    I think you shared some really great tips with all of these topics! I have for sure experienced overwhelm in all of these categories. I only read tarot when it feels right; right now a daily draw has been really helpful. But that could change in the future! I personally have an unhealthy relationship with having a large deck collection so I don’t have a lot of decks anymore. Letting go of everything that didn’t feel like me or my “should have” decks has released the overwhelm. Right now I’m happy using just 1-2 tarot decks and an oracle. Also, using decks that don’t follow a traditional RWS system has really shaken up my practice and has felt soooo right to where I’m at right now.
    In regards to content overwhelm, I have taken a massive step back from social media and other media consumption. I have greatly reduced the number of channels I watch and released that feeling of FOMO surrounding content. I don’t need to watch every single video that comes out the second it comes out. And now I am only subscribed to channels that inspire me to be a better person and a better reader. But also don’t trigger my shopping addiction. Learning to be discerning and doing what works for ME has made a massive impact in my happiness and my spiritual health.

    You've just validated that I made a good decision this month. Before lockdown I knew nothing about tarot or the moon or astrology and during that time I dove in all the way. I took HUNDREDS of pages of notes. I wrote down so much good advice and I wanted to take it all but it was so overwhelming that I ended up taking none of it. So the last couple of weeks I've set up a schedule for the next year. Starting each new moon I'm going to focus on integrating ONE piece of advice, use one deck, do one spell and correspond all of that to the sign of the new moon. Already I'm feeling less scattered and paralyzed.

    Bingo! And Sacred Sisterhood is one of my go to decks 😊😊 I started watching lots of walk throughs and unboxings and now have too many decks. So much money spent and some of these decks I never use as they don't resonate with me at all. I did rehome an oracle deck that didn't speak to me, and the friend I gave it to loves the deck. So that was the right thing to do. As a relative newbie (only reading for a year now), I got caught up thinking I needed a bunch of decks after overdosing on tarot videos and now realize I only use one at a time, no need to have so many There are 2 decks thatwere regrettable purchases, but not sure if I should hang onto them, or send them off to the Goodwill. PS - I listened while getting ready for the day. 😁😁👍🕯🔮🃏❤️❤️

    "It's ok to step away" - thank you! This is a really good piece of advice. Sometimes I wonder: "after all the time and money I have invested, is it ok to have a break of unknown duration?" and the answer of course is yes. Sometimes I also need a break from tarot content (these breaks do not necessarily happen at the same time). Anyway, fantastic video really, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!

    Your video echoes my thoughts, I've been feeling this way for such a long time, and it feels so easy to become a bit burned out, especially with tarot. There's only so much guidance we can ask for, and there's only so many decks we can have, and only so much content we consume.
    I did express, rather harshly, that I would like us as a community to be a bit more mindful, and I felt embarrassed that I had those thoughts, but it is overwhelming to live life like this.
    As always, thank you for your insightful videos :)

    Great video 👍🏻 ehh, Audio 😘
    I listened while cooking.
    Boredom and overwhelm are no topic for me so far. But I have to admit the content that is all available can be challenging sometimes.
    You tube is the only social media platform I use, that is very helpful, but still I have to structure a bit what I want to see in every case, or which video is a maybe if I have the time for it. I have the time for about 1 to 3 videos a day, that's it. But therefore I almost every time write a comment on these videos. That somehow feels right to me.
    Right now I am enjoying my practice very much even if there is only little time for it.

  • @whalesong813
    @whalesong813 Před 2 lety +7

    I like what you said about creating structure within a tarot practice and pre-selecting decks. Of course realizing you can change that up as desired. I like to journal with my tarot practice, I change that practice up by using a few books to give me ideas and /or specific journal prompts. I also put tarot decks away out of site to help with analysis paralysis lol (picking which deck to use). Also, related to tarot content, when I have feeling of deck overwhelm for varies reasons, I stay away from deck collection videos. I love seeing deck collections but I stay away at times when those videos seem to increase my feelings of deck overwhelm. Of course this comes with the disclaimer this is only what I feel not what anyone else should feel and/or do.

  • @Amalkavs
    @Amalkavs Před 2 lety +5

    That happened to me when I was deep into collecting decks, now I'm just very hard on what deck is coming home with me, I have had to let go tarot for a year to start again decluttering 90% of my decks, I think social media is a problem to me too because of the deck FOMO. Now I live a sustainable life style and I'm better than ever.

    As I always say when it comes to burnout of any kind - tarot, art, creativity, reading, etc. Trees sleep for half the year. Bears hibernate all winter long. Breaks are ok. We are humans and a part of nature as much as trees and bears. Take a break. Wake up fresh and new in the spring ready to bloom again. :)

    I love this type of content from you, where you sit and chat about what practice is actually like - its pleasures and pitfalls etc. I am definitely over watching all the unboxings. Thank you so much for this video. I appreciate the sense of balance this video provides. I think we can get a one-track mind about decks and deck FOMO. I also agree with you that I have decluttered decks impulsively and then ended up repurchasing later when my practice was drawn again to the themes of those decks. I am going to try storing and seasonally storing. I think understanding that I am drawn to certain decks in certain seasons has really helped me heal from the waste of impulsively decluttering.

    Goodness, I can relate to every category of overwhelm you've shared here, and your suggestions are brilliant. Adding structure to the practice definitely helps a great deal, and I feel like starting to do videos myself this year was my own way of trying to sort through what I have, spend more mindful time with it, and get organized in my head about what decks I use for what and when, etc. You're so right about the TarotTube element adding to it all, too, and I always feel bad if I unsubscribe or don't watch all videos, but I find myself wanting to nurture just the few core channels closest to my heart (like yours! ).

    Such a good topic to bring up and it sure can get overwhelming. I wish to have a daily practice, but I can't keep up with it and that is something I have settled with at this time. You can't do it all, consume all content and it's so calming to realize that it's better to narrow down to only the decks, content and practice that resonate with yourself. Many weeks I use my cards only 2-3 times a week and sometimes I don't do a reading for 1-2 months and it's okay. I allow myself not to touch my decks when I don't feel like it. One thing I will do is to declutter CZcams channels I follow and be mindful of which content creators I subscribe to so that was a good point I will take action on 👌

    It was so interesting to listen to this tonight. I thought I was the only one who would persistently splurge, purge and regret! I have re purchased decks so many times due to giving them away/gifting them or sending them back, and then weeks, months, or even years later I’ve been kicking myself for not having it anymore.
    But then on the other side of the coin, I’m someone who truly loves and appreciates loved/worn books and tarot decks and when I find something I love, I stick to it! So then so many go unused. I’m totally taking on board your tip for sorting decks into seasons. I love this idea 💡🤍

    I love this topic. I really needed it right now. I've been slowing down in my personal tarot practice, and this video helped me to clarify my feelings for it and not feel alone in it.
    Every time I use my copy of Dreams of Gaia in my daily personal practice I get disenchanted with tarot in general, probably because the cards do not follow the Rider-Waite-Smith system that I am most comfortable with.
    Right now I am trying to get back into it, and using one of my favorite decks which is The Green Witch Tarot. I also love using certain decks during certain seasons.

  • @AvoryFaucette
    @AvoryFaucette Před rokem +1

    Always find these practice videos fascinating! I've been noticing how my "overwhelm" is very related to autistic inertia, where it's like "here is the giant pile of DOING TAROT that exists in my mind, and so I just do nothing." I so find a structured practice helpful for this too, though, even when it's less I'm doing a ton of tarot chaotically and it's more "I'm literally doing no tarot because I can't find an entry point." I found your waterfall practice helpful for six months or so in 2020, then I fell off, then I came back probably six months ago now to a kind of similar concept but over time where I'm doing what I think of as overlapping or nested spreads monthly/weekly/daily. I still would really like to do reading that isn't so time-based, but like, that's what I can do right now, and that's okay!
    That said, I was feeling frustrated that this means I'm not using oracle, which I honestly like even MORE than tarot a lot of the time, and so I actually started trying something new yesterday, which is having a whole row of like six oracle decks on my coffee table, and then when I think of it, pulling a single card from each. Kinda similar to the way you do combined tarot/oracle readings, this is interesting because it's not just a daily draw from one deck but it's like "hmm, how will these decks converse?" It might fall off, as things do, but I'm looking forward to trying it, anyway! I've also considered doing some deck study, maybe getting one or two of the digital workbooks you're selling 🙂I don't really do like, big journeys around a particular life theme or whatever, so working with a deck instead of a "journey" might work well for me. I did used to enjoy the IG challenges, too, but that was more fun when actually on IG 😂
    I'd add that I've found it's really important for me to not feel like I have to be actively pulling cards to be a reader! I feel like I'm aaaaalways using the archetypes as reference in my life. I used to teach other things through them, and found that just wasn't working (for some reason found that tarot folks weren't really resonating with leaning other things, like healing from productivity culture as an example, through tarot archetypes, and then non-tarot people were intimidated by tarot being involved), but despite that just having them as ways of understanding the world, even if it's private, is really helpful. And I'm always thrilled to meet a friend who knows at least tarot basics because I can talk in this language, too! ❤

    I have a large tarot deck collection thinking I would use certain decks for specific situations. Yeah, no. I just see tarot as tarot and the deck doesn't matter to the situation in most cases for me so I had to think of something to do for when I can't figure out what I want to work with. I wrote all my decks, tarot and oracle, on separate index cards. I then shuffle the cards and choose a deck at random. It makes me use decks that might otherwise be neglected. If I choose an index card and think, "nah, not this one", then I consider why. Am I no longer connected to the deck? Or am I simply not feeling it at the moment.

I was doing the 12 month year or wheel spread and i felt overwelmed and a little stressed to try to focus on that energy for the month. So, this year I pick my monthly card the month before.
