What's your opinion of the gameplay in Second Son? What's your favorite power to use?
agree with you that neon was probably the best power. Video could have been better if you could make minions. I mean if you go with Nix's powers in 2 you get to make little crawler things so I was disappointed when we couldn't do something similar. Especially since Delson is Native they could have done video animals in place of spirits.
Also you're take on the reasoning about how the power switching in this game is worse then just using a menu like in infamous 2 is exactly how I felt the minute I found out you had to drain the other power sources to swap powers. Not to mention the limited number of abilities. Over all it was super disappointing. Every now and again I'll get PS Now (or whatever it's called now) for a little while to play the first two games again because they are just so good (despite some of their short comings)
Currently I have two fanfics for infamous that are crossovers, that's how much I want more of this IP. I seem to remember you wrote one for the beast ending with good karma if I'm not mistaken. I read a bit of it years ago but I lost interest in Fanfics for quite a long time. Anyway. One of my fics is crossed over with the SCP universe and the other is crossed over with Mass Effect. The first is called "Half as Long, Twice as Bright." It's not listed as a crossover, rather just in the SCP mythos on FF. I'm getting some writers block for that one but my ME one "The Hero of Torfan and The Demon of Empire City" has 8 chapters and has got a lot of attention. At the very least more then I thought it would.

I do like the gameplay in Second Son overall, but I agree that the game is pretty lacking on plenty of the cool stuff from before. I remember playing InFamous 1 for the first time and feeling just how more complete that game alone was than Second Son.
I think the reason Delsin requires absortion to switch his powers stems both from lack of training and the fact his powers are of parasitic nature, requiring subjugation to work, while Cole's are better for cooperation and individual work.
It's quite fascinating. It seems that while Cole's powers can be maximized through the use of good karma the most, Delsin's work the best under evil karma.
Smoke is very, very fun.
Neon can be fun, but not as much as smoke.
Video is at the same level as smoke.
Concrete is almost useless with good karma and lacks a karma strike.
Ranking:
1st: Smoke
2nd: Video
3rd: Neon
4th: Concrete
I like it a lot mainly for the traversal. Its so fluid and feels so cool traversing across buildings.
I think the combat is very solid and makes you feel like a god. With that being said I still prefer inFAMOUS 2 and maybe the first games combat as well to it.
My favourite power would have to be Smoke. Smoke > Video > Concrete > Neon imo.

Infamous definitely deserves a remake instead of The Last of Us
Just hope it's a good remake. The "RE" remakes, in my opinion, are only butchering the saga further.

I actually love your infamous critiques. When I first got a feel of the game in the months following it's release, much of what I felt during that playthrough is akin to what you talked about. It didn't ruin the franchise for me or anything, I don't think it was that dramatic. It's still a fun game, but it also missed a few marks. Loved the video overall and I'm glad to be seeing you cover infamous again!
I think it also helps that destroying cars might help you in getting further in evil karma.
Another thing that helps me immerse in the game is denial. I believe this game is a sequel to the Evil karma ending of the previous one.

At first I planned to deny the game's existance all together. But then I remembered that natural selection is meaningless without some infighting in the factions. Just two superpowers (I'm talking in species terms, as if they were two nations) ain't enough to shape the world properly.
In my opinion the first Infamous game is the best it shows a lot about Cole and who he is and it's very fun to see him grow over the story I love Infamous Second Son but you are right it really needs a remake to be honest it doesn't give off that same Infamous feeling
Also, I recently played the original two games. I LOVED them. I was neutral karma. I tried to explore both karmic sides as much as I could.
I ended both games, not as an Infamous, but an Outlaw. The perfect outcome for me. In the first game, I was an opressive ruler, using my good reputation to justify me arresting sick civilians under suspicions of them being brainwashed gang agents. In the second one, I was manipulative, more focused in getting an army of rebels (no, I didn't lie to the rebels), policemen and artificial conduits.
I originally did not plan in playing "Second Son". But with the East Coast destroyed and Cole and his army MIA, I realized I needed to create a rival for Cole in this battle for natural selection. So... Let's hope I'm not completely wasting my time. So far, I like the destroying cars part, might help me tarnish my karma (I started out good) and spread my message.
Overall, I liked the gameplay of second son and had fun with it. One thing about the gameplay I had a gripe with was that there wasn't much enemy variety. The only enemy was the D.U.P. And there wasn't much variety in the D.U.P types. Just guys with assault rifles, an A.P.C, attack choppers, and heavy concrete guys. The first had the reapers, dust men, and first sons. The second had the militia, vermaak 88, and the corrupted. They also had sub-bosses to provide some challenge to the player despite not being real bosses. They also had shotgun soldiers, rpg soldiers, snipers, mini gun soldiers, and they would even throw grenades. The D.U.P didn't have any of that and because of that, I thought fighting them got boring after a while. Some people might point out the drug dealers or the Akurans, but I don't count them because they had such miniscule roles in the story. What do you think, ziv?

It was definitely a step down, I felt like in the original series I could indulge in the hubris of someone who was as powerful as a god. In Second the combat didn’t leave a great impression on me
I've waited so long to see you cover infamous again! I'm really excited to watch this
One element of the game that is avoided basically entirely once you have access to neon, the climbing, is not only severely limited even compared to Infamous 1, but the mechanics of it interfere with the new control scheme, and I always found that very annoying. Since you no longer have to aim to shoot, the glide can no longer be on R1, so it's on X whenever you're not touching the ground, which means the climbing method from 1 and 2, tapping X in time with Cole's feet hitting the wall (or just spamming, they both work lol) to get bigger climbs no longer works at all, because mashing X just has Delsin (or Fetch) begin a glide. It's just another minor thing that takes away a level of player freedom that existed previously, and a depth to the mechanics, that while not incredibly deep before, had at least some nuance to it.
It's all completely irrelevant once you get neon, and I feel like the other dashes were all made with such massive verticality in mind (smoke even, with the vents) just to avoid the climbing system all together, which like you said, was almost certainly included just because it's part of the series identity, without actually allowing it to flourish at all.
I’ve never seen someone have a such similar opinions on the infamous series to me this analysis series changed the way I saw cole in my recent infamous 1/2 play through

Gosh the side by side between cole and delsins gameplay is night and day in the fun department coles is almost frantic and chaotic but when you do anything its incredibly powerful while delsins powers are just lack luster in comparison tho if i had to pic one from delsin itd be smoke

My main problem is how Second Son’s story isn’t as deep as the first two games. Even tho I like the good ending of Infamous 2, I would’ve loved playing an evil Cole in Infamous 3 or maybe play as a new character and see how much the world changed since Cole became the beast. I think this would’ve been a better version than what the creators did to Alex Mercer in Prototype 2.
The gameplay sounds like a pain in the ass if I have to find places where I can recharge my powers in order to switch them instead of switching powers with the d-pad.
Hey Zivalene, I started watching your inFAMOUS videos a couple years ago and this series has always been my favorite of yours. I can't stand Second Son for the fact that it was a disgrace to Cole's entire story in my opinion. I agree with pretty much everything you've said throughout the years about this game. But, I just wanted to stop down here and give you a sincere thank you for finishing this series, even it took 4-5 years to do so. It's good to hear your voice again after so long!

yes, infamous content is my jam, lets frikeng go- one hard and honest critique i have that i have noticed everyone pretends doesnt exist is the following:
-The underwhelming ammount of enemies in free roam, and a "wanted" system like GTA one of the games that inspired the franchise, making free roam pretty boring once you beat all side quests, i am comparing it to gta because i believe Nate Fox director of the first game said one of the main things behind infamous was he was playing gta and thought it would be cool if he had powers, but no game is great with a wide arsenal with 0 enemies to murder with, how can i enjoy my powers if i dont have enemies to shoot at that fight back
The funny thing is GTA with powers is basically Saints Row 4.

Welcome back(to making editted videos)!!! I was missing these videos. inFamous 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games of all time. I love how the side missions you did had an effect on the open world(like getting the trains to work in 1). I feel like Second Son was a bad omen for future sony titles. Sony exclusives have been priorititizing pretty graphics and cinematics too much since the PS4. The graphics are nice, but the stories feel like oscar bait and generic. It doesn't have the irrelevant feel that the first 2 inFAMOUS games had in terms of story. Even the gameplay of SS is completely watered-down compared to the first 2. I love Ghost of Tsushima(the only sony title I'd call a great game the past generation), but inFAMOUS deserves a much better send-off than an average game that feels like its missing its 2nd act.
Yeah, I hoped the power system was like InFamous 2 where you could just choose what power to use on the fly but no, having to look for different sources to switch was a pain. I usually only played Neon to cross the town quicly then switched to video once I reached a high enough building to fly. I hoped the video power would be more than just a gloryfied summoner. So yeah I just went zappy zappy with neon like you and didn't bother with the other ones :D
Enjoy these so much, glad I’m not the only one that felt let down by Second Son & how short it was, even compared to the original inFAMOUS which was WAY longer & deeper. Seeing people who say the original was the worst one & put Second Son in the middle of the first two when ranking them have me like 🤨

Truthfully I didnt realize how bad 2ndSun was until I replayed the 1st 3 but I do like it. Triangle does nothing and that is the biggest sin. They couldve made the power shift the dpad and concrete shouldve had curden kay missions. I know I misspelled a few things Im busy😂

It feels so much easier to justify hurting the mobs in this game, you know (still saving it for when I meet Fetch though) ? I mean, in the first two games, you could understand the hate, the paranoia and why those people were put in power...
But in this game... What's their excuse ? They let Augustine walk over them while preaching how powers are like drugs, putting more innocent Conduits down. I know I destroyed the East Coast, but you can't have Augustine running around if you want to use that card ! What, they're attacking the lesser Conduits because they can't reach Augustine ? Have they seen the organized crowd they join against civilian Conduits ?
In those terms, I'm grateful to the story. I want to know my true self in more day to day situations that don't have the "ends justify the means" scenario.
That said, I can still reduce myself to evil, right ?

Also, would you mind, when I write my own "Infamous" fanfic, that I used some of your characters ? Please ? I was especifically thinking of the cop, the young girl and the convict. Regarding the character with the mysterious surname... I'll see if I can think of something else (given my theories on his surname) but it might make sense to include him.
I am still up in the air on whether I will finish it or not, but I am trying by best to get back into the headspace required to get the last few chapters done.
As such, I would much prefer that you do not use my characters until it is complete and we are able to go into discussions about them. But I thank you very much for the interest and the support.

One thing worth noting is that paper trail and coles legacy are now available for all, i bought second son a few months ago and was able to play it after downloading it from the play store
Infamous needs a remake with an infamous 2 remaster. But other than that, I don’t see any point in a new infamous game unless Sucker Punch goes with the original plan to make infamous 3 with Cole as the Beast v

I recently realized one of my biggest problems with the game. The concrete power. Useless if You clear the map before getting it + recharging concrete only from DUP is a stupid idea. But the biggest problem is... You are so weak with concrete. I would call Delsin a secondary conduit. Less powers than primary (Augustine) and morepower than "forced conduit" (DUP people). With this, why is Delsin so weak? Yeah, he can shoot it, but that's it. The DUP agents can fly using conrete, jump using concrete, build walls of concrete. I think for a story built around a singular power, it is pretty useless. Rant over. Thank You for the video. Do You plan to do a replay of the first 2.5 games, if You have a better setup now?
You hit the nail on the head, my friend! I I have always viewed Delsin as this "middling" Conduit that can never truly reach his full potential. He is a Jack of All Trades, Master of None.
Thankfully my ability to replay the games has been restored thanks to the PS5, no amazing rig needed. I may replay them someday. :)

I do have to admit the way Delsin moves feels a bit too... jumpy and lose ? It doesn't feel natural. Cole's movements felt better and more natural.

Infamous 1 had the best story, but SS despite its flaws I still a significantly great game imo.
I do think you're extra harsh on this game for no real reason.
The combat mechanics in this game is amazing. Delsin is a breath of fresh air specially during the time where all main males where brooding Snake characters.
However the combat > traversal
