In this episode we're covering the Hybrid Optic.
Variable zoom optics first appeared for the sniper rifles in the original Black Ops, and Modern Warfare 3 saw the introduction of dual-mode optics to cover the other weapons.
In real life, variable magnification gunsights do exist: perhaps the most similar to the Black Ops 2 rendition is Leupold's High Accuracy Multi-Range Riflescope.
This gunsight offers a magnified telescopic sight with a superposed non-magnified reflex sight, giving the user the ability to aim quickly at a wider set of ranges.
Some sight configurations use an optional magnifier capable of flipping into position in front of a holographic sight, and there exist telescopic scopes with multiple magnification options within a single integrated unit.
In-game, the Hybrid Optic is available for the Assault Rifles and LMGs only.
It is compatible with most other non-optical attachments, with the exception of Select Fire and the Grenade Launcher.
Perhaps the hybrid zoom level was intended to be switched with the same control as select fire or the launcher: and the incompatibility enforced to avoid a button mapping conflict.
The hybrid's effects are fairly basic: aim time, recoil and other handling traits are all unaffected.
Instead, you gain the benefit of two separate zoom levels, rapidly switchable whilst aimed in.
The low magnification is the same as the weapon's innate zoom of the iron sights: in the case of assault rifles, 1.35x; and LMGs, 1.5x.
The higher zoom is the same across the board, at 2.4x magnification - this is the same as the ACOG scope.
Both zoom levels have their own separate reticle, usually borrowed from the reflex and ACOG - although some are specific to the Hybrid Optic.
The default reticle set is unique, and a relatively plain orange set: the low zoom a basic dot, the high zoom a semi-enclosed one.
These are as precise as the offerings get, and are perfectly functional - any other selection would be an aesthetic choice.
Plus and Precision are unlocked with 10 kills with the Hybrid, both bright green and cruciform in nature.
They offer great target contrast, potentially adding to your accuracy.
25 kills unlocks the Dot and Ranger pairing: each with a hollow blue circle marking your aim, as with the reflex and ACOG variants.
50 kills nets the Target Range Drop pair, a set of orange dots circumscribed by circle - a simple variant to the default.
75 kills unlocks the Valley and Ranger Drop combination: each a simple red dot with adornment underneath, perhaps rivalling the default reticles for usability.
100 kills unlocks the Drop Shot and Trilux combo - both in bright yellow, with the former indicating your aim with a dot, and the latter with inverted obelisk.
125 kills with the hybrid unlocks the pointiest options with the Peak and Pyramid reticles - both illuminated in red and triangular in form, with the top indicating your point of aim.
Attaining these reticles will also expose the second tier of challenges - opening up some of the more novel choices.
The first such option is the rocking duet of Steve and Hall of Flame: two bright orange reticles that are far from precise, but are at least interesting.
This duo useful in cases where you moustache your opponent a question before you set them ablaze.
Next, show your opponent how you really feel with this pair of faces unlocked after 20 double kills - with either the Smile or grumpy Scarecrow indicating your mood.
Whether you choose to smile for the killcam or not is up to you - the alternate option a straw-stuffed grimace.
Win over your opponent's heart if not their mind with the Hearts reticle option, unlocked with 10 longshots - rounding out the final suit of the playing card theme seen across the varying optics.
In any case, with judicious use of this reticle you'll be sure to place your opponent under cardiac arrest.
Finally, two triple-themed reticles are your reward for 10 bloodthirsties with the Hybrid, with the three dots of the predator reticle and the three arches of the Treyarch logo.
Neither of these two options are particularly precise, but - as with quite a few of these reticle options - sometimes you have to favour style over substance.
The Hybrid Scope is perhaps the most versatile optical option in Black Ops 2, and can help enhance a weapon's ability across a wide range of encounters.
It's a great choice for weapons that are low recoil, but dependent on accuracy: the M27 perhaps the best fit.
The LMGs will also benefit - weapons such as the Mk 48 and LSAT are terribly effective at long range, but do require that you accurately direct your fire for maximum effect. - Hry
The PUNS!!!!
Master : what is your weakness
Me : PUNS!!!
puns...QUIPS...Jokes!!!!!
He has them!
This needs to be available on the peacekeeper.
Does he have a masters in Literature or something???
No, but he does have a degree in media development (or something like that).
@@josharpe5802 wait really? No wonder his script sounds like documentary.
@@cloudynguyen6527 Yeah. He mentioned it in one of his bonus vids.
Why do people not use this Optic at all? Got an enemy at long range that's hard to see from afar? Switch to the ACOG. Got a group of enemies trying to pound you with lead? Switch to the Reflex Sight for some close-range destruction!
Just use the irons and save yourself a point.
Charlie WithaQ It honestly depends on the weapon. Some weapons are quite inaccurate and could use an optic for adjustment. Others would be better off without it.
+James “GUNSLINGER” Blackburn I suppose. I like to practice using weapons without sights to get used to them and save myself the point unless they're awful or I need a niche sight (thermal or MMS).
Charlie WithaQ I use Thermal only for the LSAT really. It's good for an Overwatch class.
my point exactly
There is a small bug associated with the hybrid optic (as in you may never encounter it). If you ADS on a zoom setting and the host migration occurs while ADSing, both zoom settings will be the same. For ex. what happened to me: I was ADSing on the reflex zoom, then host migration occurred. When I tried to switch to the ACOG zoom, it was the same as the reflex.
I use the red dot for close ranges, and the acog sight for long ranges, thats why I love this attachment.
if you're running a burst weapon or the AN94/HAMR this is useful. it resets the burst delay, so you get the faster fire rate again
loving the puns you put up for the optical guides and the pun at the end
While I really like all your videos, I think I can honestly say that the pun barrage of the optical attachment videos have won me over for favorite videos on your channel.
Using LMGs with supressor and the hybrid optics, using the red dot as first choice, but then clicking L3 to kil enemies further away, brilliant attachment
Thanks for keeping this series going :)
i dont just watch for the gaming but also for the vocab and speech, great vid asusual
thx xboxahoy for your guides keep uploading
"Moustache you a question before you set them a blaze!" - Brilliant pun
Best episode yet
3:35 - funny that "Moustache you a question" could have also been "must ash" to reference the flame reticle
I feel like i was watching a sales pitch when he went over the reticles and when they are unlocked. Great video as usual lol!
It doesn't matter how familiar you are with the weapons and attachments - Stu's work is the best in the biz.
I luv ur videos. Keep up the amazing work!
Great vid once again xbox ahoy :)
AhoyXbox is his other channel that isn't quite a commentary channel but he will answer questions and talk for 15-30 minutes which might as well be commentary. Its always entertaining
This has been a clusterfuck of great puns Stu! Haha loved it! Did it take you long to think of these puns!!
I watch because I like his voice and these are the only professionally made, high quality videos in respect to the Call of Duty community, also I like the format of the videos. The only reason that people get frustrated at you is that some people just get way too into it and don't play it like it should be played; they get too infatuated with stats and K/D ratios to the point of monotony and obsession.
xboxahoy, why ahoy there mr. xbox. why are you and your vids SO awesome!! :]
awesome guy Ahoy!
M27, Hybrid sight, grip and sometimes FMJ in Hardcore Kill Confirmed is crazy lethal! I can down a whole team in seconds and it looks badass too!
The outro is just…👌🏼
A fun game to play is to close your eyes when he describes the reticles and picture what they would look like, then open your eyes and match it up.
God I love you Stu! So many puns in this one video!
Monetization smashed my labtop yoo xboxahoy
I guess you're right, in fsst-paced cod extra options don't always help
I havent seen half of the optics before, barely anyone uses this scope. Crazy
Ahoy is a greeting...not a uncommon word.
Woahh, Stu, I watched a video of you at CoD XP and you look NOTHING like I imagined. It's nice to have a face for the voice, even if I for some reason I always thought you'd look kind of like Ashens.
Am i the only one that thinks Xbox Ahoy has the best sound quality on his videos?
I was thinking something like that once. Negative attachments and perks which can grant more XP, depending on the severity. Carry less ammo, move slower, etc.
you can adjust the position of the dot to match your point of aim
The optic is interesting, but I don't use it that often. Great guid btw.
There's quite a bit more but I think that was enough. I wish they made the Hybrid Sight a lot more competative than what it was. The Hybrid Optic is an EXCELLENT improvement.
Dental puns were amazing!
Rather fond of the M8A1 in this guide, Stu!
works very good with the m27 and mtar
loving the faces references
Hi stu, you should make a black ops 2 tip video on how to stay alive, get gold guns, etc.
You lose the recoil reduction bonus that the ACOG gives you, but I'm inclined to agree with you on the reflex sight.
I've asked him a lot , thats a cool question
In my opinion this is the best optic and is better in some way compared to every other "normal" sight, so basically if you're going to use a optic use this.
All these videos make me wanna play black ops 2 so badly
Stu, Have you ever had White Castle before? What do you think? While we are on the subject, what is your favorite guilty pleasure fast food place?
I love the hybrid, such a good idea. Disappointed by the combinations of reticles though... the yellow dot-U thing is fine, but why no default red dot-red chevron?
Yes, I know. But it would stack on them except from fast mags. It wouldn't speed up your reload a lot, but by a couple miliseconds like 0.2.
Actually, he answers them on his second channel, Ahoy Xbox. :)
That was a good and original pun.
He answers questions on his second channel from whichever weapon he covers.
No, having the ACOG will also show consistancy. If you can't remember what set up your Hybrid Optic is on, aiming down the sights and figuring out you have the wrong zoom level on, etc. etc. That can screw you up in a firefight as you will have some focus on the incorrect zoom level and or trying to remember if you had the correct one on. There isn't a slight recoil reduction too. :/
All of this doesn't mean this sight is crap though, it's versatility for a 2 attachments in 1 is a badass idea
the only thing u didn't say how to switch
You switch with the knife button
joseph rogers you are an idiot
Damn Why you say this, it's the knife butten (when you aim)
+black panda The melee button is your key
+Damn ... really?
Hey Mr. Brown/Stu! Do you think that a shortened clip attachment would be a worthwhile one? For example, you have a 30 mag gun but it gets shortened to 20 with the benefits of more mobility, sprint time and maybe even a slightly faster reload? I think it could work for the people who thrive in speed at any cost.
Ahoy I don't remember you ever doing anything on your channel with another player. Something co-op or multiplayer. Is that something you would consider as a later option?
Amazing pun stu
dude your picture stares in to my soul
Nice vid stu but you should have tried to use some more guns because you used the m8a1 a lot
Also if have a an-94 and use the hybrid scope and switch between the both scopes rapidly it will shoot
Use on the AN-94 or HAMR and switch optics rapidly to maintain a high RoF
2:56 Jesus Christ, that flash.....
Stu! Im clearing all my classes. Ill leave it up to you, what weapons should i fill my slots with ( i have ten classes) pick ten weapons and ill follow their guides precisely.
I LOVE THE PUNS!
The only negative thing for me is the thickness around the reflex sight. It gets me killed sometimes when I was originally aiming for someone else and end up not seeing someone else because of the thing around the reflex sight.
It's more rounded than the MW2 red dot, although the red dot for the pistols are basically the same.
The song is Colossus.
Those were awesome puns there.
Mr. Xbox, I saw that you preorded CoD Ghosts. Does this mean you will make weapon guides for it too?
I love his voice and all of the work that he puts into these videos but you cannot deny that there is a tactical aspect to it. COD is too easy and i enjoy adding some strategic elements into each game. Hell, i even let my KD suffer when it comes to objective games because i really want to win. But people, even my friends get angry with me lol. I can't help myself, i just practice practice practice practice. You can't learn by just watching youtubers, you got to practice. I used to suck badly lol
can't wait till you do world at war guns
That's what I first thought, but then he made a second fire pun, and I figured it out.
Hey Stu, which Call of Duty attachment have you found to be the best based on general use and creativity from the developers?
i find it ironic that when the hybrid was first introduced in mw3 it was called the Hamr scope... now in Blops2 the Hamr has a glitch with the hybris sight
Hey Stu,
Do you ever play Hardcore modes and also what do you think of the Hardcore game mode variants in general?
Stu have you heard of the glitch with the hybrid sight that allowed guns like the HAMR to fire faster?
OMG, XboxAhoy, have you ever done a voice adding for Call of Duty Online? Earlier today I was watching a COD online trailer in China, I recognized your voice! Holy shit, no kidding man! It is you!
I like how the hybrid doesn't increase center speed, since it makes the acog still relavent. I do not like how you can't mix it with select fire...
Oh thanks. I really didn't understand why people asked so many questions and he never answered, it just seemed really weird
Hmmmm..... I wonder what attachment you'll be recommending for the M8A1 attachment guide :D
he does in the bonus episodes
It's just a reflex+acog which is a good thing
ACOG comes with a recoil and idle sway reduction.
XboxAhoy, don't you think the lower zoom optic from the Hybrid Optic looks like the Red dot sight from MW2? I find them very similar
yes he has the ghost camo!
If I'm not mistaking I think he was the one who was narrating the COD Online for the new maps like "Storm". I just saw this on the COD Online website and I cant even speak Japanese.
Well that pun was unexpected..
..I like that.
Predator sight is my favorite
Hey Stu, are you going to cover the DLC reticles for Black Ops 2?
Hey Stuart, if you have had time to finish Bioshock Infinite, did the ending catch you off guard?
Stu, It seemed to me that you enjoyed doing Behind The Lines videos.
Does the real life usage of weapons of war interest you more than their representation in CoD?
He is :P He's got the Ghosts camo! :)
World at War doesn't actually have many hackers these days, Treyarch are still releasing patches quite regularly. And it's hardly outdated, all CoD's since MW1 have been functionally the same, except for the addition of some customisation. I'd much rather play MW1 or WaW over the newer games.
I must ash you a question, Stu, out of all the Call of Dutys, which sight was your favourite?
Hey Stu, for Black Ops 2, Who is your favorite team? In my opinion, I like the ISA, or the Wolf logo team.
Thank you! :D
Stu, did you choose the hybrid optic for this week because it based on the HAMR Scope? :)
I should imagine you will be highly anticipating the forthcoming "The World's End" film, as it is rather drink orientated and is the final in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, the other two being hugely successful both here and abroad. So Stu, will you be seeing it, and are you a fan of the other 2 films?
Thanks
