a 360 and Santa forgot to get me any games it did coke with Moto gp so I could play that at least but at the moment it was tragic
These videos are so awesome. Can’t wait to make memories like yours with my two sons.
Don’t ever take for granted the time you share together! Make memories
Keep posting these retro kids I love ‘em
I wanted Sonic the Sledgehammer on Nintendo GameBox too.
Love your videos, please keep it going😊
I love your videos you have a great voice and i like how you narrate your life stories.
Love your videos!
Tyler, with all the import consoles, didn’t you face region locks & Japanese language issues? Unless you also eventually got the US versions? In any case, amazing how ahead of the times your Dad was. If CZcams was a thing, I can only imagine the pickup videos and game room tour. Legendary. 👍🏻
