Backyard Bluebirds with the OM System OM-1 Mkii and 100-400IS zoom

An eyes-on look at the OM-1Mkii and 100-400IS zoom in action with my family of Eastern Bluebirds in the backyard. Experimenting with birds in heavy cover and just enjoying birds in plain sight…with lots of info about how I work with the OM-1 Mkii.

Thanks Steve. I also have just started using the OM1 mll and will follow with interest your future videos. I enjoyed reading your bird book for the Sony RX10m4 and having just recently recommended that camera to a friend I also recommended your pdf book. I wondered if you ever did CZcams videos of the Sony ?

Thanks for all the tips Steve! I struggled for several years trying to find a good upgrade to my Panasonic FZ2500 and came very close to getting the Sony RX10m4 many times. After lots of reading and consideration, I have landed on the OM 1 Mark II. Without your help and a good friend that also purchased one, I would be lost!!! You have been a very big help and wanted to let you know how much it is appreciated! I only have the 75-300 lens (so far). I am strongly considering the 100-400. What benefit do you think that would make for me?

It depends on what you shoot. The 100-400 has an extra 200mm of reach, which can be useful with small birds or wildlife at a distance….and it has Image Stabilization with improves hand-held performance. It is also bigger and heavier, but still fairly easy to carry and use. I have not used the 75-300 for many years, and I think the current model is the ii and mine may have been the i…but I have been more impressed by the sharpness of the 100-400 than I was with the 75-300. At the same time, if you are happy with the 75-300, and don’t feel the need for extra reach, stick with what you have. :)
